And Conor is the 2019 recipient of the TG4 Gradam Ceoil Young Musician of the Year. He will be performing live at the ceremony on 17th of Feuary 2019. We will be releasing an interview with Conor about his influences in music on this channel in the coming days. Tá sé iontach.
He is far from one of the best box players in Ireland. He's a nice player but he's not a special player. Conor knows how to promote himself and rub shoulders with big name players but as far as pure trad box playing goes he is nowhere near the level of Oliver Diviney, Ademar O'Connor, Nuala Hehir etc He is extremely overrated and quite boring and in a session you can barely hear him. He plays a lot with Liam O'Brien who is also an extremely boring, overrated concertina player.
i have just came across this man playing for the first time and right away i knew i was listening to something special his fingerwork is great and he is playing brilliant ill watch out for more of his music
@@hoWa3920 I just bought an accordion exactly like this one. It's dry tuned. I wish someone would tell me how this one is tuned. Iwould get mine tuned the same way.
very sophisticaded music ( on C#/D système i suppose) really great musician beetween tradition and modernity great work also about the choice of the instrument the 3 voices honner sound great with wooden harmony table and low basses thanks to TG4 fo sharing
Powerful stuff! I particularly like the first tune... additionally because my Mom's O'Dwyers (maiden name) were from Clare via Kilnamanagh ;-)! His style reminds me a bit of Tony MacMahon... also Richard Dwyer's... but a bit faster ;-)!
Interesting you mention Tony McMahon as Conor lists him as one of his influences in an interview on this channel, he’s definitely a rising star of Irish traditional music.
@@TradTG4 the fact that he plays with his eyes closed sometimes and gets lost in the emotion of the music - remind me heavily of Tony! I believe there are people who are excellent musicians and play great - but a chosen few - I don't know - they go to a different place while playing - like they are reaching back into the past. Love Tony's version of the Wounded Hussar - since many O'Dwyers served in foreign armies - has a certain meaning for me! Glad to see younger players that are up and coming! Thanks for the response! My mother has 2nd cousins in Ireland (that I discovered through DNA testing - I'll probably discover more since I've taken the ancestry DNA test and that can help link family trees and common ancestors etc)... I wish I grew up going to concerts etc, but I can't just walk to the corner and hear this stuff... so I really enjoy it when I find new music or new musicians! Still it wasn't long ago my ancestors were rebels... so I have some connection - emotionally (and DNA)! My Grandfather O'Dwyer's ancestors married with Scottish Highlanders from Ontario - MacDonald and MacAulays - Gallowglass and Highland/Hebrides Clans and fellow Jacobites! I don't care so much about the religious past - but I am mindful of it and want to remember the ancestors! Cheers!
It always amazes me how such incredible music can be made by someone pushing buttons on a box with bellows. Seeing the "innerds" in full view like this is rather distracting, even strange. I applaud Connor for his virtuosity and energy.
How could one get tired of this. Hard.
Conor is one of the finest box players love listing to his playing
Likes of Cooley and Mc Mahons music will live on....mighty playing
I was thinking the same exact thing.
Yup, Connor has that intangible quality that lifts him above the rest of the pack.
Great Music fair play ing
very happy to be having the very man over in Austria/Italy/Switzerland on my „22nd Guinness CELTIC SPRING”-tour in March
The best accordion playing I have heard for years, Sharon Shannon eat your heart out.
What a talent.........blew me away....

Ummmm, I'm sure Sharon and Conor are fans of each other's playing. They are not in a contest.
