This game does some very unique things I've never seen in a worker placement before. Can't wait for it to be available in my country.

Could have called it Dam the Mountain or Catastrophic Worker Drownings. In all seriousness, the idea of air ships for three "workers" of different sizes is intriguing.

Well I'm glad it's not a direct sequel, even though I love Whistle Stop - but this game sounds great! I can't wait to try it depending on when it gets a UK release.

Wow... I clicked on this thinking it was an expansion to Whistle Stop.
That might be a problem for them.
The game looks fun, but I worry about the main board with those raw edges. Besides looking cheap, they tend to show wear a lot faster than the regular boards that have the edges covered.
And no art on the back of the cards cards or tiles make it look like a prototype. Some interesting choices.

So 'little town' and 'whistle mountain' are 'worker placements building' games, where you construct, as you said, the places you put workers in.
I really like this concept. No other games do this?

Did you stop doing component drops? :D

Tom said in some video that after the component drop his kids always help him tidy the mess up. Now that another one of his daughters has left I guess he's loosing manpower. (womanpower?)

Is that a final copy of the game? The backs of those cards and tiles look unfinished.

Thanks for this - great review. I thought it looked quite good, so now it's firmly on The List!

well, i can't remember if little town was out before whistle mountain, but that ability to build the place where your worker goes, is typically what little town does, in a very, well, Little (and fast) boardgame.
Whistle looks like such a messy sandbox, messy but, i would say, funny !
I would defenatly like to try this one

There is an imperial sized reference pair next to the game. I love it

Can’t believe this is more expensive than praga caput regni. Looks like a prototype in comparison. Would buy it if it were $50 not $65 CAN.

I really can't understand the thinking in naming this Whistle Mountain. The only thing in common with Whistle Stop is one of the designers and the artist. There isn't even any whistles involved, the Whistle Stop name is a direct reference to trains and even the whistle on the cover is directly from trains, what that has to do with building dirigibles in a mountain I'll never know. Especially as they had an expansion for Whistle Stop called Whistle Stop Mountain or something. Really bizarre decision from Bezier. But, whatever, the game looks like it has fun aspects, but for me it falls into the "I'd love to play someone else's copy of it" category, I'm not a huge Tetris fan and the theme makes no sense whatsoever (why are the workers in a whirlpool? You only lose 5 points if they drown? Jeez that's harsh, games really don't care much for worker rights, I suppose). Thanks for the review, either way!

It’s brand/series recognition. If you like whistle stop and you see another game in the same style, same designers or whatever and a “whistle” to the title, you’re more likely to look at it. Oh, and the expansion was “Rocky Mountains expansion”. It’s all marketing. Gotta sell, sell, sell.

Have to agree, the name doesn’t seem to describe what this is about and I’m confused about what the rising whirlpool and airships and machines are supposed to mean , and what you’re trying to do thematically. Sounds like some fun mechanisms and would love to try it, but the disconnect prevents me from getting very excited about it.

Should've called it Whirlpool Mountain and used the same font.

It’s sped up, but it says, “I've been coming to this circle for about five years, and measuring it. The diameter and the circumference are constantly changing, but the radius stays the same. Which brings me to the number 5. There are five letters in the word Blaine. Now, if you mix up the letters in the word Blaine, mix 'em around, eventually, you'll come up with Nebali. Nebali. The name of a planet in a galaxy way, way, way... way far away. And another thing. Once you go into that circle, the weather never changes. It is always 67 degrees with a 40% chance of rain. ALWAYS!”.

I can’t wait for the third game with “whistle” in the title so they can call it “The Whistle Trilogy”.
Come on, we all know it’s coming. These companies are so predictable 🙄 Game looks great though!

it bothers me so much that when the blimp is out on the board, it's perpendicular to the mountains and bridge. that's not how blimps fly!

Has there ever been a spatial Worker Placement like this before?

    • @cassandracastro2759

Actually yes, a small Iello game called Tiny Town (not to be confused with Tiny Towns) that was a worker placement and tile placement. You could place your worker anywhere on the map grid, and you received the effects of all tiles adjacent to it, so the point of the game was to place the tiles on the board in a way you could get good benefits depending on the especific spot you put your worker. Nice little game.
