  • This week we revisit how to calibrate your oven. This is intended for the knob style stoves. In the video I explain how to test your oven for temperature correctness and how to fix it if you find it is either too hot or not hot enough. If you don't have a knob like this to adjust your oven temperature, you should consult your owner's manual or call a professional.
    I hope this helps and I hope you learned something!

    The temp has not been right in our oven from day one, had no idea it was that easy to adjust! We have to put a pumpkin cheesecake back in because it's undercooked, it's always been a guessing game with this oven! We're going to adjust it now before we get the rest of the baking underway. Thanks SO much!!!

    Thank you for this! My oven was off about 50 degrees, but I had no idea I could fix that on my own. I recalibrated it (it IS an older oven) per your instructions and now it's correct! Thank you!!

    HI Rick. I found you from Noreen's channel. But we just got a new stove and it's one of those digital ones with the double oven feature. Your video though working with the old style stove gives me the inspiration to find out how to calibrate my new oven or at least discover how accurate the temps are. My upper oven heats differently than the lower one. It's essential to know what it's doing so we can cook successfully. Thank for the inspiration.

    Here is another great tip! If you have an oven that has been made in the past 20 years that uses a digital display, the oven's calibration is almost always far more accurate than the than the oven thermometers that you can buy to check them with, and are equal to the ones techs carry. Moreover, they remain accurate over the life of the oven.

    I never had to add mass to my oven for calibrating it. My oven is smaller.

    Just had a new oven thermostat replaced by maintenance. It didn't seem to make a difference. Now I'm wondering if it's been a simple knob adjustment all this time. One thing though, I just called my local appliance store and a technician told me it's not necessary to have something inside while calibrating. Yet it gauges fine when empty but once a pan and food is added, that's when the temp fluctuated up to 50°. It would make sense a pan will add to the temp, no? You're never going to cook without cookware inside, so your way would make sense. I do not recommend the newer GE Hotpoint electric stoves 👎🏻I've had nothing but trouble inside and with the burners only 8 months after getting it.

    So my oven is off by about 30 degrees but I don’t have any calibration screws behind my dial etc, any recommendations? Thanks!

      @rickstipdiy  2 роки тому

      No, sorry. Other than to try to remember to adjust your temp setting 30 degrees hotter or cooler depending on which way it's off

    My stove has nothing on the knob itself but the shaft is hollow. I'm thinking this must be it, Thoughts? Oh it's a Kenmore C970-652933.

    You really should be showing the inside of the dial close up shot to make it more understandable for everyone

    • @rickstipdiy
      @rickstipdiy  6 років тому

      Not sure exactly what you mean since at the 3:04 mark we show a closeup of the back of the dial. After that it's just a matter of loosening the screws and turning the back of the knob one way or the other depending which way your oven is off.

    • @noreenskitchenchannel

      No this is for a conventional oven. Not a toaster oven. I don't think you can do this on a toaster oven

    How do you know you reference temperature gauge is correct ? ... hint most are not.
    Unless you are sure of the gauge calibration = for all you know - the over indicator is correct and your gauge is off.

    If you loosen the screws enough you don't have to force the turning with the screwdriver!
