When you get there, you see someone who is most likely wearing a lot of military or replica military gear handling something that very much looks like a real grenade. The call specified loud booming noises so you must therefore assume that it could very well be a real grenade. Heck. you might not even know about airsoft grenades at all so seeing what looks like a military grenade in the hands of someone that is dressed in a way that could (from a certain point of view) suggest domestic terrorism would be understandably alarming.
