Jamie figured out a way to take back Riverrun without spilling any blood. After talking with Blackfish and Edmure, he realized what his reputation was and what they truly thought of him, so he used it to his advantage.

My opinion on the Jaime/Edmure scene…in the beginning of the scene Jaime is reasoning with logic and being respectful. Then edmure goes off on his “how can you sleep at night” rant. So Jaime used that. He said this man thinks I’m a monster so I’m going to lean into that and be the monster he believes me to be. And ended up taking Riverrun with no bloodshed because of it. Just my opinion tho!! Love the reaction!!

I think Jaime planned to do that from the start. He wanted to take the castle quickly and without any harm coming to Brienne. He's well aware that everyone knows about him and Cersei, and what people think of him, so he just played the character Edmuire already thought he was.

The scene with Edmure and Jamie is great, while he’s telling him that on Cersei matters and he’d slaughter every Tully who ever lived, it plays the violin riff from the scene in 3x5 where Jamie tells Brienne about why he killed the mad king, which is Jamie’s “pain” theme, this is a villainous moment for him and the music shows it but the reuse of that music shows that once again this is also supposed to be a “painful” moment FOR him. “Tell me, if your precious Renly commanded you to kill your own Father, and stand by while thousands of men, women, and children burned alive would you have done it? Would you have kept your oath then?”
“You don’t matter to me lord edmure. Your child doesn’t matter to me, the people in the castle don’t matter to me, only Cersei.” This is Jamie deluding himself, or rather his hiding behind his “Kingslayer” persona, masking his heart in evil when that is NOT the truth. Jamie does care. That’s why he is even bothering and doesn’t want to attack the castle, but he can’t admit that to himself. Cersei is like a cancer to him.
Twisting his heart like a disease, but in reality it belongs to Brienne. “It’s yours. It will always be yours.” It ain’t just about that sword

For the steam room scene, I saw in extras the producers left a note with various GoT sigils for the public that the steam room was commandeered for shooting purposes. Basically, steam room closed, come back later. Another thing I read or saw was how producers wanted to use a farmer or property owners land to shoot a scene or two. He told the crew absolutely not, go film your game of porns somewhere else. There is also a hilarious interview with Maisie Williams and Thomas Wlaschiha who plays Jaqen. He speaks several languages, but often with those where English is not their first language he stumbles a little on the expressions. Thomas said Arya and Jaqen are friends with benefits. I am sure he meant a quid pro qua sort of thing, but Maisie heard that as any native English speaker would, started giggling, and said no no no.

I don't think Jaime had any intention of killing Edmuire's son. He wanted to take the castle without Brienne getting hurt, so he played up to his reputation, knowing what Edmuire alreadyy thought of him, and that Edmuire would take the threat seriously. That's pretty similar to the way book Jaime is at this point. Plus, the whole scene with Brienne was in there for a reason. She'd have died in the castle if Jaime hadn't forced a surrender.
It really seems to be what the writers are trying to suggest, without actually saying it. You can't have the dialogue explain everything to the audience or it sounds awful...like the scene between Littlefinger and Lysa Arryn, where she seems to be talking to the audience, filling them in on scenes that were never shot.

Jaime learned the art of saving lives from Tywin.....What's more noble about killing 10,000 in battle than 10 at dinner?
I think we all should be calling Jaime "The Lifesaver" instead of "Kingslayer" for the thousands of lives he saved in the past and hundreds of lives he saved during this episode....sorry Blackfish, but it could have have gone so much worse if Jaime did not show.

He wanted the seige to end without a battle, so she wouldn't be killed, so he used what Edmuire already believed about him, to make sure Edmuire played ball. I'm pretty sure that's what the writers wanted the viewer to take from it all.

I am really enjoying your videos! I especially like that you are the only reactor I have seen that says perhaps the plan was always to let Arya go home. After all, how could the guards have caught a person who could look like anyone at will to begin with, unless the plan was to get in contact with Arya and recruit her in the first place? Not only did he respect Arya for defeating the waif, but did you catch the slight smile as well? Anyway, both Jaime and Brienne said what they needed to (He's not my friend/I will slaughter...) to get what they needed. I don't think he really would have slaughtered everyone one... unless it was in fair combat. But recall why he is called King-slayer to begin with. Brienne was right... There is more honor in him than folks give him credit for. Also, twice Tyrion has tried to tell the jacka$$/honeycomb joke and twice he's failed.

Cersei is Jaime’s coke. They are in a very toxic and codependent relationship that is hard to break. But even so, Jaime does care for his honor and tries to uphold his promises as much as possible. He is sincere when he swears to Brienne to let the Tully army go to Winterfell if the Blackfish surrenders. It is what is so sad about the offscreen death of the Blackfish… when Jaime sends for him, his intention is clearly to dispatch him to Winterfell and grant him safe passage to the North. But it is too late. He simply lets Brienne go. He is sincere when he tells Edmure he would do anything for Cersei and does not care how much blood he has to spill to obtain Riverrun. He would do it if he had to. But he is bluffing too because he is confident he can convince Edmure to tag along if he is convincing enough. And Edmure does. Jaime at this stage is becoming very good and smart at war tactics, making optimal use of his resources and avoiding bloodshed. And oddly enough, he is his own man when it comes to protecting those he cares for, even against Cersei’s will: he freed Tyrion, he sent Brienne away when Cersei threatened her, he armed Brienne to find Sansa and Arya, whom Cersei wants dead. He is trying hard to be as good a knight as he can be.

Glad you caught all of this about Jamie. We get so lost in empathizing with his struggle of family, honor, duty, that we forget that yes, even while those things are valid to empathize with, he's still a dude that would push another kid out of a window today if it meant defending his family in his eyes. He reminds us of this regularly, but once we start the empathy arc we ignore it and start calling it a redemption arc instead. Jamie is more complicated than we knew in the first season or 2, but he's still the same guy, we just knowna bit more now.
You caught Jaquen's smile at the end...he always knew Arya would never stay as no one to Serve the faceless men (remember, he even said so a few episodes ago). He did this as a favor to her, and also she will still be serving the Many Faced god...just in a different capacity.
