OP Rajbhar made a startling statement yesterday. He said that the “Ability of leaders to transfer caste votes dented.” This new item was published in The Hindu on July 8, 2024.
Rajbhar went on to say that -
“Each caste group voted for their own candidate, irrespective of the party’s affiliation. The ability of leaders of all parties in U.P. even the BJP, hailing from a particular caste to shift votes of their social group has reduced considerably compared to the 2014 or 2017 assembly polls. As the Samajwadi Party (SP)-led INDIA alliance gave many tickets to Kurmi, Maurya, Kushwaha, and Shakya, the votes of these social groups shifted towards them in many seats. The shift was based on caste affiliations and was not towards the SP,”
Rajbhar himself remains an opportunist in the politics of Uttar Pradesh. His party the SBSP has 6 MLA’s and zero MPs. His own base of the Rajbhar community seems to be dwindling.
Mayawati and her Bahujan Samaj Party drew a blank in the recent Lok Sabha elections. However hard she tried to support the BJP, nothing much came out of it. Mayawati is now a spent force.
