I think it's worth noting that Mestis is only the second-highest hockey league in Finland. Before joining KHL, Jokerit played in the premiership league. The fans didn't really appreciate the team joining KHL as the only Finnish team. Also, currently Jokerit is unable to play home games in Helsinki because the city only has two arenas large enough for this. The team's former home arena is still under sanctioned Russian ownership and the other one is used by another team. Instead, they have to play in a much smaller arena outside of Helsinki. Hopefully we will soon see Jokerit in the premiership league and proper home arena again, where they belong. The team has suffered from terrible and greedy ownership for decades, people who would rather sell the team to Russian oligarchs than do what the fans want.
What comes to the arena at least the new law that would make it possible to do a compulsory purchase seems to be finally progressing. Ironically the driving force behind isn't hockey, it is that without the arena the whole Helsinki area lacks a large indoor arena for concerts and other events.

That, too, even though I'd say the biggest mistake Liiga did was discontinuing the relegation system after 2012-2013 and only returning it after a large demand from fans and players alike from 2024-2025 forward. And even then with questionable demands, such as a massive license fee demand of 4 million euros. Because of that Jokerit hasn't applied to Liiga and some teams, including Tappara, Ilves and TPS have been questioning if Liiga is working as a cartell. Some teams, such as Sport and SaiPa selling their players and giving up, even if they still could gain a playoff spot has been pathetic to watch. At least the latter deserves to be relegated with whatever is happening there right now, unless something drastic happens. It also affects teams in Mestis because their budgets are way less than Liiga-ones. Tbh, the entire system should be completely renovated.

I always thought it was weird there was a Finland based team in the KHL. Especially considering the 2 nations are traditional enemies.
