Holy crap those Pride fights are insane! I can't believe some of the blows that were deemed legal, like the full-on soccer kicks and stomps to the head of a downed opponent.

Most definitely ahead of his time back when he was in pride fc.
Shoguns a legend but looking back on fights like these we see the evolution of the sport like the first fight where shogun had an open guard 90% of the time and didn't get passed that wouldn't fly today or when his opponent landed in side control and just gave it up for half guard fighters today would capitalize on those big mistakes but people not knowing the ground game as much made it way more entertaining bc guys could just scramble up and keep going to war

Yall know they almost all were on roids. You dont have to be jacked either but also the head kicks on the ground should be legal it is a fight an it would help with people wanting to stay on the ground too . I've seen people on the bottom ko people while being side mounted. Also it eliminates alot of the no contests as a lot are from knees to a 1 finger downed opponent. It's apart of hand to hand combat in my honest opinion

He’s obviously in because of his MMA career not just his UFC run. Pride vs the UFC was an entire era that elevated the whole sport and industry and Shogun was Pride’s #1 LHW. He’s in as a pioneer.
