HEALTHY HABITS OF MIND

- This film shows how kindergarteners in Oxford Elementary School in Berkeley, San Francisco are introduced to mindfulness in school. They practice mindful listening, mindful eating, mindful movement and yoga. Mindfulness is a way of being and one of the benefits is that it teaches how to pay attention. As a kindergartener your attention is required in order to learn how to read and write - often in an environment with a lot of external stimuli. Starting early with practicing these healthy habits of mind is a very good idea. Like learning to play an instrument it is much easier early on in life than later on in life. Includes interviews with Neuroscientist Richard Davidson and Mindful Schools Program Director Megan Cowan. Mindful Schools offers courses for educators, psychologists, and parents to learn mindfulness and use it with children and adolescents. Learn more at www.mindfulschools.org.
Two Hands Touching is a wonderful mindfulness tool.
Thanks for your wonderful experience and inspiring. Now in Spain we are beginning with love.
Beautiful and inspiring
Nice video, but it understates how dramatic teaching mindfulness practices in the classroom can be. Teachers have found that once their students start practicing these techniques the entire atmosphere in the classroom can turn around. Also students, even very young students, have said that by practicing mindfulness they can now control their anger and feel more at peace with the world.
If only I had learned mindfulness techniques when I was a child . . .if only some of my teachers had . . .
it's good to see that it's working. greetings from Poland
Mindfulness is precisely about being still and calm. I'm a Taiji teacher and I work in adolescent mental health at a day treatment center /school. I'm tired of all theory and no practice in this field. If you teach mindfulness and are saying out loud that stillness and calm aren't part of it then you need to get your head out of numbers, which are bs, and theory and do the practical work
Beautiful!!
very interesting ; I wish they would try mindfulness in French preschools too....
Very inspiring!
Great job
Thing is kids are not really getting the message, I can tell. Theres an abismal communication gap.
