- This is a French built (i.e. Nord) version of the Messerschmitt Bf.108 liaison aircraft which was the direct predecessor of the more famous Bf.109 fighter of World War Two. This aircraft has starred in a number of movies, in the place of a 109.
The aircraft is shown here during its display at the Classic Fighters 2007 airshow held at Omaka Aerodrome, Blenheim, New Zealand.

Na, even as a kid I could tell the difference between a 108 and a 109
The Art yes it looks so different
They say in the video that it isn't a Bf 109 aswell as in the title
Was this the plane that Martin Caidin took to the US? Wasn't it also used in The Longest day, strafing the beach?
Both he, and my father bought a 108 each after the filming of either the War Lover, or 633 squadron. My fathers crashed in Greenland during the ferry to the US.
Pilot survived and was picked up 4 days later. Martins 108 made it, and he kept it in the german livery, flying around the states. Not sure what happened to it.
Good informative video. Thanks
“633 Squadron” the movie had BF-108s as stand-ins for what I believe to be FW-190s.
This is powered by a non-original Lycoming O-540 engine of 260 or 300 hp. I have seen it fly at airshows in South Africa before it was shipped to New Zealand.
This is no Renault engine, because Renaults were inline air-cooled with hanging cylinders just like the original Argus. This is most likely an american-built horizontally opposed Lycoming, Franklin or Continental.
it is indeed a lycoming 8 cylinder
Looks like a cross between a 109 and a Junkers transport plane.
Sorry this ahm... 108 in your video is the most bad example of a 108 i have ever seen. Yeah maybe its been redone to look like a 109 for movies. But it is also equipped with some kind of Boxer engine which is easy to see to the end. I hope they only did this because they coulndt get their hands onto a ARGUS As10. If they did this just to make the 108 look like a 109 (exhaust) it would be a Heartbreak.
I hope its OK to post a link to a video of an Original one.

Franz Stigler went to kanada in 1953. Later he bought a 108 and painted it like his old 109 to mime the bad guy in flightshows. So its not that bad, i think
I have seen one of these quite a few times in the UK, amazed me how quiet it was compared to other aircraft of that time frame
The Sound of Legends yea it's actually pretty quiet
Die Lautstärke war entscheidend -es war ein Flugzeug der Spezialkraefte um tief ins russische Hinterland einzudringen
Absolutely gorgeous
why would you paint it like a 109 ?
Because that's how it was painted when it starred in several Hollywood movies....
That's not a good reason to paint a "historical" aircraft like another.
@@clausejoke1985 Yes, it is when you consider part of the deal is the owner of the aircraft gets paid to do what the filmmakers want.
@@clausejoke1985 it’s a very good reason,

Ruins the historicity, so not a good reason for me since I actually care about historical aircraft and the 108 was even more ahead of it's time than the 109 so it doesn't need the mutilation.
Pretty Lady...!!!! :)
Interesting plane!
I haven't seen it anywhere else!
That looks like a pansy-ass hybrid version of the BF 109.
Hi,
Looks great but has some big opposed engine installed ! the original Argus inverted Ve8 aircooled is VERY hard to maintain...I wonder which Lycoming or Continental had to provide the drama here...?
Thanks for posting.
It bears no resemblance to a Bf 109 whatsoever.
Actually it does, obviously there is resemblance to it with the frame and design
From afar, in the heat of battle it's easy to be confused. US troops confused the P40 with the Zero so much so that they had to make a video to teach them how to tell the two apart!
Ladys and Gentlemen this Plane in the Video isn´t a Messerschmitt Me 108,
or a Messerschmitt Me 109. This Plane in the Film is a Replica from the famous Plane Messerschmitt Me 108.This Replicas Name is Nord, and was build in France.
And this Plane does not have the Original engine Argus As 10c, the plane has got a Renalt Engine.
Lycoming (US) engine with guns (movie props) added but it was built by the French in 1942 (Nord), shot down twice and captured in Belgium at the end of the war.
I got goosebumps listening to that engine... German technology at its best!
it has a lycoming engine
That awkward moment you realize you're hearing an American engine...
@@9.5to1 Thanks for the update! Lycoming it is! Still a great sounding engine!
@@TyCetto unfortunately not many ww2 era German aircraft engines have survived. The americans came and destroyed them and took all the highest nazis and installed them in the many highest positions of government. As there were puppets for the American deepstate the entire time. :)
this is also not a Zero...
