I'm glad I saw the movie without watching any trailer beforehand, and days are passing since I watched it and more things and connections comes to my mind and if at first I liked it but thought there were many things I didn't grasp, the more I think about it and the more I search the more I can have a clear picture of the dynamics in it.
The basic concept reminded me of Pasolini's Teorema (or Visitor Q by Takeshi Miike): a young man gets introduced to a family and somehow has the power to completely unsettle the balance of each member, both physical and psychological. There aren't other similarities that I can recall but that was the first impression in the first half of the movie

    • @stephennicholas1590
      @stephennicholas1590 3 роки тому +3

But all the style achieves is as shadows on the wall of Plato’s cave.
I think this is one of the most superficial displays of film-school flash ever made. It’s purpose is to make the viewer feel increasingly uneasy and then alarmed and finally terrified, but the story is without substance. What morsel of wisdom is to be found in this incredibly painful story? Of all the profound stories in the world that could be told on film...what is the point of this movie? I challenge anybody to offer an answer and nobody here seems to bother. Everybody is dazzled by the style, but there’s no more substance than being stabbed in a dark alley by a robber. There’s no transcendent statement. It’s sound and fury signifying nothing.

Yorgos movies dont have hidden meanings like Mother! etc. His movies are straight forward that create questions but arent needed to be answered. He doesnt even have answers, he just creates a cinematic experience thats intense, beuatiful, methodical, obscure , full of life and at the same time lifeless. For example all the characters of the sacred deer were so steep and monotonous but at the same time they were oozing emotion

this movie was so weird. not because of the story. frankly there are more bizarre stuff out there but the dialogue and the things such as Kim talking about her period and her dad talking about her period in a party and then all that talk about armpit hair. I struggled to find the relevance of all those weird talks.

this movie is a take upon a greek tragedy where a half god kills a sacred deer and the gods demand that he has to sacrifice one of his kids, that is where the name of the movie comes from. i did not like the movie, it is acting very hard to be artistic and at the same time creepy. i thought the story was weak, with pretty dull attempts to shock the audience through being vulgar and disgusting. i have watched way better psychological thrillers, the director is pretty full of himself and might be enjoyed by some easy to impress watchers, but i think he is very overrated. the cinematography of this movie is not bad, the soundtrack is dull and attention seeking, but weak, the story is very flat, predictable and vulgar. basically this is a movie that just tries to be as annoying as possible so people cant look away - likened to a car wreck when you pass it on the highway.

It was good but not anything too great. But interesting and held my attention. The ending was meh but I guess it was fitting for the plot

I just watched this film on TV and thought it was awful. The characters act like unemotional pod-people, the stilted, badly-written dialogue was exhausting and the lack of response by the parents to tragic events was in places comical. The style completely overwhelmed whatever story there was.

I found the stiff, monotonous acting quite distracting in this. I’m not sure that added anything to the story. Just had me wondering whether the whole family and the other kid were all on the autistic spectrum, as it couldn’t possibly be ‘just bad acting’ when I’ve already seen a few of them act in other films. If it was supposed to signify that they’re rational people, I feel like that would’ve came across regardless.

Yeah, I came looking for this video for this reason. I wanted to know why they had that monotonous acting and Colin Farrell just said that they were never told to do that they just did it for no specific reason? How odd

To me, the dialogue and delivery was very uncanny valley- Just a bit off from being typically human. That’s what made the film so unsettling. I could see other folks being turned off by it, but it’s what drew me in.

Check out his other films and you’ll start to understand why. It’s uncomfortable, comical, and puts the focus on what’s being said rather than how it’s being said.

pretty bland and overrated movie, the director seems to be very full of himself and this movie is a reflection of his own arrogance. the story with the greek tragedy translated into some glossy movie full of tastelessness might be enticing to some, but can't hide that their is a serious lack of intellect when it comes to the story. gore and mysticism replaces true suspense and a clever plot.

How can you have a story line ...Super heavy in these "non touchable type of themes" when you can't ask a simple ►WHY!!◄...90% of this is WTF and no reason for it!!!...and still knowing the Greek story part does not help in the least.
You have no reason why all of these ppl are doing this crazy crap...and not allowed to ask!!...
I thought it sucked and so did movie goers

Director doesn't make sense on one hand he says realism doesn't exist in cinema then in the other he doesn't want actors to show their intentions as he doesn't think that's realistic

most disgusting in this movie was the overly sexualized presentation of the young girl. really makes me question the directors character and intentions. if you want to watch a movie that is just made to put the viewer of with maximum disgust then go and watch Necromantic.
