Yes a really good exercise especially when done with a drone playing the fundamental. I prefer to work on intervals such as perfect 4ths, 5ths, 6ths and octaves with a drone. The other thing to remember is some notes on the instrument are always going to be slightly flat or sharp so these exercises are a great way for the individual to know where they might sit and adjust accordingly within ensemble or whatever playing situation they are in.
