USAG is *STILL* making money off them, that's the problem. Every time the U.S. win, every time Biles breaks a record or debuts a new skill, even every time they medal = money for USAG. They should have made arrangements to compete under a neutral flag at the Olympics this year and/or even throughout this quad. Because then there would be no contradictory conflict of interest.
It's not-so-much that alone. It's also because there athletes that are still representing the organisation that they are trying to bring down. Every time they win and/or medal, they're putting more money and resources into their opponents hands. What they should have done is compete under a neutral flag, like Russia at 2018 Winter Games. Then things could have been sorted out much sooner. But all they've done is spend all quad making life harder for themselves in the long-run.

To me, Simone (or any current elite gymnast) not declaring herself a survivor is the biggest sign that USA Gym is trying to cover up how bad it is
Juki Hiw this is an incorrect comment. Simone did admit it she’s been interviewed on TV and has even written about it. And she is definitely going to the Olympics. So you need to research what you type first. Just saying.
She does good job in speaking out about preventing sexual abuses. I hope she, her family, and other gymnasts are staying safe and healthy, from the coronavirus, as well as not geting majorly sexual abuse.
Women can still abuse women. There were people, parents in the room when Nassar abused. The only way we can end abuse is giving victims a voice and support, and silencing abusers.
If Nassar was a woman, he'd probably still be employed. If the argument of the victims is that they "didn't know they were being abused" when a male doctor used his bare hands to carry out highly inappropriate irrelevant _procedures,_ then a woman would have been even more blindly trusted.
All of this is so sad and breaks my heart. At the same time, I am a realist. Nothing can undo the damage or the sacrifice these gymnasts have made for the sake of the sport and representing our country. Also, nothing is really going to heal the wounds that have been created by the system that has failed them through the USA Gymnastics National Team. There is too much legalese involved to admit culpability on the part of the organization. At this point, the best we can do is to do better moving forward. The powers that be are too strong in the sports and entertainment sector for any real consequences for those who enabled the abuse.
USA Gymnastics and the USOC should write a handbook on “How Not to Handle a Scandal.” Pretty much every move they’ve made is the opposite of what they should have done. It’s the most atrocious decision making I’ve seen again and again for years. None of this has been about a sincere reckoning of the sport and bringing to account the people who looked the other way and facilitated people like Nassar to abuse children. This all has been an exercise in saving the organization. Aly is completely right: They’re trying to make this go away and hope that the girls can help them erase this from collective memory at the Olympics. For shame

150+ people spoke up. I’m sorry but I’m sure some of them jumped on the bandwagon. May not be popular opinion, but lying about something this serious is not ok. I do believe that the majority are survivors, but don’t just make lies to try and fit in
Why is she going so hard now that she’s won her medals and is past her gymnastics career? Nassar deserves to die in prison. It just angers me as well that so many of these women put their careers before their integrity and didn’t stand up. Every one of them could have saved themselves and others from that trauma. At what point do you say ok, this industry is abusive and I won’t comply anymore? Don’t reach out to people within, reach out to law enforcement. File charges. This is exactly how Weinstein got away with it for so long...women were willing to sacrifice themselves for their careers. They complained, but wouldn’t take it further than inner circles who were in on the crimes. I don’t see heroes in these masses, I see women who held movie roles or gold medals at a higher value than they held themselves.
Hilary Garstang this is laughable. They were kids who were told Nassar was helping them, how could they have known that a doctor, who everyone in the gymnastics community was telling them to go to, was in fact abusing them? They were kids whose only fault was to trust the adults. Kids who were following instructions from adults. It’s insulting to say that kids were putting up with sexual abuse because of the money at the end of the road. Awful. If you had read the full stories posted in the media, you would know most of the athletes abused only knew they were taken advantage of because of the first survivor that spoke up. Aly and some other athletes had reported that they felt uncomfortable, but did not know at the time what Nassar was doing. What a way to dismiss sexual abuse without taking the time to research the story.
Ana Sollano In the cases I read, their parents were in the room with them. I do not blame the children. I blame the parents for not paying attention, and I blame them for giving the benefit of any doubt to the doctor and the establishment. This is not a handful of cases, this is hundreds. It is a system of abuse. It could not happen without a series of people, including victims and parents, choosing to stay silent in exchange for the promise of success. When do people put their safety and sanity ahead of accomplishment? That is part of the problem. As long as predators have people to feed off of, they will continue. I believe many parents turned a blind eye to things in order to keep their child in the running for medals. Nassar is an absolute monster...everyone knew that, but no one spoke up.
Hilary Garstang Hilary Garstang Now you’ve changed your point to the parents. I agree that they bear some responsibility for not being vigilant enough with their children’s safety, they should’ve been more careful and critical of the system. But that was absolutely not the point you were making previously. You said the victims were the ones who had to save themselves and others from abuse but didn’t because they were more preoccupied with being successful, which is a terrible statement to make. They were kids who didn’t know that what they were going through was wrong. They were told Nassar was THE doctor to go to. They weren’t thinking about medals, they were thinking about getting rid of the pain in their bodies, and the adults told them the best way to do that was go to Nassar.
Ana Sollano Agreed. I am referring to the victims who are now adults, who knew they were assaulted, but left the industry without standing up. That could’ve saved at least half of the children, if not more.
Did u actually watch the docs or read the articles on this before making this statement? Plus being the USA gymnastics team doctor gave him access the these girls bodies, there is an initial trust 🤦🏾♀️ who cared to keep these CHILDREN safe?
She was wronged. She spoke up, they made changes. Person responsible went to jail. Now with every change they make it’s not good enough for her. Perhaps they should just disband USA Gymnastics.
Alexander The Great many people lost their jobs, that’s accountability. They lost them because they didn’t see the flags, but commuted no crime. Alt even got the newly elected official fired after the scandal because they weren’t good enough either. There is no one else at USA Gymnastics that was involved.
@@REE_III They want to ensure that this can never happen to any gymnasts ever again. Just because people lost their jobs or stepped down doesn't mean USA Gymnastics has done all they can to prevent new bad actors from taking advantage of gymnasts in the future.
I am sorry, I disagree that its the USOC's job to protect them. Many individuals failed these young girls. The disgusting inhumane Dr Nasser who abused the victims obviously failed in that responsibility. It's unusual bcuz it's one of the few Olympic sports were "children" compete. I really do not understand what the "cause" or desire of the victims now. He was convicted and is in prison. The USA Gymnastics President resigned. Subsequent choices they were not happy with, resigned. The coaches were fired as they should be for ignoring complaints. Did the parents ignore complaints too?
If it's not the USOC and USAG's job to keep them safe, then why do they have safeguarding procedures in place? It was against BOTH organizations' safety guidelines to allow adults (including doctors) to be alone with any athlete, yet this was repeatedly ignored to allow Nassar to sexually assault these gymnasts over and over, including at the Karolyi ranch and in the Olympic village. A USOC whistleblower even complained about Nassar being allowed to do this years before he was fired, and nobody put a stop to it. Go ask any pre-law student and see if they failed their legal obligations.
What has that got to do with the sexual abuse going on? These athletes wear leotards to train and compete and a lot were CHILDREN when they were abused, any child who is being sexualised no matter what they’re wearing is absolutely disgusting.
@@akwardturtle97 And then there is reality. Why do you think so many men watch women's volleyball? As children, I see no reason why the outfits need to be so revealing. People were outraged at Shakira and Jaylo at the Superbowl, grown women who covered more than these young girls. It's not necessary. Why don't men wear revealing uniforms in their sports? medium.com/@eylanezekiel/leotards-are-a-feminist-issue-6d1cc6f9b785 abcnews.go.com/Sports/China/story?id=5589206&page=1 www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2180189/They-just-getting-skimpier-Photos-Olympic-gymnasts-years-leotards-changed.html
SuperKaayla do you see the kind of skills they perform? They need to be able to move enough to do all their skills? I’m not going to sit here and try and convince you’re wrong because the more you reply the more obvious it is. These athletes are world class sportswomen so the conversation should be about how impressive they are whilst competing in their sport, not what they are wearing. If you’re looking at a CHILD and saying that something they’re wearing which is standard issue and enables them to compete to their fullest potential in the sport they train so hard in is INNAPROPRIATE when nothing is showing then the problem here is not them, it’s you. Way to carry on the toxic victim blaming culture that helps to enable abusers by keeping their victims quiet through feeling ashamed.
@@akwardturtle97 Do you see the skills that circus acrobats perform? Because those skills are the biggest in the business and they do so in unitards. Do you see the skills that men perform? Because although they're also wearing leotards, even if their bottom halves weren't covered by shorts and/or gym-stirrups you would see that their leotards are not even legless. But most of all there is your comment "any child who is being sexualised no matter what they’re wearing is absolutely disgusting" which completely ignores the fact that children both can and are consciously sexualised by the attire they are made to wear by the adults in their lives. Hence why TV shows such as the infamous 'Dance Moms' has come under scrutiny for years. The FIG actually has rules about how leotards should be cut and in other disciplines (eg Aerobic gymnastics) this is very much so enforced. However, in this discipline not only are these rules outwardly violated by some of it's biggest federations, but also some of it's most prominent manufacturers. Look at U.S. leotards of the 1984 Olympic Team in comparison to those of today. So no, it has nothing to do with athleticism, it is to do with see how far the boundaries of sexualising athletes can be pushed. Look at U.S. leotards from the 1984 Olympic Team Competition or the Romanian Team's from 1987 in comparison to those of today. So again in conclusion, athleticism has nothing to do with it, because as illustrated above athletes both male and female from far more dynamic and acrobatically demanding disciplines do not compete in such inappropriately cut attire.

Welcome to the Catholi....USA gymnastics org.
The olympics is cancelled...cuz corona..
She was wronged. She spoke up, they made changes. Person responsible went to jail. Now with every change they make it’s not good enough for her. Perhaps they should just disband USA Gymnastics.
1 person went to jail. many others ignored red flags and need to be held to account as well. think she is asking for full transparency.
Alexander The Great many people lost their jobs, that’s accountability. They lost them because they didn’t see the flags, but commuted no crime. Alt even got the newly elected official fired after the scandal because they weren’t good enough either. There is no one else at USA Gymnastics that was involved.
I agree 100%...not sure what else is wanted.
@@REE_III They want to ensure that this can never happen to any gymnasts ever again. Just because people lost their jobs or stepped down doesn't mean USA Gymnastics has done all they can to prevent new bad actors from taking advantage of gymnasts in the future.
@@elizabeth8720 Its everyone who must be vigilant..parents included to ensure it doesn't happen again.

She's pretty
so if you dont know why theres a cover up then this isnt true and you wasted this interviewers time
I am sorry, I disagree that its the USOC's job to protect them.
Go ask any pre-law student and see if they failed their legal obligations.
nbc is anti-muslim.
How
I would like to see these girls wear outfits that cover more, like some of their European counterparts do.
What has that got to do with the sexual abuse going on? These athletes wear leotards to train and compete and a lot were CHILDREN when they were abused, any child who is being sexualised no matter what they’re wearing is absolutely disgusting.
🤦🏾♀️
@@akwardturtle97
And then there is reality.

No women never abused me
I was abused by a woman & three Nassar victims are themselves abusers.
@@VinnyS9143101982 Which Nassar victims are abusers? Only asking because I didn't realise that was the case

She NEED to stop!!! 😒👎
She is running out of money

No, if Aly was out of money she would have just taken the hush money that gymnastics USA is trying to hand out. Her family is wealthy, being an Olympian means she has had plenty of sponsors. She isn’t doing this for the money!
