This is the year my mother passed away and it is such a beautiful song and always reminds me of her and brings tears to my eyes just listening. I miss her so much she was not the best mother. But she was my mother and I loved her so much.
The love that one has for their mother is unlike any other. Mom's are special and our love for them is also, rightfully so. Cherish the fond memories.....alwzys.
This song, wrapped up in velvet and tied with a beautiful bow, also reminds me of my mother as well. None of us come with a warning label stating that our time on this earth is a limited one. My Mother, Father, and little Brother never leave my thoughts, and never will, until I draw MY last breath.
Every year TCM does a masterful job of its in memoriam tribute but this year's is by far the best. The dissolve of James Arness and Peter Falk's vocal interjection struck a chord in me.
I lost one of my best friends today and could only be reminded of this video. Life is short let's try to remember that and take care of each other always and never sweat the unimportant things in life
Seeing this just breaks my heart... especially when they get to Edward Hardwicke. Dear god, it's like they chose the one clip that was guaranteed to tear my soul into little pieces... Kenneth Mars, Elisabeth Taylor, John Neville, Peter Falk, Edward Hardwicke... all of you, you will all be missed greatly.
As others have mentioned, TCM does such a memorable job of assembling these tributes. They let the camera linger just long enough before moving on to the next subject and they do an amazing job of shooting and editing the transitions between sections, not to mention choosing clips which work with the music beautifully and with each other. Bravo, TCM - and thank you.
Started to tear up when I saw James Arness. Couldn't help it. Rest In Peace. They're all in Heaven now. Playing cards with James Byron Dean and MLK, JFK, and "THE DUKE".
Every time I watch one of these videos, I just think 'who next year?'. So many greats this year, as there seem to be every year. Surely we can't afford to lose any more!
Such a great tribute. Save the best for last, naturally. R.I.P. Liz and everyone else too. A little late to note, though, Perdro Armendáriz, Jr. Has just passed on and should have gotten mention too, IMO.
stacia99, Just wanted you to know we're still watching this video after all these years. I remember the first time I heard it when it was first played in 2011 and being shocked at some of those who had died during that year. Thank you for leaving this up for us to continue watching often. :0) Donna B.
As others have said, TCM always has the best yearly tributes that the Academy could learn from...I know many of my movies, but I had to look up some of the actors who are paid tribute to here.
I caught this on TCM for the first time this morning, and IMMEDIATELY had to find it! I mainly listen to Metal or Classical music (though I detest both of those terms), but I love old movies as well. This song is amazing! I have to agree with chadvonswan: the song coupled with the images is incredibly moving.
:( Harry Morgan's dead? just last week, my younger brother was watching a rerun of MASH and Harry Morgan came on the screen and i remember saying "it's hard to believe Harry Morgan's still around"...i mean, he was on the show during the last few seasons and into the 1980's and he did look like he was 80 years old even back then...R.I.P.
TCM always shows the greatest respect for movies and actors...even more when it comes to their yearly "Remembers" segments...it's just a shame that it seems every year the list of performers and directors gets longer and longer...
Thank ypu so much for posting this! Saw it on TMC last year and had no clue some of these folks like edith fellows and barbara kent had passed as the mefia doesnt give many of the deaths tcm mentions acknowledgement and the oscars dont even nod the obvious half the time much less the stars who built the movies
While it's sad that these people are gone, at least most of them lived to advanced ages, including two who lived past 100, according to Wikipedia. God bless and Merry Christmas!
This and the 2003 TCM remembers are my favorite. I just saw the 2012 one, not as good as last years but it will still beat out whatever the oscars give us. I also didn't know that Ann Rutherford died =( I loved her so much.
I can always rely on TCM doing the best remberance... it inspires to look up actors/actresses that I have never heard of. Sadly the Oscars will never learn & use this....they might have to get rid a couple of jokes for the host or drop a dance number.
The movies today are nice, but I always wonder - Where did the classic magic go? The actors & actresses where so good back then. *sigh* Well made tribute ;)
Hauntingly beautiful and strangely misogynistic, OK Sweetheart delivers that sad lament that one day, we will be on the moniker as the dearly departed. Ho-hum!
As usual TCM does the classiest tribute films around....(BAFTA's are probably the next best, along with SAG. ) I loved the clip of Harry Morgan, the beautiful shot of Susanah York, and the shot of Diana Cliento in The Wicker Man.
I love the soundtrack they used for this remembrance, very classy and moving and everyone is right much better than the Oscar tributes. Hollywood is not what it used to be.
@XXXTheRappaXXX Tura Satana, Yvette Vickers, Norma Eberhardt to name a few. I absolutely love how TCM places them in the breathe as the Hollywood A-Listers. Beautiful!
I may not have known the names, but I knew many of the faces. I didn't know David Nelson died earlier this year. I agree with everyone. TCM's rememberance is far superior to the Academy Awards (and all other award shows if you ask me). They don't look down on someone because they weren't well known or known for movies. I do believe that was the Academy's reasoning for not including Farrah.
Seems to me there shouldn't be too many today's actors on these tributes! They should get their awards when deserved, but the Golden Age of movie making is over. Years of great writing, n acting is just gone for the most part. They're relying on special effects, sex, n substandard remakes out there in Hollywood now!
That's a clip of Renato Salvatori and Annie Girardot from 'Rocco and His Brothers,' serving as a callback to Girardot's earlier appearance in the tribute and placed here to make it appear as though Cliff Robertson is the one walking into her arms. Just a bit of artistic license.
Good tribute, but I wish they had remembered to include Elisabeth Sladen. She made an indelible mark on TV history as Sarah Jane Smith on "Doctor Who".
TCM should do an entire show on the Icon Elizabeth Taylor Oh how she thrived, giving to Aids research so the weak can survive only to become true survivers, God met one of his angels RIP Mrs.Taylor 😇
Well just saw the 2012 TCM Remembers...it's decent. Didn't know the big guy from the "Green Mile" died but what happened to Sherman Helmsley? 2002 (Bob Hope) and 2012 are the reigning champs though.
This is the year my mother passed away and it is such a beautiful song and always reminds me of her and brings tears to my eyes just listening. I miss her so much she was not the best mother. But she was my mother and I loved her so much.
Your making me cry

Hey thanks for posting this. My mother also passed away in 2011. RIP MOM.
Barbara Kent who appears here was the last living great silent actress. A beautiful video, may they all rest in peace.
TCM deserves an Oscar for such a beautiful tribute. The song is haunting and together with the images of the stars makes me cry. Well done TCM!
Every year TCM does a masterful job of its in memoriam tribute but this year's is by far the best. The dissolve of James Arness and Peter Falk's vocal interjection struck a chord in me.
We grew up with Matt Dillon.
I started crying like a newborn baby when Peter Falk said "as you wish"...
They couldn't have chosen a better clip for him (maybe one from Columbo) but this was much more poignant.
I lost one of my best friends today and could only be reminded of this video. Life is short let's try to remember that and take care of each other always and never sweat the unimportant things in life

Goose bumps when Peter Falk says "as you wish"
As others have mentioned, TCM does such a memorable job of assembling these tributes. I cried so hard when they showed Peter Falk
I still get so choked up every time I hear/see this. I would have hoped to become stronger by now so I can listen to it without crying.
So in love with TCM. they remind me (everyday) why we're here. or why we're all still way, way over there
Started to tear up when I saw James Arness. Couldn't help it. Rest In Peace. They're all in Heaven now. Playing cards with James Byron Dean and MLK, JFK, and "THE DUKE".

been seeing this on TCM all month. LOVE LOVE LOVE the song. so haunting and beautiful. brilliant choice.
Such a great tribute. Save the best for last, naturally. R.I.P. Liz and everyone else too. A little late to note, though, Perdro Armendáriz, Jr. Has just passed on and should have gotten mention too, IMO.
This song & montage to the dearly departed reminds me of the Billie Holiday song Gloomy Sunday!!
I'm glad that they show silent movie stars. As a fan of those movies, I can say they were just as important as the talkin color ones. Anne O.
Beautiful done, TCM.
@xxxWarriorGoddessxxx You hit the nail on the head! Wasn't this a beautiful tribute.
Every one of these TCM remembers is a perfect example of film editing

Saw a few of these actors on the street or at ball games while living in Southern Cal. Surreal to see them on TCM all these years later.
Beautifully done TCM. I thought for a second that you guys forgot Elizabeth Taylor. How could anyone forget Elizabeth Taylor.
Another very awesome job by TCM! Stylish, melancholy mood music, overall class.
Beautiful tribute as always from TCM; nice little "gotcha!" at 4:38, though!
TCM always shows the greatest respect for movies and actors...even more when it comes to their yearly "Remembers" segments...it's just a shame that it seems every year the list of performers and directors gets longer and longer...

Haunting.
TCM and SAG brings the best of tributes. It is sad the Academy had not learned it yet.
These are put together really well, very touching, love the song..😢😙
While it's sad that these people are gone, at least most of them lived to advanced ages, including two who lived past 100, according to Wikipedia. God bless and Merry Christmas!

This was like the beginning of the great TCM remembers phase. But this was one of the best.
1:07- Geez, William Campbell was so handsome. RIP Bill.
I can always rely on TCM doing the best remberance... it inspires to look up actors/actresses that I have never heard of. Sadly the Oscars will never learn & use this....they might have to get rid a couple of jokes for the host or drop a dance number.

Well made tribute ;)
@nathendricks I'm not sure but this could be from the Brian DePalma movie Obsession starring Cliff Robertson and Genevieve Bujold
Beautifully done.
Elizabeth Taylor, farewell gracious lady....
I never was Elizabeth Taylor's biggest fan, but when I first saw this back in '11 I choked up a little.
@Puffybelle The song is "Before You Go" by OK Sweetheart.
Hauntingly beautiful and strangely misogynistic, OK Sweetheart delivers that sad lament that one day, we will be on the moniker as the dearly departed. Ho-hum!
As usual TCM does the classiest tribute films around....(BAFTA's are probably the next best, along with SAG. ) I loved the clip of Harry Morgan, the beautiful shot of Susanah York, and the shot of Diana Cliento in The Wicker Man.

beautiful complilation. gj tcm!
Very touching!
@BillBixby..how true!! The young people today seem to forget that they will age as well. You are the only one who speaks the way we think.
I did not know M. Sarrazin passed..loved him..may they all RIP
I wanted to cry when they showed Jane Russell
I may not have known the names, but I knew many of the faces. I didn't know David Nelson died earlier this year. I agree with everyone. Loved Cliff Robertson I Charlie! RIP
He was in another movie, "JW Coop," poignant movie about struggling being great one minute and dragged off to the corner and left the next.
@Tim1965 You're right. There might be a technical issue, as the file I uploaded was complete when I tested it last week. I'll check into it tonight.
Elaine Stewart was a card dealer for CBS-TV's game show GAMBIT.
Michael Gough............ ALFRED, I LOVE U!
@AnaisAndAbsinthe don't fell alone, it always make me cry too.
thanks
I think the TCM should do the In Memoriam segment for the Oscars
No listing for David Hess (orig Last House on the Left)....who else did they miss?
Icons 🔥
I think we need to thank Mr. John Scott McGee for this masterpiece....
Seems to me there shouldn't be too many today's actors on these tributes! They should get their awards when deserved, but the Golden Age of movie making is over. Years of great writing, n acting is just gone for the most part. They're relying on special effects, sex, n substandard remakes out there in Hollywood now!
bad song to listen to on a sad day.
(AWESOME song and TCM vid)
Love you, Mike! Let's .......
In the Cliff Robertson segment, what film is featured at 3:13? Is it Obsession?
That's a clip of Renato Salvatori and Annie Girardot from 'Rocco and His Brothers,' serving as a callback to Girardot's earlier appearance in the tribute and placed here to make it appear as though Cliff Robertson is the one walking into her arms. Just a bit of artistic license.
@AnaisAndAbsinthe don't feel alone, makes me cry too.
Good tribute, but I wish they had remembered to include Elisabeth Sladen. She made an indelible mark on TV history as Sarah Jane Smith on "Doctor Who".
Columbo
Col. Potter
Uncle Leo
Marshall Dillon
Mr Kobayashi
One of The Good Ole Boys 😪
@kasiiiable He died in September of 2010; he's in last year's montage.
@Puffybelle its before you go
TCM should do an entire show on the Icon Elizabeth Taylor Oh how she thrived, giving to Aids research so the weak can survive only to become true survivers, God met one of his angels RIP Mrs.Taylor 😇
LOL
Came back from the grave ?
When does the 2012 song come out. Be interesting to see them try to top this...though the year Bob Hope died was a good video/song as well.
Well just saw the 2012 TCM Remembers...it's decent. Didn't know the big guy from the "Green Mile" died but what happened to Sherman Helmsley?
2002 (Bob Hope) and 2012 are the reigning champs though.
What Elizabeth Taylor movie was that at the end at the café with the rain?
I think it was "The Last Time I Saw Paris"
is the sheet music available for this lovely song
The song reminds me of One More Light, almost...
Also, "as you wish."
Looks like TCM made it private. You can still find it on Vimeo though.
Why did you cut off the end?
2003, Ya'know "TCM Remembers 2003" is pretty good too.
They should have done more for Liz - a speaking clip. Probably the iconic "tell mama everything...tell mama all" from A Place In The Sun.
Totally agree with you!!!
Miriam Seegar and Barbara Kent both born in 1907.
Nice fakeout...I almost thought they'd forgotten Liz Taylor. Well done TCM!
@Puffybelle Yeah i need to know that song to!!
❤
I love these rememberances but I have to ask what movie was the James Arness film clip from?
His younger brother Peter was in the 2010 TCM Remember.
That's a clip from 'The People Against O'Hara' (1951).
@Chuck Amuck He was also the alien in the 50's flick " The Thing from Another Planet" in 1951. He terrified my Mother in a bad way! Lol
@@steveprice2718 he was also one of Loretta Young's brothers in the Farmer's Daughter.
Wish they could have gotten a clip from Gunsmoke....
I wish all the Elizabeth Taylor queens would shut up. She was given pride of place, always reserved for the final entry. Enough!
he was also in a few cheesy 60's British horror movies
@cupcake7015 who is it by?
i was like i know they didnt 4get about elizabeth taylor then i was oooo... so sad they hav the best tribute :)
Some of these clips were hard to see their faces.
What is the name of this song? Please, I'm desperate!
Damn, lost some giants in 2011....
recognized way too many faces : (
What song is this?
2011 is not over... >:->
Where is the 2012 one? I saw it before.....'TCM Remembers 2012 ( the drive-in theater ).......Did they take it off of UA-cam?
