I have tears in my eyes. I drowned in nostalgia. I was 16 years old when "popular" came out. I was 22 years old when I heard "80 Windows" I was in a deep dark place. Now I am almost 40, I felt so many things again, thank you.
@@lancedorey2774 It's not about the song, seeing them again made me feel like that. Like seeing a very old friend, that friend now may be bald, fat and old but you see them as when you were young.
Nada Surf is probably one of the most underrated rock bands and one of the coolest. It was good to hear them speaking perfectly in French in Paris. And thank you to have found an incredible solution: instead of postponing the show because of covid , you have played two concerts with half of the public. The musician of the opening act couldn't play all his show, so they let him play one of his songs during his show and he played with them in one song. Nada Surf are cool, professional and so generous. The lyrics of that song reflects perfectly what they are. Merci beaucoup les gars! ;o) (sorry for English spoken people)
The lack of resolution points in the song's chord/melodic structure is a good match for the rambling (and astute) reasoning towards the end. Looking forward to the new album. I didn't pay any attention when 'Popular' was a hit as that song didn't quite work for me, and you didn't get back on my radar until about a year ago, when I was floored after finding a few of your amazing live performances. Have since enjoyed several songs you have written since the early 2000s up until now, which are all part of my extended playlist and never fail to induce a jolt of energy and emotion. Keep playing. I hope to catch you live some day soon.
Damn, what a vocal hook!! This album completely passed me by ( their "pandemic" album), but it's as good as every other album by these guys. Few others of their ilk have been this consistent over time. What a treat to discover it together with their newest (2024) album!
But that's his style. If you listen to any artist's body of work, there are many songs and ideas that will repeat. That's simply indicating where that artist is, stylistically as well as emotionally. I like this song because I hear a man reaching middle age and reflecting on the things going on around him. He's dismayed by all of the anger and confusion and this is his way of talking about it. And because I have also reached a similar age and mindset, I find myself in agreement. Maybe it is you that have moved on and have discovered other ideas, artists, and musicians that reflect, a little better, where you are in this stage of your life. And that's okay, not all "love affairs" are meant to last. Cheers!
Nada Surf never cease to amaze me. Today i had the best day since a long time. New song, New Album and the confirmation of a show in my hometown. I'm crying esti
Bands that are around for decades inevitably fall into routines, and I'd felt the last couple albums were a bit too similar (the flip side of that coin is 'if it ain't broke don't fix it'). I'm glad to see this clear departure. It really works for me, and I can't wait to hear the rest of the album!
What a band.....I just ripped over this on UA-cam and went through a fair bit of your stuff......Excellent writing, melody and vibe.......what a refreshing thing!!!!!!!!! Thank You. CN
Matthew ACTUALLY answered my question about this particular line, and I was struck with astonishment when I found that this actually *wasn’t* meant to be a play on words, but it totallty is. So yeah, just me finding more meaning to one of my fav bands was a huge win.
@@sobrevida157 I know! The funny thing to me is when I spoke to him about it he wasn't aware of it himself. Genius. That was the song of 2020 for me, really. I got sober and clean after 16 years of severe alcoholism and drug addiction, and I hadn't worked in years, and I got myself a job after 3 months, and I swear this song gave me the daily energy (at least four times a day) to face the social anxiety and stress of getting sober to get on that bus, and work as hard as I could, and now I'm 11 months clean. That song really was one of those life savers for me.
Who else is still listening on November 24th? Curiosity brought me here. I was 5 days younger when this song came out. Times were so much simpler then. The weight is a gift, like I had to see what I could lift. I miss you, Dad.

haha yessss
This is the kind of music we need 🙌🏼
"Empathy is good. Lack of empathy is bad." I think of this and say that simple line sometimes, and nobody seems to argue with it.
Everyone will agree but a good majority of them will still be assholes
This is probably the only time I have ever commented on a music video; heard this on the radio and bookmarked the lyrics because DAMN
How many other people watched this video more than once on the first day of release? Love this.
At least 20 times already. What a tune !
Oh man, this is sooooo good.....one of the most underrated bands in rock history, Nada Surf, just keeps bringing it!!
I have listened to this song non stop since I heard it, so good.
there's something "Popular" in this song...and this is great
That what I thought the first time I heard that song. In a way, I find the sound more powerful than "Popular".
how great is it these guys are still around
I SERIOUSLY LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!!
So far, this song is one of the best from this year, thanks for this song nada surf

Une chanson manifeste qui augure un album engagé . Rendez-vous en 2020 en concert.
High/Low vibes. Even getting "Popular" vibes from the spoken word part.
More like word art
It's very reminiscent of popular.

This is equally something fresh and new from Nada Surf but also could have been a b-side from High/Low. Amazing! Love hearing anything they put out!
