thank you , ive got a g650gs , 2009 and at a stop idling then disengaging the clutch putting it into 1st I can feel the clunk , when I release the clutch , I find that its still in neutral , I pull the clutch and put it in 1st again , and I release the clutch slowly , it slips but engages , no jerks its smooth , I just got it used, lots of miles 39 k , I may not be describing correctly , but got to start somewhere, iam thinking clutch plates , ive seen plenty of videos on that, not so much on shifters , all the other gears feels ok , its just 1st that feels sloppy, thank you for these videos ,

Since accessing the clutch assembly is fairly easy, it's worth checking those plates IMO. Since it's only sloppy in one gear, it could be the shift fork or a different part of the assembly that only affects 1st gear. Good luck!

Hi David, I bought a f700 recently and I think I have the same problem that you have. We're you able to solve this problem? And if so what was the problem and how did you fix it? Please let me know 🙏🏽

I found the best way was , to get it in to neutral, and then double clutch the clutch lever just before , so if am at a long wait , ill pull in the clutch lever twice , here and there and maybe keep the shift lever down , keeping pressure on it.
As I've been riding that bike daily , I don't really consiencly think about it any more its been awhile that I find my self in that situation ,

I and others have complained about not being able to shift from 1st to neutral or 2nd to neutral. There is a fix on a blog that mentions the "Shifter Claw" was not polished enough at the factory which causes the problem.
Is the "gear selector shaft" the same part as "shifter claw?"

Question: Doing a similar repair, (‘13 F700GS), upon reassembly I am not getting the clutch ‘pull’ mechanism together correctly. I see your mention to get the two pieces aligned alike, but on 11-12 re-assemblies it is not coming together such that the clutch works right. Are the two machined faces supposed to mate? (That would be the one on the ‘wobblie’ piece (clutch side), & the one on the actuating rod?) When it does jiggle together fully, cover to engine, the clutch actuating lever (where the cable attaches), comes to a dead stop right about where the clutch cable travel BEGINS, so not allowing the cable to be attached thus not any cable pull.
Tomorrow I’ll tray another dozen attempts, but this one is proving very odd.
    Thanks, Steve

Hi there i have a BMW f700gs 2014 model and when its running and you pull the clutch lever in it is quite noisy and rattley, would love to hear your opinion on what it is ?. I am thinking its the clutch basket worn although its only covered 18 k. Look forward to hearing back from you guys, oh also would love to know how hard it is to remove the clutch basket.

Worn clutch basket is certainly a solid thought. Make sure your clutch cable is properly adjusted at both ends so there's not too much free play in it.
Distance isn't as key a factor as how hard it's used in however far it's gone. A police bike, for example, might go through 2-3 clutches in a year, while a sedate rider might now wear out their clutch in 100,000 miles.
Hard is relative. Removing the clutch basket requires removing all the clutch components under the cover but IMO it's not terribly difficult if you have a shop manual, the proper tools and some patience.

Very filthy. Why not clean the bike before starting to work on it? Takes about 30sec to use a decent water hose or a hiph pressure device in its medium range.

In this case, the bike being dirty didn't detract from the work needing done. We cleaned what we needed to in preventing dirt/mud incursion into the affected assembly.
