Every time someone insults FAMU, notice that they always say the same thing. The negative comments usually are: "Big, sorry A** band" or "FAMU suck." These are literally the only comments people can come with. They are comments of jealousy. Let's be honest. FAMU is a great band. Besides FAMU's unmatched showmanship, it is quite obvious that the hundred values musicality over blasting. Blasting is what schools like Southern and Alabama do and it tricks people into believing that they sound good because they are playing a popular hip-hop or R and B tune at such a loud volume. HBCU bands have become more about who can play the loudest vices who can play musically. Many commenters say other schools play louder than FAMU. Well, my take is, anybody can make sounds, but can you make music? I believe FAMU makes music. I hear more sounds coming from HBCU bands such as Southern, Alabama and JSU than I hear music. There is also this thing called intonation in which I believe most HBCUs ignore. Although FAM is not always in tune, you can still count on FAM to be in tune more often than most HBCUs. FAMU is one of the only HBCU bands where you can hear all instruments within their ensemble including the woodwinds. The next time someone from another school posts a negative comment about FAMU, back up your comment with intelligent feedback vices ignorant statements. Let us know why you feel the way you do. Thank You.
Right now famu needs to worry about rebuilding its program and nothing else. Wish the 100 the best of luck. Whopping ass is the reason the 100 sounded so good..Yall had the freshman scared to mess up..lol but as I said hopefully famu bounces back..My son really loves this band I'd hate to tell him I dont want you going here because if somebody trys to put you in the cut im going to kill them...you catch my drift lol good luck 100...
All the schools you just called out for being in technical are SWAC school . Every time some from Famu or any other Meac School comes for a Swac school its always " their to loud " " all the play is hip hop tunes " . It doesn't matter whether it be " Night on Bald mountain " or freakin lil Wayne there are musical elements . Now I can say yea some swac school ignore intonation and balance but you ignore schools like UAPB or AAMU who values balance and blend . As for Southern ,JSU , and ASU those are bands that can out power anyone they also can play technical . just because you play a march doesn't make you technical . you speak of R&B and Hip Hop as if its the lowest form of music . How can you say that when it is an art form created by some of HBCU's finest . stop hiding behind that old cloak and be more forward thinking . Power and Technique can coexist , don't believe me go watch Southerns 'Power ' video .
Edward Bevels What do you value as a musician? I value musicality. A band blowing at the top of their lungs is not what I call musicality. Musicians playing Instruments at such a loud volume does create a wall of sound. But it doesn't mean that wall of sound is a melodic sound. Anybody can make noise as I said previously. Yes, I do believe musicians can play with power and still sound good but power should not become the substitute for musicianship. As a musician, I was always taught to pattern myself after great musicians. I had to first learn what a great musician sounded like no matter what instrument they were playing. I listened to professional orchestras, jazz ensembles and even military bands and after you pattern yourself after these types of musical organizations, it becomes very apparent that we are losing musicality within the HBCU band community. When you say forward thinking, I feel you are saying I should adopt the new ways music is being played vices sticking to the traditions of musicality. When you listen to songs on the radio, those songs are in tune but the issue is when those same notes come out the bell of some instruments, the intonation and musicality is completely absence. By the way, I have the highest respect for R and B and Hip Hop. It's what I grew up on and it's what I still listen to today. The point is that people only believe these bands are great only because of the popular charts they are playing.
True well said..I totally agree especially about the woodwinds being heard most ppl claim there's no need for woodwinds but famu showcase why they're needed
Doc Foster taught the world in the 60's. often imitated..never duplicated. no one will ever match The Hundred..... FAMU is the last word in Music and perfection. hence, the USA Band....
FLORIDA A&M UNIVERSITY MARCHING 100(AKA) the GROUND BREAKERS, (AKA) 1st 2 DO IT!!! Do what you say, Ground Breaking what You say??? Well I'm glad you asked... Every marching band has copied their MOLD. Marching by the Numbers. Excellent Musicianship. 5+ Drum Majors. Showmanship. The list goes on & on... "This is a FACT not an OPINION" Check the history before you implement your hatred, and give props to where the are due!!!
it was so much going on this game, we didn't get to warm up before marching into the stadium.....the game had already started and we didn't even know!!!....
I agree that most black college marching bands value a blasting sound over musicality. Florida A&M is one of the exceptions. I am sure there are others. I love that they play some of the most difficult marches.
question to Alumni 100: what happened to all those uniforms and extra instruments? Band is only a couple hundred ppl now, band was almost 900 ppl in this recording.
Southern does not blast the post is about famu don't bring other bands into it and even when southern cranks people can clearly understand what they playing
it wasn't about the march... they played to let the stadium know that the rattlers were in the house..... unless you were at the game.... to see the atmosphere in which they marched... this video does no justice!!!!!!!!!!!
You say Southern blast when they play, when you attend a Black College football game we all kno that the bands are more of an attraction than the game amp not blasting is one of the things people wanna hear so when people talk about Famu that's mainly what the argument is about.....and by the way Southern is the best band FOLLOWED by Famu...ya heard me!
that song doesnt say NOBODY"S WAR....lol...i was n the band and know that this song would NOT intimidate nobody...it should have been sumthing to jus SHAKE SCSU #gottadobetter
LOL...which war?...lol. Man, this is not intimidating. I thought that was the point in making a lil noise before you go into war. The way they marched in just serves as a GPS unit to those inside the stadium that are wondering where FAMn's band is at the time.
Southern folks would not recognize a great band if they were stand right in front of it FAMU,BCU and JSU will always be considered great marching bands while SU will be considered a mediocre band
I would think war would mean execution of the marching style the old famu band was know for am i right? something im clearly not seeing. And NO im not a hater the old famu was the SHIT...this is hot trash compared to that... IJS O.0
This had to be the weakest song to march to a stadium to...EVER. Esp, considering their size. And, it's not like the execution of the march is air tight....so, why that?...o_O
jay jenkins this not even purple carnival dumb ugly ass. they are playing a "march" which you are suppose to fucking march to.... ugh y'all want them to blast a lil wayne song marching in?????
Amazing quality. FAMU and BCU have always had my respects in regards to precision and quality musicianship.

"This is a FACT not an OPINION" Check the history before you implement your hatred, and give props to where the are due!!!
Correction not every band GSU has and will always carry their own. Famu has not lost their identity if that is what you are referring to
It's not a concert piece... it's a march... for marching bands
DAMM! THIS BAND IS LARGE!!!!!!!
It's War Time Baby !!!!! #FamForLife
It look like another country comming to town. FAMU is too deep!
THE HUNDRED MORE LIKE 300 AND IT SOUND GOOD.
why is playing a march considered playing "white music" ??
I've never seen a marching band enter with a concert music.... that is truly different
FAMU's band is too damn big! Makes no since. Damn the Marching 100. Should be called the Marching 1000!
WOW awesome brass!!
it was so much going on this game, we didn't get to warm up before marching into the stadium.....the game had already started and we didn't even know!!!....

Bayshawn Holmes, Thank u sir!
Jackson State plays the Marches as well.
LORD please help this band get it together.
the best band ever famu 2010 and 2011
Based on the battle between Southern & FAMU in 2011, I would have to respectfully disagree.
The Hundred used to march to the stadium all the time when their numbers were in the 200s.
I'm not trying to be racis but have u noticed that famu is the only black band that plays white music and it doesn't seem weird
I agree that most black college marching bands value a blasting sound over musicality. Florida A&M is one of the exceptions. I am sure there are others. I love that they play some of the most difficult marches.
.....and the Rattlers won the game:)
Luv it! Marching to battle.
NC 👦 Guy
This JG ,FAMU Should march in more.
Was it me or did i see someone walk through the ranks?
question to Alumni 100: what happened to all those uniforms and extra instruments? Band is only a couple hundred ppl now, band was almost 900 ppl in this recording.

terrific band and marches, the very best.
Southern does not blast the post is about famu don't bring other bands into it and even when southern cranks people can clearly understand what they playing
lol now that's funny!
I wasn't paying attention to the screen and i thought Ohio State was playing for a sec.
it wasn't about the march... they played to let the stadium know that the rattlers were in the house..... unless you were at the game.... to see the atmosphere in which they marched... this video does no justice!!!!!!!!!!!

It's wack to u cuz u a "OUTSIDER" anybody from FAM know when u here that cadence....It's time for war.....It's a battle cadence!!!!!
THEY SHOULD HAVE JUST PLAYED THE DOG FIGHT TO IN STORM IN SUNSHINE THE WHOLE WAY.
they need to do better
that song doesnt say NOBODY"S WAR....lol...i was n the band and know that this song would NOT intimidate nobody...it should have been sumthing to jus SHAKE SCSU #gottadobetter
That was definitely somebody affiliated with tha band.....dont get it twisted!!!!!!
LOL...which war?...lol. Man, this is not intimidating. I thought that was the point in making a lil noise before you go into war. The way they marched in just serves as a GPS unit to those inside the stadium that are wondering where FAMn's band is at the time.
I'm still scared of them girls when they have a flag in their hands #deadlyweapons
Btfol
gud question that cadence is wack...just being real
Southern folks would not recognize a great band if they were stand right in front of it FAMU,BCU and JSU will always be considered great marching bands while SU will be considered a mediocre band
jsu is not a great marching band
I would think war would mean execution of the marching style the old famu band was know for am i right? something im clearly not seeing. And NO im not a hater the old famu was the SHIT...this is hot trash compared to that... IJS O.0
I never did like FAMU's band. Never liked the style or sound. Also, wish they would just use those that attend the school and not people who don't.
Frederick Dantzler those that didn't attend was 50 people that went to Tallahassee Community College and were duel enrolled so get your facts straight
Frederick Dantzler the used duel enrollment students shut up. ugh i hate other people
This had to be the weakest song to march to a stadium to...EVER. Esp, considering their size. And, it's not like the execution of the march is air tight....so, why that?...o_O
famu big and sorry again...u know that happens every few years...lol
first time i seen them march in and not walk in..and they playing purple carnival -_-
