  • My 3 year old broke his leg jumping for the monkey bars. It was scary and the recovery was difficult, but he is just fine now, back to normal. I wanted to share our experience with his recovery to help any other parents out there going through the same thing. We recommend a water cast if it’s available to you! Expect to have some rough nights in the beginning and to be carrying a heavy toddler around for a few weeks. Watch the video to see Charlie's full recovery from a broken tibia. Be sure to subscribe to my channel for more videos on mom-life topics like cloth diapering, time saving hacks and more videos of my cute kids!

    Thanks for this post. Our (almost) 3-yr-old fractured his tibia at the trampoline park, and got his cast off about a week ago. He is so terrified to put weight on it, and we've been worried that he might need physical therapy. Since we can't get any (Covid-19 has shut everything down), it's good to see you've gone through this, and that it just takes awhile.

My son was 3 going on 4 and I think he was old enough to need it. They say younger toddlers don’t need it but older than 4 it is recommended. • @LucyakaMom
      @LucyakaMom  3 роки тому +2

      I was told by the orthopedic drs office that they typically recommend physical therapy for kids 4yrs and up. My son was almost 4 and we didn’t get it and I wish we had. But if your son is only 2.5 they likely won’t recommend it. Im honestly not sure why they recommended it for older kids and not younger. You can always ask the orthopedist just to see what your options are. I saw a physical therapist with Charlie almost a year later and she gave us a few stretches that we could do at home. She said his muscles were tight in the calf. Calf stretch and flexing the ankle with a straight leg and also with a bent leg. But of course I’m just a momma so always talk to your dr before doing anything. Let me know if you have any more questions!! Good luck!!

    • @LucyakaMom
      @LucyakaMom  3 роки тому

      Yes that was very difficult for us as well. I remember my husband would “reward” him when he did try, even with support, by “flying him” the rest of the way. Charlie was so scared to use it at first. The pool really helped because he was having so much fun he sort of forgot about it for a bit. I would say though don’t hesitate to call the orthopedic dr if you are concerned ❤️ Good luck momma.

      Hi Chelsie. Aww poor babe. I remember feeling soooo worried. My little guy is almost 7 now. He ended up recovering fully and walking normally (although as momma I still feel like I see a little difference between the legs in his stride). If you are at all concerned call the dr! Get physical therapy if you think she needs it. I regret not being more assertive. They really do recover quite well, but man it’s nerve wracking when they don’t recover as quickly as the are “supposed” to. Good luck momma!!

      Hi Manisha. We are 1 year out now and Charlie walks and runs great. My eagle eye still spies a little difference in the way that leg moves. I wish we had done rehab with Charlie. Good luck! I would check back with the orthopedist if you are worried. 💙

      Hi Mireille. So sorry to hear you guys are dealing with a broken leg! So hard to see our littles in pain. It’s been so long now I don’t remember what they told us. I do remember it took a while before he started wanting to walk with the cast. I don’t think its anything to worry about… BUT I would say after going through the whole experience, if anything seems off or not right to you go back to see the orthopedic dr again. Ask all your questions. All your questions are valid. Good luck momma!!

    Please reply..

    • @LucyakaMom
      @LucyakaMom  2 роки тому

      Hi there. I would say close to perfect. My husband says it’s perfect and I’m just seeing things, but I still think my son (who was almost 4 at the time) could have benefited from physical therapy afterwards. But yes he runs and jumps and all the typical kid stuff. I just notice a tiny difference in how he moves that leg vs the other leg. Hope this helps. Good luck!

      @LucyakaMom  3 роки тому

      Hi Sam. He is back to normal now. I feel like he had a slight difference in his gait for a long while, which is why I wish we had done rehab with him. He was about to be 4 when he broke his leg and the dr said they don’t recommend rehab for kids under 4. However I think personally we should have done it with him and I would recommend other parents looking into it. After walking in the cast all funny I think it would have helped him regain proper gait more quickly to do rehab. He will be 6 years old this month and he is pretty much completely back to normal now. Good luck!!
