Yeah, this movie becoems such a hilarious clusterfuck by the end but man, that amazing last attack, with that glorious fanfare almost brings a tear to my eye every time. Good look at the best Slayers picture, cheers!
One of the greatest convention TTRPG sessions I ever played in was Slayers vs. Castle Ravenloft. And yes, the castle absolutely got destroyed via Dragon Slave.
I watched Slayers Return because of your review! After watching the movie, I have to say that this made Lina and Naga this anime genre's version of Kai and Yuri, the "Dirty Pair!"
I think Return it's just the total package. It's better focused and with better commedy than the first movie, have a proper "serious" stake in the end, compared to movie 3 (easily the peak commedy Slayer movie, but also with the lowest stakes) and for some reasons, despite being all around solid, movie 4 really didnt left me any memorable impression. For me it's 2>3>1>4
Konosuba led me here and somehow now I wish there was a SRW or FE style game That does what SRW does for mecha anime but this time for swords and sorcery style anime instead~
another banger f a Slayers video Kaiser. While I personally love Slayers Special, Return is definitely in my top 3 list just under Book of Spells and I really look forward to when you cover that anthology when the time comes
In my opinion RETURN's not my favorite out of the 5. Slayer GREAT or GORGEOUS are my favorite I think it's the well written side characters that I like about those 2.

Damn, I really miss Slayers. I read one volume per year just to drag out its end... If I somehow had unlimited amount of money, the first thing I would do would be funding a Shaft adaptation of Medaka Box. Then funding a faithful adaptation of the Slayers LN after Volume 8 without completely retconning the 90s series.
You also forgot that the fight only broke out between the villagers and the former Zein henchmen was because Naga landed on Serena's face and immediately started blasting.
Lisa Ortiz will always be MY Lina. So yes, that is a huge knock against this movie sadly. I still can't stand Cynthia Martinez's portrayal of the character. All Martinez ever does is scream and act like a derpy ditz as the character. She doesn't have one tenth of the expression, range and comedic timing that Ortiz pours so lovingly into the character.
@@dwainsimmons3447 yea that’s because the New York cast didn’t dub the movies only 1 of them had the New York cast but that was only one of the actors the one that played zelgadis he returned for the movie that took place in the tv series storyline I heard that they tried to get Lisa Ortiz too for Lina in the movies but she was busy doing some work at the time so they had to find someone else also while I prefer the tv series actors I also kinda like Lina’s voice in the movies it took a bit of getting used to but once your used to it you realize that the dubs still pretty good adv films did a good job and while I used to wish they could’ve got Lisa Ortiz to reprise her role now I’m glad they didn’t because I like both actors takes on the character I just wish David moo could’ve reprised his role like crispin freemen did as zelgadis

I would have liked the slayers franchise but with about 90% less comedy. The first season of the series was a good balance of serious and silly. But after that the silly took over.
As someone who has seen all Slayers media multiple times I can tell you that is statistically not true, and you are definitely overexaggerating. Next was by far one of the darkest series even if the jokes were more dead even, and Revolution and Evolution-R together were by far the most serious minded in general, overall.

That ending scene of Lina and Naga staring and smiling at each other and shouting with such enthusiasm on their accomplishment always gets me chills.
