If they released the classic animated movie in theaters right now, I bet it would do better than the remake. They did that to Fox's release of Anastasia in the 90s btw.
The original shows that she is enthusiastically consenting. There really isn't much room for interpretation on that. She leans in for the kiss and Eric pulls back at first. And at the end of the song they're both leaning into it.
I think in the new version, they make Ariel to not be as obsessed with Eric like in the original. In the animated one, she is a little too obsessed with Eric after she saw him and saved him. Her curiosity and fascination for the human world sort of die down after that. She seemed too desperate for him. In the live action film, she'll be into him, yes, but not too much like the original. She'll still be more fascinated by the human world so she's not really keen on kissing him. Kinda like you see someone and find them attractive and feel drawn to them, but you probably don't want to kiss them immediately without getting to know them. Plus, in the new one, Ursula wipes Ariel's memory that she needs to kiss him in three days as a part of the deal.
