"When I was first diagnosed you would definitely know I was diabetic by looking at my fingertips because they were raised. There were all of these, you know, brown bumps and scabs on them," Courtney said. "Before the FreeStyle Libre, I have to stop to test my blood sugar. That would take up a lot of time."
Courtney not only doesn’t stop frequently anymore, she's isn't even really slowed making sure she's maintaining healthy glucose levels. Not with a simple swipe over her sensor tucked away on the back of her upper arm. That's especially true when she's working out and running marathons, balancing her body's exercise and glucose demands.
"We really wanted to transform that reality, reinvent daily glucose monitoring and provide a seamless and painless option," said Udo Hoss, Director Sensor Chemistry Business Development. "Simply scanning the small sensor provides real-time glucose data" and potential signs of low glucose.

And with FDA approval, FreeStyle Libre 14 day sensors in the U.S. now last two weeks between changes with high accuracy. It's the epitome of life changing technology.

Indications and Important Safety Information
FreeStyle Libre and FreeStyle Libre 14 day Flash Glucose Monitoring systems are continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) devices indicated for replacing blood glucose testing and detecting trends and tracking patterns aiding in the detection of episodes of hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia, facilitating both acute and long-term therapy adjustments in persons (age 18 and older) with diabetes. The systems are intended for single patient use and require a prescription.
CONTRAINDICATIONS: Remove the sensor before MRI, CT scan, X-ray, or diathermy treatment.
WARNINGS/LIMITATIONS: Do not ignore symptoms that may be due to low or high blood glucose, hypoglycemic unawareness, or dehydration. Check sensor glucose readings with a blood glucose meter when Check Blood Glucose symbol appears, when symptoms do not match system readings, or when readings are suspected to be inaccurate. The systems do not have alarms unless the sensor is scanned, and the systems contain small parts that may be dangerous if swallowed. The systems are not approved for pregnant women, persons on dialysis, or critically-ill population. Sensor placement is not approved for sites other than the back of the arm and standard precautions for transmission of blood borne pathogens should be taken. The built-in blood glucose meter is not for use on dehydrated, hypotensive, in shock, hyperglycemic-hyperosmolar state, with or without ketosis, neonates, critically-ill patients, or for diagnosis or screening of diabetes. A technology like that was a childhood dream for me (diagnosed with T1 19years ago) but I simply cannot afford the 90$ per 2 weeks, with some luck i'll be able to get some insurance one day. Thanks Abbott for pushing the tech forward !

Abbott-THANKS-been a type1 for 57 years-about seen it all but this freestyle is great-when alone I check blood sugar thru cloths with no pain or feeling watched-ALL diabetics need one

I've reduced fingersticks from 10+ times per day to just a handful of validation checks a week. Being able to see trends has been amazing. Cost for a 10 day sensor compared to 10 test strips per day is fair, amazingly, and I hope insurance companies pick up on this. Thanks, Abbott Engineering teams!

I love it and I am controlling my AIC from over 7 to below 6. The only thing is the initial 12 hours waiting period for the sensor to kick in. Recommend for all people with diabetic.

Thank you @Abott for making such an amazing product. I am in S. Korea and when I bought this my mom who has severe diabetes didnt want to try it saying she doesnt need it but I convinced her and after she got a procedure called nerve block that involved injecting steroids my dad checked with the freelibre scanner that her level was at a dangerous 300. After researching a bit it seemed that after nerve blocks levels can stay as high as that for two days but that beyond that it could mean an emergency. Luckily when I called the next day her level qas back to normal ranges and dad could monitor her level without a glitch even though they are in their 80s!!!!! I am trying to see if this can be covered by the national health insurance sooner ( they are still in talks since last year).
I've had nothing but trouble with this sensor. 5 failures
I truly like the new system, the only problem for me is to remember the sensor is on my arm and not rub it off.

Regarding the Freestyle LIbre 2, my wife is not considered suitable for the criteria for a Libre 1 never mind the Libre 2, despite being a Type 1 diabetic on insulin since 1970, on multiple (4) injections a day, and she finds it difficult to manage the blood glucose strips (remember those?). The CCG in her area considers her suitable to have a machine, but her GP does not. She is a 71-year old, who has been diabetic for nearly 49 years, but despite saying she will buy the Freestyle Libre machine herself, her GP will not pay for her sensors only the blood glucose strips, saying that the CCG is to blame. It's a bloody disgrace.

I want to tell you my story about Freestyle Libre. I used to have to poke my little girl twice a day. After three weeks of poking .Lucy didn't understand why I was hurting her . So that day she came to me and looked at my eyes and kissed me at this point I couldn't poke her. So I talked to my doctor about Freestyle Libre she gave me a prescription and now we are very happy with it. You see Lucy is a dog. Thank you Abbott. Luc and Lucy.
Stupid story
I had to use 2 sensors that did not stick to my skin.The doctors office applied the first 2 sensors which fell off in short time. I did call the consumer help number and 2 new sensors were mailed to me. I have 3rd sensor on and has been on 24 hrs. Will let you know if it stays on for 10 days. Because I am a medicare insurance holder and am not on insulin, I chose to pay out of pocket. I am also not eligible for any discount programs because of medicare coverage. I hope Abbott arrives at a place where they will make this technology available to all diabetics other than just insulin users.

Love the product, I have been on it since it’s USA release. We need the Bluetooth as they have in other countries. I know the fda approval is the hold up. I need it soon, as lows and passing out has been an issue, alerts are a must. Unfortunately I am seeking approval for the Dexcom G6. Hopefully the libre will be Bluetooth before that happens.

I like it, being a T1 helped me understand better what my sugars are doing. But... I’m not certain how accurate all strip tests are, or if different insulin affects readings, or sensor to sensor, application may affect readings, but consistently Libre readings over the past 18 months have been lower that blood tests for me. Typically 2-6 mmol/L. If I could calibrate with a blood test, it would be preferred. Also, likely looking at a Miao Miao or Nightrider to turn this in to something that can alert my phone/watch in real-time.
Hi John, thanks for your note. Interstitial fluid (ISF) glucose measurements will have a delay. ISF glucose and blood glucose measurements taken simultaneously are likely to be different. If you could, please let us know what country you live in so we can assist you further.
@@abbott Thanks. Canada. Understood, however the ISF measurements are consistently lower than 90% recorded by my test strips. From another angle, the estimated A1C feature I assume is based on all ISF readings for 90 days I guarantee is 1.5-2% lower than lab results every three months that I compare. Basically, I see a lot of consistent 3.5 to 6 results while not actually near a low sugar event. I really, really like the product, but it seems at least with the first version, I'm reviewing graphs where I need to add a few points to get a better picture of where I stand, testing blood to confirm again that I'm not actually low.
This statement is NOT CORRECT.... "And with FDA approval, FreeStyle Libre 14 day sensors in the U.S. now last two weeks between changes with high accuracy." FDA has approved them, but they are not NOW available. I called FreeStyle Libre customer service and was told they don't know when they will be available.

THANK HEAVENS FOR THE DEVICE, THAT i HAVE CONTACTED A SUPPLIER FOR. I HAVE ALREADY HAD 2 DIGITS ON TWO FINGERS AMPUTATED DUE TO FINGER PRICKING OVER A 20 YEAR SPAN. CAN'T WAIT FOR MY METER, IN THE MEANTIME ALTERNATING FINGERS AS I GO

Thanks for brilliant invention but your refil is high in price and unaffordable to continue. $90 for 10 days it looks too high.
Just call your Dr and asked him to write you a script and once that it goes to the pharmacy you can get it on your insurance I just did mine today

How often do you change the round disc on your arm?
Hi there, thanks for your note. The sensor is designed to provide accurate glucose readings for up to 14 days. In the US, the sensor is designed to provide accurate glucose readings for up to 10 days. The FreeStyle Libre 14 day system was recently approved by the FDA.
Anyone know of anything that is truly waterproof to keep the sensor on? I've tried what Abbott said but it still doesn't hold.

YOU MIGHT WANT TO TRY SKIN PREP. IT IS USED TO HOLD TAPE FIRMER ON DRESSINGS. YOU CLEANSE THE AREA, LET IT DRY, APPLY THE SKIN PREP, LET IT DRY, THEN PUT ON YOUR PATCH. IT WILL NEVER COME OFF!(OF COURSE UNTIL YOU TAKE IT OFF. LOL)
We tried everything. In the end it was simple sporttape that works best.
Funny, I found a bandage that stays on pretty well and now they have one called FixiC patches on Amazon that work well also. Thanks
Since I used the Libre I have now heavy allergic reactions with the plaster of any other diabetic product. Had to stop using the Libre and now have the same symptoms with my Medtronic CGM. Thanks Abbott! Not!

Jack Burger no, I haven’t received anything helpful. Meanwhile I switched to the Dexcom G6 but it seems that the Libre glue killed it all for me 😖 Even with the G6 I have some irritations 😭 This really sucks. The Libre made my life harder than better.

Filament is flimsy and bends easily when inserted....there goes $40 if it doesn't make it in the skin!
