The soft way Caitlyn looks at Singed’s daughter always gets to me, especially because the angles of the shots are almost identical to the ones of her looking into her mother's casket "Why does anyone commit acts others deem unspeakable? ...for love" Probably got Cait questioning everything she's done this season
I'm not why everyone is trying to convince me of undead Salo lol. Jayce literally only breathes out white after he's been affected by the Arcane. Salo never is. And doesn't the personality change make sense? Salo is at the lowest he's ever been, abandoned by Ambessa, unable to walk, and with the treatment no longer being as effective. So he lowers himself to going to Zaun, and there's Viktor, who he knows as Jayce's partner, the second mind behind Hextech, and the one who needed a cane, who couldn't walk properly, which is what Salo hates about himself. Also, a Zaunite. Yet Viktor, who Salo would have only looked down upon, was willing and able to help him walk again. It would the ultimate humbling experience and, especially after the Ambessa thing and Salo's ever-present desire to attach himself to powerful people (not only with Ambessa but how he tries to ingratiate himself with other council members) it's totally in character for him to attach himself to Viktor. Give him that time he would have spent in the commune among Zaunites, people he despised and yet now finds himself equal to, and I don't find the shift in personality surprising at all.
I'm actually gonna propose a theory here. The theory is based around the idea that Victor is not harming anyone or changing their personalities, beyond giving the individuals he heals the ability to view themselves with a completely clear and unbiased view of themselves. Salo was a hedonistic elitist snob who reveled in the power that being a member of the council provided him. He felt untouchable by anything bad that happened in the world because it couldn't happen to him. He knew everybody that was anybody, his parties were the most lavish, and his every whim and vice could be indulged whenever he wanted. And then Jinx blows up the council chambers. There is death and destruction all around him and his legs are destroyed. His body has been broken in half and he now needs help with things that he used to take for granted. And his helper is feeding into his hatred for those he blames for his broken condition. And then when Salo thinks he is going to achieve leadership of Piltover and would be able to feel like he has some of his old strength and control back... he's blindsided and pushed to the side, left to linger in decline now that he is of no further use to his "helper". He then spends months shut away, left to wallow in pain and self-pity, likely with no other company than his drug dealer and he fells like she is only there because he is paying her. And either the pain is getting worse, his body is building up a tolerance for shimmer or he's just plain addicted... but Salo is at the point that he wants/needs the drugs daily. And his dealer tell him about a healer on the fringes who can perform miracles. And despite his disbelief, he goes anyway. Maybe because he just wants to know that he did everything he could, even if it turns out to be a fraud or maybe he is clinging to the barest hint of that terrible illusion... hope. So Salo travels to the fringes to see this "healer"... and he heals him. He heals his legs, his pain, the addiction that was developing inside him. And in this moment of clarity, he look at his life. He realize that the moment he fell from power and grace, nobody cared about him. Then again why would they? He never cared about them. Not really, not beyond what coin and favours they could put into his pockets. He wanted to hurt the people of Zaun like they'd hurt him. And what did it get him? Manipulated and cast aside when his purpose was served. What would be the point of going back to that life. But here... here is someone that looks upon all these broken people and doesn't just want to help them, but is actively helping them and asking nothing in return. And they all seem happy and peaceful. They're living their lives and enjoying them. They are happier in this simple life, then Salo truly was in Piltover with all his power and parties and privilage. Maybe... maybe he could be happy here to. Anyway, sorry for the essay, but I find this storyline strangely fascinating.
Vander: "Oh, she's letting her guard down! I've got her now! She's not blocking at all! Wait...not blocking at all? Vi?" Also, I don't think the veins around Jinx's eyes are really anything to worry about. It's just a sign of stress and exhaustion. She's got super sunken eyes with huge dark circles under them, and that combined with her pale skin results in her veins standing out against her face. My eyes sometimes look like that when I haven't slept in a while. Also also, did you notice: Salo wasn't breathing. In episode 3, the animators made a point to show that it was so cold down there that you could see everybody's breath in front of their face. Whenever Ekko, Jayce, or Heimerdinger talked, you could see their breath. Same goes when Jayce returned in this episode. You could see his breath. But not Salo's.
I don't think that it is a case of Salo not breathing. I think it is a case of his body not being warm enough to produce condensation. Otherwise Salo wouldn't be able to speak.
remember Heimerdinger's warning from S1 Heimerdinger: _"I've seen this power in the wrong hands. It corrupts. It consumes. Lays waste to civilizations."_ Jayce: _“Hextech isn't a miracle. It's a curse”_ and think about it
24:40 Viktor does genuinely believe that, and that's why he's not able to see the wrongs of his doing (which is creating a cult). But yes, he's not "an evil mastermind", and his intentions were always good (at least from his perspective).
Also wanted to point out re: the lines around Jinx's eyes: As we see in this episode, Singed was working on a "cure for death" when he created Shimmer. Later when Silco brought Jinx to him he says "I believe I can save her", "are you prepared to lose her" and "sometimes death is a mercy". From what a lot of people have speculated, Jinx has had a lot of her literal life blood replaced with the doctor's incomplete cure for death. In some small way I think she is a walking corpse. Calling back to Episode 3 "No matter what I do, I just can't seem to die..."
She was absolutely a step in the doctor's process of creating a cure for death. She's got some form of Shimmer, but also she seems to always be able to call on it so it must be something her body creates naturally, even if it's just in short bursts. It seems like her version (besides whatever effect it had on her mental state) is fairly stable, but it mostly enhances her speed and strength (maybe durability a bit), which for the goal of curing death, wouldn't be nearly as appealing as the regenerative abilities he granted Warwick.
I love seeing your breakdowns and reactions, and how much you both get into the emotion of it and pay attention to details! Can't wait to see more Arcane and (on a selfish note) am wiggling for you to see Helluva Boss' Mastermind too!
Silco must have known who Powder's parents were, he was on the bridge with them when they died. Then there is the time he said to Jinx "I am doing this for us, for Zahn" which sounds a lot like what Jinx's mom told him to do.
I've been waiting for you to get to some more context on Viktor's work. I feel like a lot of people misinterpret what Viktor has done to Salo. There are a couple things I think we can say for sure in this episode. 1. Salo probably isn't fully biological anymore. He either doesn't breathe or isn't warm enough for his breath to fog. His footsteps "clank" against the glass floor. 2. Salo is still there, this isn't a hive mind situation. If Viktor and Salo shared a consciousness what would be the point of Salo reassuring Viktor their conversation would be kept confidential or asking if Jayce would like to speak to Viktor if they were the same person, or indeed of Viktor replying "very kind Salo" to himself? From what we see these are my conclusions: 1. Viktor is replacing portions of his followers with hextech by way of the hexcore to improve their quality of life. If you remember his first comment upon realizing the hexcore could effect bilogy was "This could be the key, to augmenting physiology, extending life..." it was Jayce who added "curing you" which I think spoke to Viktor's priorities even in the face of death. He has only ever prioritized leaving the world better than he came into it. 2. Viktor's followers are voluntary participants in this augmentation. This may be a bit tenuous but I feel like the gratitude that Salo shows toward Viktor in the final scene speaks volumes about how he has come to regard him in the months since Jayce disappeared. 3. Viktor follows the philosophical path of ethical transhumanism. This is very distinct from eugenics where the underlying falsehood is that some people are better than others because of how they are born, or social darwinistic transhumanism where the concept is "enhance yourself or be obsolete". Instead the underlying concept is that everyone should be able to choose to augment their body and mind to become more authentically themselves in the way they wish, and creating the technology to allow that is a capacity to achieve a moral good (which could certainly be corrupted by systems like capitalism etc. to be sure). I am very pro ethical transhumanism, my experience in transitioning my phenotypic gender presentation has had no small part to play in that I'm sure. That's my take given what you've seen so far. Lots more to discuss later as the series goes on.
I love the flashback scene SSSOOO much. Then you start thinking about everything and it pissed me off to no end. It also shows what a piece of $H1T Silko became. They were all very close. He was there from the very beginning (literally). Still doesn't' hesitate a second to order his goons to murder a 15 year girl he'd known from birth. Remember this too, he was getting ready to stab Powder before she lunged in to hug him.
At that point, he'd gotten so focused on his idealized end goal he'd lost track of the reason for chasing it. In the words of another character, he lost himself, lost his dream; in the pursuit of great, he failed to do good.
But it might be. A lot of people noticed it, too. I don't know if it was intentional, but I like to believe that with this show, there's hidden meaning to almost everything.
No. I went back and watched it carefully. Jayce's breath does not always come out as white, which suggests that the temperature in the room is in a state of fluctuation, and it is very much affected by how Jayce himself is being affected by the Arcane. He seems cold right after fluctuations, but not other times, and if Salo was healed by Viktor...well, cold isn't the word, is it? Plus, there are many times we see Salo's body move with his breathing, around 36:05 for example, or 37:15/38:01 where you can hear the breath in his voice, in contrast to when Viktor is speaking and the modulation prevents the sound of breath. He is alive and Jayce murders him. He certainly has been changed by the way he was healed, but it did not kill him.
@ I meant it as in you can hear the Va for Jayce breathe heavily and the Va for Salo and Viktor breathing is never heard, alluding to the point they are nothing but vessels for Hextech. Salo is just a walking talking corpse built and stitched together from his memories. You will see once you watch the next episodes.
Wow. You must have been so invested in the Vi/Jinx/Vander story line. I thought you would break down your thoughts on the two getting back together, fighting like sisters rather than enemies, etc.. You were mostly quiet, though. That’s gotta be good storytelling. This isn’t a nasty comment about talking too much, by the way. I wouldn’t be watching if I didn’t want the analysis.
