Rick Barry held the NBA record for most 3pts (8) in a single game for 10 years (1980-1990). He shot 8-12 3pts in that game.

Great information about those eight three pointers. Thanks. If memory serves, he once made seven in an ABA game.

That full court pass at 2:18 was so satisfying! He put some speed on it

Rick Barry's game was WAY ahead of its time.

Rick Barry pure scorer he didn't need to drive to the rim constantly and get help with foul calls to get his points.
Barry would also get 6 assists a game with no solid scoring center/ poward forward inside the post.
Barry was also one of the best at getting steals . Bary had the record of steals until scottie pippin finally broke it.

Rick would be 33 or 34 here. Still an elite star, though past his physical prime. Still drills shots from all over, makes the right passes and seems to be in the right spot on D as well.
Quick, decisive, alert. Read the game probably as well as anyone. Esp in his time. You can see why many called him "Bird before Bird. "
Similar effect, yet somewhat different styles.

Possibly the most underrated player in the history of the game. I forgot how good of a passer he was.

You need to explain your criteria if you are going to make a bold statement otherwise you just sound like an uneducated nephew. Are you talking about peaks or overall career? Skillset or accomplishments? How much do you weigh longevity? Does his ABA career count?
If you are saying that he deserves to be listed as one of the top 25 players to ever play basketball based on accomplishments and how well he played against his own era then I think you have a valid argument.
If you are saying that at his peak, he is one of the 25 best players to ever play basketball and if all of the players from all time were to be available for a redraft for a super League tomorrow then Rick would not be a top 25 pick and would be more like 50.
Criteria matters which is why I think your comment isn't incorrect because for what he accomplished in his NBA/ABA career, he has the accolades to be somewhere around number #23 overall.
      But.......
As I mentioned before, if you had all the greatest players ever at their absolute apex and they all have been training for 6 months with the world's best current basketball trainers and coaches to learn the new rules and systems. Then they all lined up for people to pick which player they wanted to be on their team in a snake draft with all 30 teams drafting and only concerned about winning a championship in year one. Then he wouldn't be a number one pick so he's out of the top 30 and my guess is either a second round pick or possibly third rounder but I'd like to say top 50.
Players who would go before Rick:
      PG's
      1. Steph
      2. Magic
      3. Big O
      4. CP3
      5. Luka
Then a bunch of maybes like Dame, Frazier, Kidd, Glove, Nash and Rose etc.
      SG's
      1. MJ
      2. Kobe
      3. West
      4. Wade
      5. Harden
      6. T-Mac
Then a bunch of maybes like Gervin, Reggie, Manu, Iverson, Booker, SGA, PG13 and Pistol etc.
      SF's
      1.LBJ
      2. Bird
      3. Durant
      4. Dr.J
      5. Kawhi
      6. Tatum
      7. Pippen
      8. Jimmy Butler
Again a bunch of maybes like Baylor, Havlicheck, Clyde Drexler, Grant Hill, Dominique Wilkins, Paul Pierce, Worthy. So many people who are close that it comes down to preference.
      PF's
      1.Duncan (he's a center IMO)
      2. Giannis
      3. KG
      4. Dirk
      5. K.Malone
      6. Charles
      7. AD
      8. McHale
      9. Bob Mac
      Centers
      1. Russell
      2.Wilt
      3. Kareem
      4. Moses
      5. Walton
      6. Hakeem
      7. Admiral
      8. Shaq
      9. Joker
      10. Embid
And again a bunch of maybes in the form of Willis Reed, Zo, Patrick Ewing and Dwight Howard.
There are so many great players that I truly hope people don't sleep on Rick who I actually believe is in the conversation for best shooter of all time not named Curry. He was so automatic with a hand in his face and was shooting 3s as soon as they were invented. Incrediblely well coordinated with elite endurance and high level speed/quickness. Not a great leaper but had good size so he didn't need to be. Used his incredibly high basketball IQ to provide plus defense and as a passer you can't name 5 forwards better than him at his apex. He would thrive in today's space and pace era if he could get over his asshole personality. He even passed on his legendary athletic/extreme coordination genes to his sons who were all professional athletes and absolutely incredible shooters. Just like Dell Curry passed on his 99.9% coordination genes to his sons, Rick did the same with lights out shooting from Brent and John Berry. Oh wait, I forgot his other son Drew could shoot from anywhere and his youngest, Canyon (maybe a whoopsees baby or just another one of Ricks incredible talents knocking up hoes with that super sperm at age who the fuck knows) is on the Olympic 3v3 basketball team.
      Baller.

This was Barry's last great season. I'm still not sure what happened when he left for the Rockets in 78-79. I do know that the offense was directed around Moses Malone and Calvin Murphy.
Barry said his role completely changed. But for him to go from 23.1 ppg to 13.5 was a 10 point decrease, that is quite dramatic.

    • @Amick44
      @Amick44 Рік тому +2

Well that was pretty much the case. Actually for years, the offense revolved around Rudy T & Calvin. Moses was starting to come on. Rick was the primary distributor at Houston. Completely different role.

Great video of a great player even at age 33. Did you know that after his two seasons with the Rockets he was going to sign with the Celtics. Problem: The NBA lowered the # of players allowed on a team's roster. Barry lost out.
