  • Just want to give you guys an update on my red dragon plakat betta fish. He's now 27 months old and sadly not in the best shape. I think that he has a tumor. I'm not really good with betta diseases so any advice is really appreciated.

    I think, if he seems fine otherwise, perhaps let him be. He's well aged now. The best thing you can do is continuing to keep his water good and doing what you're already doing. If you change something like the water type at his age it could make things worse. If he's still eating and doesn't look lethargic, that's what I would do. In any case, you know him better than anyone else, go with your instincts 🌺 good luck!

      thank you. yes he seems fine and eating normal. as you said i will continue to do his water changes and will add a little bit more catappa leaves so my old man can get a little bit older. 😃

    Just lost mine recently after only 4 months due to dropsy and he was gone in 3 days. Released a video that was really hard to make and it took me a lot of time to edit. I know how you feel, but I guess its all part of life and this hobby in particular. Not only do we need to take care of our fish we also need to be their doctors.

    Try use indian almond leaves or use melafix. I think this fish are having fin rot/clamp fin. if the fish is struggling in swimming to the top, try to reduce the level of water. This help him to get air easier.

    My red platinum betta also developed a lump like this, except towards his caudal fin. He lived a normal life besides developing a slight swimming issue as the lump grew larger. Platinums are notorious for developing these tumors... unfortunately, it seems to be genetic. I wouldn't worry until he starts acting abnormally (not accepting food). Just keep up with your normal water changes. I don't add salt in my aquariums. From one hobbyist to another! ❤️

      @@freshwatertanks Not currently. I made the difficult choice to rehome most of my fish/tanks before undertaking a cross country (almost 2000 km) move. The only one I brought with me is a giant blue dragon scale. He's nearly blind due to diamond eye, which is why I didn't rehome him. You'd never know he's impaired. He's such a little ham!

    I lost one to a gill tumor. Treated it with Iodide, but no response. He lived happily for another 8 months until the tumor finally became invasive. Where this tumor is, it may not significantly impact his lifespan, unless it puts pressure on other organs or affects his swim bladder.

    It may be a tumor generated by guanine, which gives red and black dragons their white color. It is something common in the genetics of this line so I do not recommend acquiring it. You can do home surgery to remove the numb tumor from the fish with rosemary oil or by rubbing ground garlic paste over the surgery area. Keep the fish moist while layering the tumor with a razor. I'm sorry for my English, my native language is Spanish. Greetings from Mexico.

    • @freshwatertanks
      @freshwatertanks  4 роки тому

      hi there and thank you for your comment. hmm you are already the second person telling me that dragons are more prone to tumor. i didn't know that. but i don't think that i will perform surgery on my fish. i will just take good care of him. that should be enough. thanks again for your comment and greetings back to mexico! :) and english is also not my native language, so don't worry! 😃

    Unfortunately the dragonscale bettas are often prone to cancer/tumors. And sometimes the thick scaling can go over their eyes leading to poor vision and blindness.
    I don't think there is much you can do for him other than keeping his water clean. Indian almond leaves are supposed to have antibacterial qualities, might be worth a try. Though it won't cure his tumors. Good luck. :)

    • @freshwatertanks
      @freshwatertanks  4 роки тому +1

      i didn't know that. thank you. i read about the scaling but only after i bought mine. luckily he can still see but his sight decreased over the last year. and you are right. i will continue looking well after him and the rest is nature. catappa leaves or exctract are always in my tank but i know it won't help against the tumor.

    😥 glaube diese hochzuchtformen sind sehr anfällig was das angeht...bei meiner kleinen hat sich in den letzten Monaten auch auf einer kieme genau das gleiche gebildet. wahrscheinlich auch ein Tumor, sieht genauso aus wie bei deinem... den Fisch scheint es aber noch sehr gut zu gehen! bewegt sich normal, frisst normal etc.... vielleicht mal etwas mehr humin und bisschen Salz beim wasserwechsel.... so versuche ich es im Moment, denke aber eher dass man da nichts großartig machen kann. ein Tierarzt könnte uns da wahrscheinlich weiterhelfen... hängt vielleicht auch mit zu stark proteinhaltigen futter zusammen, meine Kleine geht aber gar nicht an anderes futter... aber wie du selber geschrieben hast: das gehört halt zum Hobby leider dazu...
