Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) also referred to Lupus is a chronic
multisystem autoimmune disorder of the connective tissues; sometimes referred to as a group
of syndromes due to the difference in how it can manifests in patients.
Autoimmune disorders occur when the body’s natural defenses against disease start attacking itself.
This disorder is difficult to diagnose. The patient can have periods of remission and flare-ups.
Inflammation can be seen in almost any area and every body system as the body’s immune response is lowered.
Lupus is known for a butterfly rash on the face, they were first seen in the early 1800’s.
The discovery of the systemic involvement was first
in the late 1800’’s with the joints lymphatic system, central nervous, neuromuscular and circulatory system/involvement.
In early 1900’s the butterfly rash was again seen on 20 pts, who also has systemic symptoms involving the lungs, heart, kidney and brain, which are now, known as advanced Lupus. 18 of those patients died in 2 years, which lead to start of research into disorder.
First Nations people are also high risk and were totally missed in this video. I have Lupus and I don't take NSAIDS, they caused me too many problems because a body can't take so many pharma products for too long. I ended up in hospital from NSAIDS! I use simmered Tumeric and black pepper for anti-inflammatory and pain management. I use high nutrition and low or no grains. The one pharma that does work is low-dose naltrexone to modulate the immune system. Treat everything else naturally to maintain remission and rebuild your gut and allow organs to heal. Eat a traditional diet, it's the fuel our bodies are designed to use.
This video is helpful but I CAN BARELY hear anything she's saying!!! the music was so overpowering :(
yes I notice the vocals and music is split, so just listen with your left headphone and you shouldn't hear loud music
Why is all the editing and music necessary? Very distracting along with the grammatical and pronunciation errors. I appreciate what you guys are doing, as it is hard to find information that is not written for a layperson. Try toning down the flair though?
Very educational video, learn a lot in the 14 minutes. The practice questions are awesome.
The music!! Omg! So annoying!

Why the sound.
Hi Caroline I have a quick question for you if you find time to read this...
My name is Elise and I live in Sydney, Australia and I am in my final year of nursing school. Two weeks ago I found out I'm pregnant and quite far along too, I just didn't have any clue that I was. So now I am 13 weeks and due to graduate from nursing school in the summer, by that time I will be heavily pregnant, almost ready to deliver so I was thinking that it might be better for me to re- take this final year after I have the baby. This way I don't have to be so uncomfortable working on clinical when I'll be almost ready to pop. What are your thoughts as I know you are really great at giving advice. I don't want to give up on my dream of becoming a nurse as I have already made it through the 2 1/2 years of school. I know that it will be difficult balancing the final year of nursing school & looking after a newborn baby but I know that it will all be worth it. My boyfriend is a great support and he already works at the hospital that I have been on placement at for three years, he is an ER nurse.
Much love from Australia xoxo

Age of puberty onset is anywhere from age 9 and up.... which would make someone in middle school at risk for lupus if puberty(child bearing age) is the risk factor
Please use generic names for medications as this is how we will be questioned on the NCLEX
I really wish you was my nursing instructor for med surge 2. My instructor don’t explain anything, she just read from the book.

Very informative. Thanks for the info.
This is good. Not bulky or tiresome to listen to....
I really like all your education videos! I learn so much from your content and I love taking notes on these pathophysiology topics. It makes learning more fun and enjoyable than reading from a textbook. I am currently waiting on nursing school acceptances; I'm sure these videos will be helpful in my future studies. Oh, and I think it's amazing that you're working as a nurse and also put up quality content. How do you find the time to balance everything?
Thanks for being such an inspiration. I hope you have an awesome week! God bless :)
Great info! Thanks!
Great video, you make it very easy to learn from this! :)

Looking forward to seeing you on here again very soon!
Much Love,

Loved the video Caroline! I had a patient with lupus before.... She talked to me about what a toll it had taken on her life. It's unfortunate that emotional stress can make the symptoms worse, since it is emotionally stressful having the disease! I agree it is very important to have psychological support. Thanks again for the video!
Great video! Easy to understand. Keep it up! :)
Rudin Orellana Hi Rudin!
