I remember this match well. Bevan’s wicket was the key. He was using his feet for every ball and was being praised by gavaskar for his strategy , until sachin foxed him by bowling down the legside.
He bowled leg spin to right handers and off spin to left handers. Its a crime to call him a part time bowler 🐐

It was in 1998 @ Cochin. This was the first international ODI @ Cochin. I watched this match on our 14"" Sony Trinitron. The clarity of DD terrestrial signal was poor. But this match replays in mind in celestial clarity. Nothing happens today in cricket matches it...!!

Sachin was cricket personified. He could off spin the ball like a pro off spinner, he could leg spin the ball like he did here, he could swing the ball in either direction when he is doing medium pace and conditions are favourable, a very good fielder and a great thinker of the game. He always played fair and never reacted, rather he chose to respond with his performance : as a batter or bowler. All that make him a complete cricketer and this is precisely the reason why he earned huge respect and love despite being contemporary of the likes adorable Dravid,kumble, Dada, Shrinath, inzmam, walsh,Muralidharan etc.
Only legends know that Sachin started his career as a bowler.
Sachin wished to be a fast bowler(instead of batsman) in his childhood. But he became the best batsman and underrated bowler, however he had all the qualities of a perfect all-rounder.
