I have always said of Miss World (not sure how it works these days though) that if it is a conditional to be a Continental Queen of Beauty and off course a finalist to win the title, then it is easy to tell who is Miss World before she is announced. For instance in here, once USA (Queen of Americas) was called, as a result Iceland was the winner of the paegent because the rest of the finalist were none Continental Queens nor none of the Continental Queens left were finalists.
Miss Zaïre was the most stunning girl that year. She also finished as 2nd runner-up at the Miss Universe pageant in ‘85. All those dresses were very ugly holy moly!!
That's because most of us don't have last names. We're usually named after our fathers. For instance, Hólmfríður's father's name was Karl, hence Karlsdóttir (daughter of Karl). Men are named after their fathers too, but their names send with -son. Such as Karlsson, Jónsson and the likes. Hope that shed some light on our culture.

Do blond people’s hair turn darker in colour as they age? I have looked at Miss Iceland’s recent pics in her FB profile. She is clearly a brunette now. In fact, many blond beauty queens have become brunette in later life.

There was no suspense in the announcement of the Miss World...AT ALL. If the first runner-up went to the delegate from a continent that didn't win the continental title...it would have been glaringly obvious that the title will go to the QUEEN OF BEAUTY from the same continent.

En las ultimas 3 coronaciones (2008 al 2010) la reina espera de pie a que llegue la ganadora, la felicita y luego se pone detras del trono para coronarla. Miss Mundo es super fastidioso, solo la coronación es medio emocionante aunque yo prefiero Miss Universo ya que hay mucha mas tension!!!

Ruddy Rodríguez (venezolana también) en 1985 fue la única en alcanzar el máximo puntaje en la preliminar (36 puntos) pero al final sólo quedó entre las 7 finalistas.
Miss Jamaica screwed up her final interview royally. It was a simple question and yet she couldn’t give out an answer. Poor girl. At first, she looked overly confident then she stumbled and started to get nervous. That might have cost her a place in Top 3 or even the crown. As for the Miss UK and Miss USA’s placements, this is Miss World contest so they always favour their hometown candidates. Many Miss UK titleholders didn’t place or make it to the final 5 when they represent their region England, Scotland and Wales in Miss Universe later went on placing very high in Miss World contest. Frankly, Miss USA’s face doesn’t look all that attractive to me but she has a very good figure and she is an very intelligent girl. She has exceptional communication skills and aced the interview. That’s why her 3rd place placement is fair. Miss UK looks slightly more attractive and she has gorgeous figure. Her interview was good too.
@@escpat She wasn´t going to win with that gown, but yeah she lost some points in the interview, same with Venezuela. They both were prettier than USA and UK whom did great interviews, actually USA should have won based on the interview and being the most elegant.

Miss Jamaica screwed up her final interview royally. It was a simple question and yet she couldn’t give out an answer. Poor girl.
