It's totally ridiculous that Kraftwerk earning a lifetime achievement award only has one low-res video. They should have been front and center on the Grammy's show. I can't believe how many people do not understand that the genres of dance, pop, ambient, and hip-hop were all fundamentally altered and/or laid down by Kraftwerk.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if that's what Ralf wanted... he never likes appearing in person speaking on camera.. as evidently, none in existence(well, other than a 2 second clip of him and florian). It's quite possible it was his choice. If not then what you said.

@Paul Cole wether they went commercial or whatever music is music and they were for the most part still interesting I think. And as far as electronic music goes they were the cleverest of the lot. Tangerine Dream certainly have their place in this form of music. There is no one else like TG for sure. Cheers !

WOW! I never knew they won this award. Why wasn't it on TV? All the bone heads that are up there today owe a debt to these guys. Even Gary Numan who is called the "Godfather of Electronica" bows his head to these guys and says they were way ahead of their time and a huge influence on him. A shame people didn't get to see this or hear about this.

This is just what magazines/journalists have called him in articles, especially after other musicians started name checking him. It's sad news. The last 6 or so 'Corona weeks' I was diving into electronic, synthpop and Krautrock music's history, starting my journey with my old Propaganda cd 'A Secret Wish' - also from Düsseldorf - and then going further back in time. I (re)discovered how great and interesting it was. Filling big holes in my musical knowledge. I totally fell in love with Kraftwerk, again. But this time with bigger respect, appreciation and pleasure. Florian being the oldest member left Kraftwerk years ago and I was already wondering how he would be doing these days. I was listening to their music yesterday evening in my garden. This morning I was shocked, reading that Florian passed away. He made his last journey, not on the Autobahn, not by TEE or bicycle, but from Düsseldorf straight back to where his music came from, Himmel hoch.
      RIP Florian.

This is the most sad and disgusting thing I've ever witnessed in Music. If the the big corporate music shit machine really wanted to pay tribute to Kraftwerk. They would have an entire grammy special on tv about Kraftwerk, their orgins, the experimental music scene they came out of and the incredibly enormous impact they have on modern music, but that would bore the masses and they would lose viewers which means losing some profit (oh no!) and they don't want that.

Ralph is the only one that actually "plays" live on stage but not all the time. Most of the show consists in synthetizers playing live by themselves.
Two of the three other "robots" amuse themselves playing with EQ's and filters; exceptionnaly, Henning Schmitz plays very little tidbits.
The third "robot" (the newest member) handles the video portion of the show.

Pharrell Williams probably just found out about Kraftwerk. If it wasn't for computers and software synths that come "out of the box" with presets that allow any hack to make a track in 15 minutes Williams would be a nobody. The only upside of his existence is he serves as good comic relief. Every time I see him his clothes make him look more & more hysterical! I suppose that's how he shows us what an "individual" he is.
