Backyard Garden & Chickens | Zone 7b | North Alabama Gardening

It’s been a while! So sorry for the absence, but I’m glad to be back! Just a quick walk through to update you on our backyard garden/chicken area.
We added more garden beds, built pallet compost piles, netted the garden beds to attempt to keep the chickens out of them, and had a broody mama hatch some babies!

I grow Evening Primrose in my gardens for capturing the japanese beetles. Then I feed the beetles to my ducks and geese.

Buy a Japanese Beatle trap and feed them to your chickens, I got one but by the time I got it the season was over for them but I’ll be ready for them next year, my plan is to use that trap with a 5 gallon bucket with a half inch of water in it so they will drown, then I’ll dump the out every morning so the chickens can feast on them.

I'm going to give you a game changing piece of advice. Move the chickens out of your raised bed area, and put in a half dozen ducks. Far better bug getters who don't damage the beds....

I have heard that Guinea Fowl are good at controlling Japanese Beetles.
