Congrats on 15 years. 8:08 "Some of our fans who were little children are now studying for doctorates ... we wish you all every success with your chemistry" - I remember meeting Professor Poliakoff at ANU in Canberra in 2011 when I was in Year 8, and he wrote something very similar on an autographed Periodic Table. I am now working as an electrochemist. Thanks for the inspiration over the years.
Your comment need to be pinned
(by the way, what is electrochemistry ? It's about batteries and fuel cells ?)
@@nicejunglepretty much anything that has to do with chemistry and electricity. Copper for example is purified electrochemically. Your not wrong with batteries being a huge field where it has application thought.
@@nicejungle in my case, copper electroplating and electrically texturing silicon solar cells
Isn’t an electrochemist just a regular chemist as opposed to a nuclear chemist?
I'd like to see the element of the professor's birthday, but I'm afraid it would be quite ☢
Congratulations on a milestone very, very few UA-cam channels ever reach, let alone one that isn't some kind of pop culture thing. You're all wonderful people and thank you so much for the education and entertainment. Here's to 15 more years, indeed!
I just watched comperphile's jpeg compression video and was surprised at how old it was. After binging for a bit I thought " man, I haven't watched or been suggested a periodic video video in awhile!" I think channels like these laid the foundation for many great channels that now stand on the shoulders of giants!

15 years and still going strong. Thanks for keeping this channel going Brady, and for everyone at Nottingham for their contributions towards Periodic Videos!
I switched from molecular biology to chemistry because of you guys. Now I am about to get my PhD in pchem. Thank you so much.
Congratulations 🎉
wow I've heard chemists usually hate pchem
Happy birthday periodic videos.
Thank you guys for everything. 💜 Wishing you all the best health - here’s to another happy 15 years!
13 years ago I was a high school student taking chemistry for the first time. Now I’m a PhD in chemistry working in industry. Been following your channel the whole time. Thanks for inspiring a whole generation of chemists! Here’s to another 15 years
Thank you Professor for your dedication to sharing knowledge.
15 years, wow! You've been one of my favorite channels for years. Martyn is a legend. Here's to more chemistry!
After watching you for like ~10years yesterday Ive finished my bachelors in pure chemistry
Deserves a congratulations 🥳
@@KarinaMilne thanks 🥰
Happy 15th birthday. I can say nothing better about you than to share the simply fact that you were my first subscription on youtube, and the only channel I have subscribed to continuously since then. Here's to many more videos.
"My bottle of bromine was bigger than his"
I love how, even with scientists, sometimes, it's the little things in life you appreciate.
I first watched this channel in highschool and have since worked in a number of chemistry labs and have a final interview to work as a lab tech in a school this week! Feels very full circle
I might not be a chemist but I still LOVE everything you guys have to show!
Congrats on 15 years!!!
Happy Birthday from a 75 year old chemistry student.
Congratulations on 15 years! I first started watching early in my highschool career, before I even knew chemistry was my passion. Now I'm going into graduate school to pursue a PhD in chemistry. Thanks so much for all the cool science and entertainment you've given over the years!
The side of the box contains red phosphorus, binder and powdered glass.
What you wanted were strike anywhere matches.
This substance is found in the head of strike-anywhere matches and in the striking surface of safety matches.
Absolute national treasure of the Internet. Congratulations on 15 years, here's to thousands more in archive. Thank you so much for all you have done, I've followed along every step of the way.
Thanks for all of the fantastic chemisty content Professor. Just graduated with a B.S. in Chemistry and your channel was a constant source of interesting information throughout my years in school.
Man what a week, graduated with a masters in chemistry recently and a new periodic videos video
It's true what the Prof said at the end of the video where he said some of us have "grown up watching PTOV and are now in their doctorate". It's true in my case and when I look back I am amazed of how time went by so quickly.
Happy birthday Periodic Videos!!! Thank you very much for teaching us already 15 years about the neverending beauty of chemistry 🎉🎉🎉
Edit: Love y'all
Congratulations! And thank you, guys for the videos - when you started I was a second year BSc in Chemistry in Bulgaria (ended up there by mistake, but already was comitted to this beutiful science). And in '09 I was visitting student at Nottingham Uni (I think it was at Li Puma's group at Chemical Engineering) and was hoping to spot Prof. Poliakoff on the campus (didn't ... it was in August and well deserted). So funny that, tomorrow I am turning 35 (and was making a Br symbol-ed cake for my colleagues at the Dept. of Chemistry of TU Sofia /* I am now an Assist. Prof. here*/. What amazes me nowdays, is how are you getting these experiments past the safety inspector (did my postoc in UK and can remember how eagle eyed they were :) No matter how - carry on with the good job !
One of my favorite comfort channels to fall back to. Having trouble finding the words for my appreciation, but rest assured UA-cam wouldnt be the same without brady and Prof. Here's for the years to come
15 years and you haven't aged a day! You guys are great!
Perhaps a wizard should check him for magic rings, especially if he makes it to his 111th birthday.
I started watching your channel in 2015. I was 10. Now I am training to be a physicist. Thanks a lot for inspiring me
I was burned by white phosphorus while moving a burning saucer of it into a laboratory sink. The blisters were huge and painful. Thanks for all your glorious demonstrations.
Periodic Videos, Deep Sky Videos, Sixty Symbols, and Numberphile. I dont know what I'd do without you guys! Also helped start Dr Becky with her own channel that is awesome as well!
And of course Dr. Moriarty!
Happy 15 years periodic
Videos!🎉
I realised that 15 years is a substantial part of even Martyn’s career.
There were two issues with the match test, one is that the match has a thin wax coating that likely would block the bromine but the other is that the red phosphorus is on the side of the box as the striker, there is none in the match head.
Cheers to 15 years. I stared watching you in 2014 still in school, and now I am starting my PhD in Supramolecular Chemistry. Keep going! Greetings from Belgium.
What’s that?
That rolled R in ‘bromine’ was on point
¡Feliz cumpleaños Periodic Videos! 🎉🧪
"Some of our fans who were little children, who are now studying for doctorates"
omg that's me :D
Congratulations on your 15 years. I have not gone into a chemistry field, but I loved chemistry at school.
Congratulations on 15 years! My son (who is also 15 years old) is taking his first Chemistry class this year, and we are supplementing his class with your video series. He loves it! Thank you for making these videos to educate us, and make us smile! Here's to more! 🎉
I wish I had these videos to watch in high school. I would have gotten into chemistry wayyyy sooner. I am jealous of future generations but also glad they have such an approachable introduction to the world of chemistry. Here's to 15 years of greatness and to 15 more to come! 🍹🥳🎉🍻
Congrats to you all !
I was already a student (in physics) at the time of 2008, and I discovered you guys on UA-cam around 2010. I’m glad you were part of my scientific education, along with sixtysymbols and others. You helped a lot. Thank you so much.
I have been watching these videos since 2021, they surprised me with element chemistry videos and convinced me to study biochemistry. Congratulations on your 15 years of uploading content. I send you affection and greetings from Mexico
To another 15 years 🎉
I LOVE this channel!! when I saw that you made a video for EVERY element I was HOOKED!!!! - I REALLY hope you can continue putting out videos with new and exciting ideas for content (maybe re-visiting some of those elements that there wasn't much to say.... which are my FAVORITE videos!! I LOVE when youi guys find out something new and do updates... :D ) Chemistry has always fascinated me, but I never studied it in school.. but now I think I know more from your videos than I would have ever learned in my crappy school lol
- THANK YOU!!! and here's to ANOTHER 15 WONDERFUL Years!!! 🍻 CHEERS!!!
Happy 15 years, here's to many more
Love these videos as well as other Nottingham University channels. A few years ago I went through all of the periodic table and shared with my then young kids. I put up a poster of the periodic table in their room and often talked about different elements. One is now half way to becoming a pharmacist and the other is in engineering school. Thank you!
My education was concerning chemical technology. I am not working as a chemist, but I still like chemistry very much. These videos are quite entertaining and some of them contain things I didn't know. Best wishes to you!
15 years? Heavens! Thank you so much.
Happy 15th! Love your videos.
Congratulations! We're all so lucky you're still making videos. Thank all of you! :)
I remember finding these videos around 2011-2012. This channel has come a long way! Great work!
Time flies when you are having fun.
I've watched this channel and a few of Brady's others for the entire journey. It's been enjoyable because the people features are enthusiastic, genuine, and experts in their fields. Thank you.
Congratulations on 15 years! It went by so fast! I've never had much of a head for chemistry so it's still a bit of a mystery, but I've learned SO very much from this channel! Thank you for all your hard work!
Heartfelt congratulations on 15 years of “Elements.” Try dissolving white phosphorus in carbon disulphide, then use the resulting liquid to ‘write’ on a piece of paper or, better still, a white handkerchief. The carbon disulphide evaporates and the fine particles of phosphorus ignite forming the letter or number shape
15 years is huge! congrats to Brady and all of the contributors
Congratulations on the 15 years.
As I understand it, there's no elemental phosphorus in the strike-anywhere match 'system' (though there's a phosphorus compound in the match-heads which is converted to white phosphorus by friction). For safety matches, the red phosphorus is in the striker on the box.
To Brady, Martyn, Neil and everyone else involved in making these videos:
I first started watching your 'Periodic table of videos' series when my primary school teacher used them for a school project many, many years ago. I rediscovered this amazing channel a few months ago, and it really helped me when revising for my GCSEs - not only remembering the content, but also reminding me that chemistry is far more fun, interesting and exciting than just memorising abstract facts in a textbook. If my results are good, I'll be starting to train as a vet nurse in September, and continue to use my Chemistry skills during the Lab Tech parts of the course. Thank you for inspiring me to persevere and continue learning about science. Here's to another 15 years of Periodic Videos!
Congrats on 15 years! I found your channel about 3 or 4 years ago and it sparked a fascination with chemistry that I didn't know I had and I've been watching ever since. I really wish I could go back in time so I could undo all the terrible life decisions I've made and then study chemistry.
I Hope to see another 15 years of amazing videos!
Professor, you are a treasure. Congratulations on this great milestone!
Congratulations on 15 years! Long live the channel and thank you for all these fantastic videos!
Amazing anniversary! Congratulations and keep up!
Been following you fir years on youtube.... 15yrs.. congratz professor. And the entire team behind this... especially for neil.❤
Here it is for the next 15 years! Thank you for your dedication.
From a decidedly non-chemist, but nevertheless very intrigued and interested viewer.
Congratulations on your anniversary and thank you for all the great videos.
Congratulations on this special milestone! Thanks for all the work, it os much appreciated.
Hearty congratulations on your anniversary! I've loved every one.
Congrats on your birthday! As a russian speaker I can not only look for spectacular experiments but improve my English too. Thank you a lot for this ability!
Started watching the channel in 2014 during my first year as an undergraduate. Can’t believe it’s been almost 10 years. Thank you for all the effort you’ve put in over the years. The longevity of the channel is impressive. Hope you’re all well.
Would be interesting to see an update video on some of the ppl who were in the original videos.
Happy 15th birthday! Hopefully there will be new content coming soon. And thank you Professor, Brady, and all the others at Nottingham for making such awesome and educational videos for all of us.
🎉🎉 congrats to all of you at the lab! Perfect video for such a milestone! Can't wait for more 🎉🎉
I just think of all the great videos over the years and I'm just so happy this channel exists. Thanks.
Happy 15 years! Congratulations on such a long time!
I wish I had known your videos while I was at highschool it would have made studying chemistry (2008-2010) so much easier and I would've had more of an interest back then like I do now.
Thank you again for making chemistry such an interesting science.
After all these years and projects of yours i stil come back to this channel and objectivity the most, they still give me those awesome "back in the day youtube" vibes.
Thank you for all your work Brady and the whole team!
Happy Anniversary!! Please, never stop!!❤❤❤❤❤
Happy Birthday Periodic Videos!
I look fwd. to each new installment! Our world is a better place because of you guys!
Thank you for all these videos over the course of time!
Congratulations on 15 years! Keep up the great work you're doing!
Congratulations Prof and all the team. I've been watching this channel form the very start and I can't believe it's been fifteen years!
Well done gang,
Periodic Videos is the best UA-cam channel I know. Thank you, professor Poliakoff and Brady.
Congratulations 🥳 🎊 🎉🤗💐And a big thank you from the depths of my heart! Your videos gave me so much! Since periodic videos exist Chemistry means to me kindness, curiosity, humour and a decency I aspire to, for the rest of my life!
Thank you Sir Martyn and the Hon. Neil and Brady... here's to another 15 years!
Happy birthday, Periodic Videos! Thank you!
Congratulations to all of you. Your enthusiasm really is contagious and always brings me a smile.
All the best wishes for the fifteen years! I myself begun watching as a schoolkid out of curiosity and continue doing so, even if I have very loose connection to chemistry. Hope for many more long years and great videos!
References from these videos helped me w/ science fiction in college as jump off point for research. Every video - across all barking dogs to hammer smashing reactions - is a treat!
Congratulations on some of the best videos to be found on UA-cam and anywhere!
this is great. thanks for making these. i have been watching these since nearly the beginning.
Congratulations on 15 years of great chemistry and fantastic videos.
Happy 15th birthday to all you guys at Periodic Videos.
I enjoy all your videos as you do all those kind of experiments I fancied to do when I was a young student.
Professor you are an absolute myth!
Thank you for 15 years of such fantastic educational and entertaining content! I started watching these videos in school, and they definitely helped me become more interested in chemistry. I am now starting my PhD in organic chemistry later this year!
Amazing it’s been 15 years! Congratulations, you lot!
I had a meth-head uncle that talked about red phosphorous *_A_* *_LOT_* . *_RIP_* Uncle “Fast” Eddie.
Thanks yall. Keep it going. I appreciate your content.
Your videos are always so fascinating
Congratulations! These videos have been very educational!
Thank you for all of the education and demonstrations. It really is quite a fun way to learn watching these terrific videos.
Wow I haven't been on this channel for like 6 years and I'm glad it's still going strong. Congratulations!
Your videos, with all of your contributors, could not fail! Kudos
Many congratulations. Keep going as long as possible. You are absolute legends.
