- Hey guys! N Scale Train Boy here with a video of an operating session on Doug Dederick's AWESOME N Scale Great Northern Kalispell Division layout! Doug's Layout is an awesome display of how much distance you can emulate in N scale. The scenery work and especially the height Doug has created is incredibly impressive, and truly a work of art.
Additionally, Doug's layout was featured as the cover photo of the April 2024 edition of Model Railroader Magazine, and if you see the magazine, I highly recommend reading Doug's article, its a great read with some excellent photography work.
Doug models the Great Northern Railway's Kalispell Division, from Whitefish to Shelby, Montana, circa the 1950s. As such, first generation EMD and ALCO diesels rule the rails, over high bridges and through the mountains of Montana, through Glacier National Park.
I was the Yardmaster at Whitefish Yard, building Eastbound Departures preparing to run the railroad, so I got some yard time lapses like I do on Jack's Layout.

I imagine you were in N Scale heaven lol! Doug has the best N Scale layout I’ve ever seen, great to see the progress on his layout since I was last there a few years ago!
Absolutely, Doug’s work is truly magnificent!
tone the music down some, lower the the sound level when you or people are talking.
On your intro, place you intro voice track over some of the operation video B roll. (We can see you made your bed but still have stuff on the floor)
Pull the camera back so we can see the people operate the trains, It is also nice to hear the people talking about what they are doing when operating trains.
