Missed the last 20 minutes of today's stream. Just wanted to say that I appreciate you still taking the time to upload these to UA-cam for a streaming archive after all these years. It really helps in case I miss a stream or want to go back and check out your other reviews. Hope you had fun with D&D and hope to catch tomorrow's stream.
It's crazy that this game came out the same month as Halo 2 and Half Life 2. November 2004. I'd say that out of the original versions Halo 2 stands up the best but all 3 games have since been rereleased and improved. My experience eith Doom 3 was much like my one with the original Doom. I actually played this game for the first time on the OG Xbox around 2006. Obviously it had issues but it was very impressive for that system. Plus it actually had linkable co op which was great. At the time being able to play the game co op was very cool. But it wasn't until the redone version for the PS3,then the PS4,that I really got into it. Played it quite a bit, unlocking every locker and finding every secret, although I could never platinum the game since I never play Deathmatch. It's a good game made better when you don't have to constantly switch to a flashlight.
I never liked Doom 3. I was enjoying it for the first 3-4 hours, but then it just got... samey. Another dark corridor, another jump scare. It felt like a slog. I ended up cheating my way to the end just so I could see the end. I've never gone back to it since, but I've always gone back at some point to every other DOOM, including 2016 and Eternal.
Oof, BFG edition, the worst version of D3, imo. Pretty sure it was created mostly for the sake of consoles. Textures go through some filtering that make them appear blurry, messed up looking lighting for the sake of brightening up the game, unskippable cutscenes, decreased (sometimes significantly) enemy count, removed bits of content from RoE expansion... There's probably more I'm forgetting. If anyone wants to play D3, I'd suggest running the OG game through a fan made source port called "dhewm3". Runs great on modern systems and you can get "duct tape flashlight" mod to have flashlight at all times.
Unless you don't game on a PC or don't have one or don't have any experience with using mods. Playing it on the PS4 was a great way to play it and I liked playing it on the PS3 as well. Actually had a great ,65" 3D TV so I had fun playing it in 3D as well. The lighting never bothered me much as I never played the original and don't care about horror games much anyhow. But I do understand wanting the unaltered original. They should have put that as an extra in the BFG edition. Maybe Nightdive could do a version sometime.
Because they were trying to ride the coattails of the increasing popularity of horror games like Resident Evil and Silent Hill. When the original Doom came out that wasn't really a thing. But 10 years later they were pretty huge. So it's easy to see why they did it. But instead of setting trends they were copying them this time. It's why Doom 2016 had so many problems before they just went back to the original for inspiration.
1:06:03 You can see the soldier tp in. A couple of feet in front of a guy and that shotgun spread is so huge half the pellets miss. Man this game sucks - no wonder everyone remembers HL2 and forgotten about this wanna be Doom.

I'm one of the few that actually Love Doom 3. I got the mod perfected Doom that adds levels and akimbo double barrel shotguns.
I wouldnt call being locked in a room in doom 2016 a skippable cutscene
heheheheh "Doom Cubed"

Why does Doom 3 try to be a more "realistic" shooter and stray away from the classic fast pace combat that made Doom good?
