    Hi Charles… it’s figurenerd again (aka Jaya) . I just got back from Blick and bought some Matt board that was on sale and then I got some wire mesh to sculpt with, some plaster of Paris and a half gallon of Elmer’s glue. Also got some balsa wood and clippers to cut the balsa with at different precise angles. I know you use polystyrene and pvc. I’m just more familiar with balsa and Matt board. I can see how PVC and polystyrene will probably hold up better overtime.. it’s just that hobby lobby is a little farther of a drive for me, but I might try those products at some point. Anyway I’m curious about your toilet paper paint and glue mixture that you use over your foam. Do use toilet paper because it provides a good texture for your cave walls.? I’m using wire and cardboard to make my stalagmites and columns for my cave. I’m not very experienced with paper Mâché and this is going to take up a lot of space so if figure I might end up throwing a lot of these projects out. That doesn’t make me sad though because I enjoy the process and will get experience..

    Do you have a ratio of water glue and paint / paper? Your cave looks so good? How do you get that west look? I am just amazed with your computer and machines. And the vault and platforms. The rivets and rust-it all looks fantastic😮

    • @charlesalexanderjr2247
      @charlesalexanderjr2247  3 місяці тому +1

      Hey buddy,always good to hear from you! I dont use an exact ratio. Kinda just depends on the job. If im working a spot thats going to on a vertical area ,i will mix it more thick. But usually i mix a 1 to 1 ratio. 1 bottle of glue then same bottle with water....(shake to get all glue out). As far as the amount of paint, i just mix in enough to get color i like. The wet look of the rocks is a happy side effect of the glue. I use toilet paper because its so cheap lol. I have used paper towels but i find the little dots on most shows up to much after dry. You can use mod podge to but the really cheap paper glue works just as well. I also find that just useing a few few squares of toilet paper at a time works best. Wetting the project with a bit of glue mixture before applying/ dabbing paper works nicely to. Thank you again for watching ,i really appreciate it my friend.

    • @FigureNerd108

      @@charlesalexanderjr2247 you know, I’m papier-mâché right now and I’m finding that the smaller the torn pieces are the more crannies and facets I can fill in. If the pieces are too large, they tends not to conform to the shape. I also made the mistake of using the brown paper bag paper, which is too thick. I’m going to start using toilet paper because it probably absorbs the glue water mix much faster and Ormes to whatever surface much easier than brown paper. This mistake taught me though so no harm done. I really appreciate your quick response and I’m going to try the mix. Thank you very much.

    How many rolls of TP did this project take. And how thick do you lay it on? I made an arch with stalactites and stalagmites using tp paint glue mix and it looked pretty good. Then I tried poster of Paris and ruined it.

    • @charlesalexanderjr2247
      @charlesalexanderjr2247  3 місяці тому

      It took 3. I find that the cheapest tp you can find really works best. I used the walmart brand 4 roll pack. Its usually just one layer. Some areas may need a second ,like harder to reach verticals like ceilings

    • @FigureNerd108
      @FigureNerd108 3 місяці тому

      @@charlesalexanderjr2247
      So only one layer of TP? Wait, so you didn’t try to make the TP look rocky and its texture you tried to make the foam look rocky and it’s texture and then just covered the foam with flat pieces of 🧻 or did you try to manipulate the TP ?

    • @charlesalexanderjr2247
      @charlesalexanderjr2247  3 місяці тому

      @@FigureNerd108 , i roughed out rocky shapes in the foam.....some rock i used air dry sculpting clay to perfect the details. Then a layer of tp .with more detail and undercuts it takes a bit of patience with the tp. Definately do a dab instead of trying to brush.. Its amazing how hard of a shell it makes.

      One final question… how much would you sell it for if f you were willing to sell?

    • @charlesalexanderjr2247
      @charlesalexanderjr2247  4 місяці тому +1

      Thank you! Of coarse i dont mind. I always welcome questions. Everything i used are really easy and common to get. I use alot of pvc tubeing i get from hobby lobby. The foam i used for the main structure was floatation styrofoami got for free from a local lake dock that gave it away.but you can find pretty much the same thing that people throw away at like dollar stores, etc. I use alot of styrene sheets that you can get small squares at hobby lobby.but i had some large sheets i had ordered. The number one most versitile thing i build with is expanded pvc sheeting. It is awesome! I have a local rubber and plastic company i get it thru but its super affordabke and easy to find.i prefer the 3/16. Its rigid,yet you can cut it super easy. It is easy to endent to make panel lines. Ive made star destroyers,at- ats, emperial shuttles.etc with it. ( im going to show them in a video soon). Alot of what i use is just common stuff around the hose. Like the foam when i cut the rough shape, i mix just regular elmers glue, paint and use toilet paper to cover the surface. It is very time consumeing for sure but when it drys its like a shell..very tough and durable. I also use insulation foam from home depot/ lowes. Comes in differant thickness and is super dense but easy to sculpt. I also used about 10 lbs of scullting air dry clay to refine the rock shapes before covering with the paper shell.I didnt quite keep track of cost because i allready had mostly everthing i needed but if i had to ball park it,id say maybe 50 to 60 dollars total.... if you factored in the time it took me ....sheeew 5000 lol. I dont know if i could ever sell it ..... i spend so much time and effort on the building and research( watching the movie 200 times in slow mo)i kinda get attached to it.

    I'm really impressed with the accuracy and the work you put into this. I'm in the process of figuring out how to make a 1989 Batcave out of Legos. It's hard finding large clear photo reference for where everything is situated. From all the photos that I've been pouring over it looks like you did a remarkable job. Thanks.

    • @charlesalexanderjr2247
      @charlesalexanderjr2247  11 місяців тому +1

      Thank you!, i also had the same problem.i scoured the internet,used the old topps movie cards, rewatched the movie an extra 50 or so times and did alot of slow mo. There are a few people on youtube that have done a "walk thru" .but they come up short. Theres one i found that was video game play they made but the layout was way off. Instead of getting out of the batmobile and going behind and threw the door at the concrete pillar and around to the computer platform(as it is in the movie).they had the catwalk at the suit vault go all the way behind the platform and around to the batmobile. Ultimately i think every part that can be seen on film i came close.the platform was tricky to nail the correct shape.i had to fudge the backside and inside the concrete pillar a bit from just haveing no clue what it looked like.
