    The growth in your garden is astronomical!!! So Gorgeous!!! I love seeing a hummingbird moth in the garden. After painting walls in my daughter's old bedroom for many days, I went to Lowes for trim/door paint. I entered through the garden center to feel the joy of being surrounded by plants. I ended up at the clearance rack. 🤭 I got a cracked plastic pot full of Angelonias for $8!!! 😃 Along with new guinea impatiens and a few other plants. I did go back into the store for the paint. 🤣 After my daughter's wedding I'm going to download Pinterest so I can see your account. 😉 Happy gardening. 🙋‍♀️🌸🐦🐛🦋

    I would definitely call your garden a success! How lush & colorful! The Chelsea chop…yep, I hear about it all the time & even a good friend of mine who loves to garden has to remind me to do the Chelsea chop. Im good at deadheading but chopping…it’s so hard…but I do have a lot of things that will need it only to watch it flush back prettier than ever…at least I hope! But, for zone 8a, we aren’t at that point yet.
    Got back from vacation last week & my coral nymph salvia is beginning to bloom. So excited! I wasted so much seed trying to start it in jugs only to find spreading it in an open pot later in the season would be the successful way for me. Easy. Im with you, if it isn’t going to be easy then I wouldn’t do it. Life is difficult enough, right? Lol
    Hugs from GA

      I'm glad that you got home safely from your vacation, Lindy Lou!!! I'm so with you about the Chelsea chop! It hurts! I hurt me while I was doing it to the salvias. I had to keep reminding myself that if I didn't cut them back that they would break off, but the bees were enjoying the blooms so much! - Yay about your coral nymph salvia!!! You will always have it now! It's such a joy! I often think of Keats' line, "A thing of beauty is a joy forever" when I'm in the garden! It's even better when it self seeds.

    Hi Rachel. Well it is exactly that, we play outside, and if I can't, for one reason or another, I have a real tantrum 😅. Today the weather is glorious, blue sky 20⁰c and there is the anual flea market in our village. Guess what ? I found some really nice garden pots, so happy. I gave to cut back the borage and phacelia since it's falling about everwhere and although the bees are having a feast, there's only so much I can put up with. These plants get so big that they can't stand up, but I'm not worried because there are many more starting up and I have the agastache and echonops planted so those will follow. The spring was wet and cold in April then dry and cold in May. We haven't had rain now for one month, so thankfully I mulched early to keep the soil moist, so far so good. I hope now with the hot sunshine that the dahlias will grow a littke quicker, yours are gorgeous Rachel and I can't wait to see the new ones you bought. Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful garden. Happy gardening 🙋‍♀️

    • @gulfcoastbutterflygardening
      @gulfcoastbutterflygardening  Рік тому +1

      Oh, yay, Kim!!! That's amazing that you found some garden pots at the flea market! What awesome treasure! - LOL about cutting back the plants that are falling over, even though the bees were loving it! I know how you feel! That's exactly what happened while I was cutting back the salvias. The bees were following me all the way out to the road as I took the wheelbarrow to dump it out. - Wow! It's amazing that y'all can go so long without rain! Do you have to water your garden or does the thick mulch get your through until another rain shower? I have to water things almost every day, but it is probably way hotter here. It's 87 F/30 C today. Everyone's been complaining of the heat already. LOL!

    • @kimfox5186
      @kimfox5186 Рік тому

      @Gulf Coast Butterfly Gardening today was 30⁰ 😓 one extreme to the other. The mulch seems to be holding in the moisture, I check every day, and the soil really is quite wet. I also mulch the tops of the pots with grass cuttings so that I don't need to water every day. I'm keeping it going for as long as I can, but if I see a shrub suffering, I will give it a watering can full, which will keep it going for a while. I'm always surprised how grass can stop moisture from escaping. 🙃

    Wooooowwww everything has gone crazy! I love it when overabundance is a garden theme. GORGEOUS.
    I have the same problem of gravel getting too hot for the plants in the pots. I’ll have to move the succulent theatre eventually.
    Oh, your cleome! Swoon! And the kitchen window view is dreamy.
    That millet is amazing. The #1 thing in my COPY RACHEL HANDBOOK.
    I still can’t get over your dahlias. I’m going to order so many. Hooray for the new ones!
    Emery Paul is amazing!
    Lol about the Cheyenne spirit coneflower! I bought some without understanding the “orange factor”, and gave them all away to my friend with an orange and purple border. They look so lovely in her garden!
    I love the gray blue leaves. They add so much depth in the garden.
    Your garden knew my garden had a random verbena bonariensis and wanted one too!
    The bluebonnets are so wonderful! I can’t wait to mail you those seeds! Oooo, definitely throw some seeds into the gravel garden in October! And yes! They are spectacular in a field. (Google Texas bluebonnets images!)
    The Russian sage and gomphrena and coral nymph salvia together is so lovely!
    Love those geraniums! I can’t get enough. I’m loving the bright pops of lemon sedum and creeping Jenny tucked into the pots.
    That lizard looks like he bit off more than he can chew with that dragonfly! 😂😂 The look on his face is very “uh ohhh”.
    What a dreamy tour! Thank you for bringing us along my friend!

      LOL! Overabundance is my jam!!!
      I'm glad to know that your gravel also gets too hot because I thought that maybe we made a mistake when we chose the type of gravel that we have. I moved the containers off of it and everybody in the those containers is acting like they want to live again.
      The dahlias have been such a joy!!! I had no idea how much I was going to love them! I know that you are going to have some spectacular ones!!!
      HAHA about the verbena bonariensis! That's EXACTLY what happened!
      Didn't that lizard look so hilarious?!? I wished that I had more time to sit there and watch how he was going to handle it!
      Thank you so much for watching! I can't wait to see how your garden is growing!!!!!!

      Isn't it crazy how fast they have grown?!? When I plant things in containers, if it's a big container, I will put Ace potting soil in the first few inches of it, then top that with Miracle Gro potting soil, and when I dig a little hole in that to put the plants, I throw in a scoop of Osmocote Plus and mix it around. Then I water it in and as the weather warms up, I will probably water everything everyday, unless we get a good, soaking rain shower in the afternoon. - That's so exciting that you got some interesting plants at a local nursery!!! I’ve been planting out the things that have outgrown their containers and hoping that the armadillos won’t dig them up. - Have you been having trouble with your perennials during the rainy season? • @cherylramsey3409
      @cherylramsey3409 Рік тому

      @@gulfcoastbutterflygardening sometimes you they get a lot or rain very quickly. I put supports around while they are small or use single stem supports from Lowes or HD. I add a ericaceous non-nutritious bark type soilless mix (that Soilless mix helps the area drain better) homemade compost and some epsoma plant tone when I first plant anything. Also, when I put them in the ground, I make sure the crown or root ball is about an inch above the soil level to reduce the chance of the crown rotting. That way there is a little a better drainage. No not all of my perennials behave that’s why I steak many of them.
      There are some perennials that I have to treat as annuals because it is much too hot for them in zone nine. So are we buy certain varieties every year ( foxgloves, delphiniums, etc.)
      There is an action that is called a Chelsea chop. It’s usually done around the time of the British Chelsea flower show which comes the beginning of June. The British horticultural Society says that it will help perennials grow bigger and stronger. Also, they plant a lot of things closer together than we do here in the US.

    Hey Rachel! Thanks for letting me know that you water with a sprinkler. Do you fertilize each week? I can’t believe how huge your coleus are! Do you fertilize them? Thanks! Have a blessed day!

      You're welcome!!! I probably need to fertilize my roses now, but I haven't fertilized anything in a while. When I plant things in pots I use Miracle Gro potting soil and I put a scoop of Osmocote Plus in the hole for the plant and mix it around. That takes care of it until I'm ready to repot it or plant it into the ground. And when I plant things in the ground, I also throw in a scoop of Osmocote Plus and mix that around before I pop the plant in and water it in really well. - Those coleus are ones that I overwintered in my potting shed, so they have never stopped growing since last year. A few were hit by a cold snap before I sheltered them and I had to cut them back hard, but they grew back. - I hope you have been having a blessed week too!

    I've always wanted to make a garden journal,
    except with really good photos.
    Which, of coarse,
    the computer is the perfect vehicle for that!
    Except...
    I don't WANT it
    in,
    or on,
    a computer.
    I don't want to have to look at a screen for my journal.
    I want a PAPER journal,
    with computer grade pictures!
    And-
    Here's the catch:
    I don't want it to cost money to make it.
    Yep.
    Kinda feels like my requirements are holding me back on this lil' project...

      LOL!!! I understand! You want a hybrid journal! Oh! I bet you could get some photos printed for free. They always seem to be running deals for that stuff!
