- Action At Chicago and North Western Terminal, Chicago - 1959
Home movies from an anonymous railfan.
Here is the lineup:
00:26 An inbound C&NW commuter train with bi-level cars. Power is provided by an EMD F unit (likely an F7).
00:56 A Chicago “EL” train passes over the terminal tracks.
01:07 An outbound C&NW passenger train led by an F7.
Built in 1911, Chicago and North Western Terminal served as the Chicago terminal for all C&NW intercity and commuter trains until May 1, 1971, when Amtrak moved all remaining intercity passenger trains from C&NW Terminal and other Chicago stations to Union Station. Since 1971, the station has served as the terminus for C&NW, and later many Metra commuter routes. The terminal was extensively refurbished in the 1990’s and is now known as the Ogilvie Transportation Center.
