I used to love the sound of these maico 490 flying down the gravel roads at Anglesea in the 70s we were riding montessa
Those graphics are sick with the 3d spider. Well done.
I had a 81 Maico mega II 250 I wish I still had it, loved it.
I've only rode one maico 490 in my whole life and I absolutely loved it they're such awesome bikes
This is exactly why I love this channel. You can't guess what you're going to see next.
I don't know if I want to watch this channel anymore! Makes me feel older everytime. Reason being, I used to ride those big bore bikes of that era! Husky 490 inclusive!
The beast!!! One of the "Magnifique"bikes ever!!bravo!!!👏👏👏😀
Richard👍😎🇫🇷🏁
I never knew this bike existed! It’s a truly amazing machine! Looks, moves and sounds amazing!
yesssss! i love it when you bring on the ol' german dinosaurs! 🇩🇪 everything about a maico is very unique compared to other bikes, the sound, feel, even that 2 cycle stank! growing up riding the Metacomet trails, I remember some guy on the Meriden side of Higby Mountain had a 501, I could hear him coming a mile away! BTW excellent restoration and graphics, she's a beauty!
, absolutely, ~ AmAziNg ~ historical piece of realist Motocross ! Stunning !
✌🏻❤️🙏🏻
Christy killed the graffics well done legendz!
This is the best channel for 'Two stroke Enthusiasts', i start my day binge watching you ripping those smokers. Absolutely love your energy and obsession with 2 strokes.
Really good looking machine.Love those white letter hoosiers! In the 70s when I rode if you seen 1 of these out in the dunes you knew it was a serious rider. Most of us had enduros because we had to use our bikes for transportation. Nice graphics too.
Wow Ken. Didn't think it could get any better than your 490 video. Mega machine. 🏍🏴🏴🏴 🎅
Love the sound of that bike.
2 strokes. Nothing quite like them.
Love the old 2 strokes.
Looks & sounds just amazing.
Growing up, around '74 my friend had a Maico 400, that bike could make its own trails. This brings back memories. very cool.
Raced 125’s when I was young. For fun I’d take my dad’s 79 450 Maico, had a huge wrap around Chen Ching tire on the rear and I was 14-15 years old and that bike didn’t even know my 145 lb ass was on it! God damn that was a fun time! Raced a borrowed 495 KTM on a Sunday that my 125 was broke down. I really liked the 83 or 84? 500 Honda.
Damnnnnn, thats badass!!!!! Easily in my top faves of bikes youve had! 👍👍
Easy top 5 most badass dirt bikes I've seen on your channel.
What a chunk of Dino doo!! Maico man for days 501 !
Sounds and looks awesome!
If you ever want to part with one of your blue & yellow '90s models Toby, let me know too!
If you ever want to part with one of you blue & yellow '90s models Toby, let me know too!
What a wild bike. Amazing sound.
😍
Beautiful. Kaplan is the best narrator/ sales man. I tried to ride one of the 490's when I was 10. I was afraid of 2 strokes for until I was 13. Beautiful bike though guys.
The most wicked bike I've ever seen. My life's dream has now become to someday own this bike!
When I visit the North East I am going to this bike shop/museum, Caplan has the best looking stuff.
We see always beautiful machines on your channel! Thanks 🤙
Air-cooled big bores are so light and sleek with no rads or shrouds. Very cool
WOW What a bike love the graphics !!!
Never heard of these until your video. What a wicked bike.
Absolutely stunning!!
You are living the dream SR. Would love to feel that power at the dunes. Love the videos. Happy Holidays to you and your family from Utah.
The upsidedown forks and the unitrak out back really make this ole beast a force to be reckoned with in 2021! With a decent big bore rider a guy could rule the vintage class without a doubt! Even compete against today's bikes! When I was young I always loved it when Motocross Action or Dirt Bike did a Maico shootout! They were exotic and totally cool factory type works bikes out of the box! Keep em coming y'all!!
You couldn't race this bike in vintage class, the upside down forks weren't stock, and it originally had a "barely able to stop it" drum brake on the front.
You can't make mods like that and enter it in vintage class.
That's one HELL OF A BIKE 👊 👍.. Memorable Fellas .. 😉 Thnx Guy's
For sure one of the coolest bikes around.
Stop, drop, and listen!!! Can you hear it!!!
That big bore sound is music!!!!
Keep em coming Kap!!!
Love the entire bike total gem!
Priceless machine.
Another sick bike. I gotta get out to your shop.
Got a chance to see one of these in the early 80's.
Me on my newish Cr 125 outside of Carlsbad New Mexico in the sand dunes.
Guy aboard was a good bit older than us but he could ride like hell!
Ate lots of sand that day running with him.
Looks good w the black & just the shape runs great 👍
Had a Sand Spider.
Absolute fire road flat track king...
Such a sweet power band, it pulled like a tractor and spun the knob like a windmill in any gear.
No bike could stay with it, I also had a CR 500 later which was indeed similar but came later. Love the big bore two strokes!
Wow...love these bikes.
Ran these back in the day....fucking beast that ate all comers..
Maico is the Icoon!! The sound is so Nice! And only Maico has that !!
Love the bike !!
This bike makes me feel better
Beautiful bike!! Some lucky bugger is going to own this!! 👍🏻

Total badass machine.
I had a 440 enduro with working lights back in the day up there when you could still ride the powerlines. Good times

There's just something about a Hoosier tire that makes me feel all warm inside
Bing Bing Bing Bong! sounds like a 490 killer Steiger Widow key hin say o me sand mountain x-mas thank you
VERY nice unit, do a special of the 490.
Who needs a Stark- electric bike if you can have a Sound like this??🤣🤣
You can't get any better than this bike here. The best open class bike ever built then with the USD forks , an Onlins rear shock and air cooled simplicity. How can that be topped ?
Way cool, those things come on hard. I love that , gonna wrap my cr 250 in black & red, this just confirms it.
We did a black and red 250 cr and a 500 afx check the videos out fir inspiration
@@KaplanCycles As if i haven’t already? ( been a subscriber for a yr ) LOL! Yes beautiful bikes…I love your USA cr 500 af, freakin monster! I have gotten the frame back from powder coaters, i have a cr 96’ cr 250r doing complete Wiseco engine rebuild. Will have to bore, .66-.70 over. I have a black & red wrap in mind. Would share pics when done this spring
That sounds like my Factory race Can-Am MX 500 with the The Rotax Type 486, that was the best engine in the early eighties. That Maico first one I saw on your videos in action that sounds like it! I believe you put some money into that Honda to get it to compete. The kicking on mine was TDC and hit it hard, it would start right up. If you kicked it any other way, watch out! When I stood in back of mine, felt the back pressure from the exhaust about six feet away. I had to watch out going from soft dirt to hard or the front end would flip right over if it grabbed.
I remember the article in a motocross mag when the 501 hit the tracks. If you can handle the power and price you ll never look at anyone's tailpipe
I ve followed your channel for a year or so because you have the most awesome collection of motocross bikes and th
e ones from back in my day of riding. In my opinion the 70' s - 90 s saw the finest motocross bikes and I m talking big bore two strokes. You have every one and I think that's awesome. Thank you for preserving a great part of history by finding, acquiring and restoring when necessary the bikes ridden by my generation of racers like Roger Decoster,
Brad Lackey, Bob Hannah and Joel Roberts just to name a few. There are many more not excluding racers from recent years.
I want to see your 500 GasGas conversion soon as it's finished.
Again thanks for your commitment to motocross and sharing the videos of bikes in your collection.
Would love to get my hands on one of those big bore 2 strokers, they're all big ballsy power!
My first bike was a Husqvarna 430xc
with an extra long swing arm, dual öhlins shocks. Bike was way to much for me as a first. I regret selling it to this day.
That Maico is sick!
Beautiful
That thing is sick!
I grew up with the sound of then the guy next door made a motor cross track in his garden and would take me on the back pulling wheelies ..
Sick video 📹, u guys 👦 are the best 👌
I remember riding a new Suzuki RM250 back in ‘91. My shoulder blades ached for a week. I dread to think what a Maico 490 would do to me…😂
Great vid i owned a maico 490 83 or84 back in the90s weapon of a bike fast too 😀 👍
I bought an brand new 490 Alpha E back in the good old days, It was a cold blooded monster but once poked into life it it was a screening demon, At the time I changed from it to a CanAm Sonic for some early 4 stroke racing
I gota give it to you guys the bikes you have on here are truly special I'm not easy to impress and every video I see of yours are literally awesome some of the best if not the best bikes on UA-cam! keep doing what you lot do 👍merry Christmas 🎄
Sick ticket !!!
That seems like a cool bike.
Totally badass bike! 😎👊
I hope u get to read this Ken. Your the reason I got back into bikes twenty years ago I had a 86cr250 I sold it due to what happened in my life. When I came across u on UA-cam and kept watching you were the reason I found my passion again. And for that I am so grateful God bless u Ken. I wish u and your family the world of happiness and blessings. Your biggest Irish fan Keith.
Thank you Keith, you made my day.
