The number One album of all time. McCartney gives us the greatest vocal variety and range that nobody else can. King of melody, King of arrangement, King of lyrics, King of vocals, player of any instrument. There is no aspect of songwriting he doesn't cater to. No aspect of vocalising he can't handle; pitch perfect, tone variety is amazing, and yet he maintains his natural foundation tone when ever needed, perfect sense of harmony, backs the story line vocally better than anyone, he can scream, growl, holler, croon, adlib, emulate anyone and almost anything, his vocal power is limitless. No one compiles as many sections to a song without losing context as he. There is not one flaw in this man's example, except his lead guitar sounds in some cases. Otherwise Sir Paul McCartney is the perfect, flawless secular example musically in this fortunate world of ours and I wouldn't be surprised if he holds this mantle for the next hundred years.
I love "Oh Darling". As it starts you're thinking it's just gonna be kind of a fun little 50s/retro tribute kind of tune but when that chorus kicks in and he unleashes that voice on "When you told me...." you're like DAAAAAMN

it’s not gone! Just aged, with more rasp. I mean how many singers these days can do , or will do a 3 hour concert! Except Taylor Swift. Fans still enjoy and flock to his concerts which are always sold out. One song I think he should replace in his show is “Maybe I’m Amazed”. He can do it but the strain is noticeable. I saw him twice in CA , 2 different shows. In one show he sounded ok., but pretty raspy. The next show I felt he was too screamy, and he sounded like when someone is holding their Emotions in or trying not to cry, It’s possible he is I mean it was written for Linda , the love of his life for 30 years of marriage until her death. But then in each concert both nights he belted out “Helter Skelter”and sounded fantastic! The rest of the songs were great! He sounded very emotional when he sang the song he wrote for John Lennon “ I think it’s “Hear Today” People in the aaudience were crying and it sounded like he was choking back tears. The guy is going to be 82 this June ! So he deserves a little break. Love him !
Absolutely incredible and the entire "Ram" album is filled with great songs you might check out "Backseat of my car" or "Uncle Albert Admiral Halsey" or an incredible song called "Dear Boy" about Linda's prior husband and an amazing song!!
Monkberry Moon Delight is a “fantasy milkshake” he made up for his kids. Paul had the most range (7 octaves?) and the most diverse voice of most, if not all, singers at the time. RAM is my favorite album… The Backseat of My Car, Dear Boy and Too Many People are epic tracks!
You know, it's interesting because there was this song called Say Say Say, I don't know if you remember that but it was a duet with Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson (they did several songs together in fact but Say Say Say is the only one that had a music video of them together), anyways, Michael Jackson had written most of the lyrics and Paul added some of his own lyrics and the music video is about a miracle potion that, when you drink it, gives you amazing super human strength lol and Mockberry Moon Delight is a fantasy milkshake lol.. So yeah, that's probably not coincidence. Maybe Paul came up with the drink idea in Say Say Say too.
To answer your question, McCartney’s kids used to say monk instead of milk when they were very young. So Paul ran with that and dreamed up Monkberry Moon Delight. Paul says if it’s anything, it’s a milkshake.
A pretty song from this era (1971), recorded at the same time as "Ram", but sold as a single is "Another Day", a beautifully upbeat song with sad lyrics
I can't believe my old Man gave me this LP for my 7th Birthday . I played this record about 500times the first month I had it !!!! I'm still affected by it !!!!!!!! This piece is harder than Straight outta Compton !!!!

That was so enjoyable. But I would also say he's been doing this since the very beginning. Check him out doing the Little Richard cover Long Tall Sally which has quite a history behind it which I just can't go into right now. So then when he was in his twenties in the beatles, I mean I'm sure you've heard some of him doing that like Helter Skelter and oh darling, but really he had so many. We think about him as the sweetest of the sweet with yesterday and just beautiful love songs like that but really, check out me and my monkey. Check out you say it's your birthday. And yeah this was early on in his solo career but also I would say Maybe I'm Amazed which is a much more genteel song but nonetheless ends up shredding his vocal chords later in it.
The lyrics are so obscure and playful. There was an old kids joke about the tomato family walking and the kid tomato lagging behind and after too many times telling him to walk faster the daddy goes back and stomps on him and says "Catch Up"! (Ketchup). So, ketchup, soup and puree? Some other lyrics are references to things related to his kids, but mostly very clever and obviously fit the song. I always loved this song, his vocal performance was out of this world.
I love that you find this song so mind-blowing. I think it is too. It's Paul McCartney at his best. And you said you haven't heard a ton of Beatles songs. Wow. Go listen to them. not song by song, but by album for album. And then listen to the album again. And again. Then you'll discover so many gems. Especially the lesser-known ones, like Martha My Dear, Rocky Raccoon, For no one, Here, there and Everywhere, and so on and on and on and on etc. They are A-MA-ZING!
What I love about the former Beatles' solo work is that what we're hearing is what The Beatles would have been putting out had they stayed together (more or less), given that they were all writing separately long before they ever broke up.
In a recent interview clip on Sirius XM radio's Beatles Channel, Paul said that he decided to channel his inner Screaming Jay Hawkins when singing Monkberry Moon Delight. Actually Screaming Jay Hawkins did a great cover of Monkberry Moon Delight which is available right here on UA-cam.

Thanks for the lyrics! I didn't know how crazy they were since I was blown away by Paul's voice & wasn't interested in what he was singing about. Now I know and it makes even more sense the way he sings it. Monkberry Moon Delight, whatever they were smokin', must have been strong stuff!
@@sarahfullerton6894 yeah, I don't know where these lyrics come from. It's also 'what do your stars conceal in a barrel' per the Ram song book. Awesome song either way.
Paul McCartney, John Lennon, and Stevie Wonder are three mind-blowing singers and composers who recorded one golden track after another in the 60s and 70s.
This is a rare one. Even lots of McCartney fans never heard this & some who have never mention it but I love it. I've never heard it on the radio even once since 1971. I like this album way better than anything Paul did after.
Paul was a fan of Screaming Jay Hawkins & Little Richard. I've read one version where the song mocked the Beatles early days when they imitated Little Richard's & Hawkins vocals. thus the different screams and whoops heard in the song. The entire album "RAM" is pure genius! Thx for playing the music!!

There are several listings of the lyrics in this song. Some say it says.'Ketchup".... Soup and Puree". That makes no sense followed with "Don't Get Left Behind" The lyric is "Catch Up, Super Fury", Just as it sounds. :Smoking, Monkberry Moon Delight"..... "Suckin' monkberry moon delight" is what you do with a pipe. Much like John denied "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" was about LSD/Acid for obvious reasons. Paul made up alternative reasons not wanting the critics to know it is written about some Home Grown Cannabis. Super Fury was a strain they grew before Monkberry, and the Monkberry was much better stuff, so the lyric that the super fury had to catch up or get left behind. That is the story I heard shortly after the album was released from credible sources and makes the most sense. "Try some of this honey, What is it? "Monkberry Moon Delight" is not talking about Ketchup, soup or puree. But, only Paul knows for certain.
I don't think much more on his Ram album comes close to this. You might try Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five from Band on the Run. Helter Skelter, with the Beatles, is probably the closest thing he did to this in the Beatles.
Remember that strange quirky wild eyed fella that hops around the stage playing his freakish Flute?… sure you do, you know the guy. You rode aboard his Locomotive Breath with Aqualung…. This should be added to their play list…..Jethro Tull - My God (Nothing Is Easy - Live At The Isle Of Wight 1970)
JMBOY, you should also react to Paul's vocals on "OH WOMAN OH WHY" and in the Beatles Paul's vocals on "HELTER SKELTER," "OH DARLING," and these LIVE videos from his 1976 Wings Over America tour: "MAYBE I'M AMAZED," ""CALL ME BACK AGAIN," "BEWARE MY LOVE, " "BAND ON THE RUN," just to name a few where he doesn't sing they way you are used to hearing him with softer, silkier, smoother vocals. He can really shred his vocal chords, scream and sing with grit. He has amazing vocal abilities and range. (BY the way, that is his wife LINDA doing the backing vocals. She sings with him on the entire "RAM" album.
JMBOY? great song selections to react to. McCartney was off the charts talented- he played almost everything instrument on this album. Pull up, also from this album (Ram), "Too Many People". And if you really want to be a trailblazer among the reactors, pull up the Concert For Kampuchea from 1979. Specifically react to the Little Richard cover of Lucille- it'll blow you away. McCartney can belt out the screamers. No less than 20 musicians on stage for that number by the way.
I loved Paul's first few solo albums (I liked John's even more), but the critics really savaged Paul's solo stuff because his lyrics tended to be frothy or even nonsensical. This is a pretty good example of what they were talking about.
I never took any of the critics seriously who "savaged" some of Paul's solo stuff because they tended to be the same ones who praised The Beatles lyrically "frothy" and "nonsensical" songs. The majority of solo Paul has received far more positive reviews than negative ones, anyway. The problem was that some critics, like misguided fans, blamed John and Yoko while others blamed Paul for The Beatles breakup and used their reviews as a means to vent their frustrations. Paul's mega solo success made him an even bigger target with disgruntled critics than Lennon who was also no stranger to criticism. The biased, exaggerated reviews were thinly disguised personal attacks rather than being about the actual art.
"Smoking Monkberry moon delight"..... It is safe to say it is a plant product that Paul grew on his Farm..... The kind of plant that causes Paul to "Scream"..."Try some of this honey, What is it? "Monkberry Moon Delight"
It’s not click bait at all. I am literally referencing what I talked about in my “analysis”. I said I wouldn’t recognize his voice. Therefore it is a play on that concept.

@@RandomPau I heard years ago Paul and Linda had Green Thumbs and grew some killer Buds.
only one error here in the lyrics, it's not "Super Fury" (I know it SOUNDS like it), but "SOUP and PUREE"
@@patticrichton1135 , well, it says "super fury" in the lyrics on the album, so...
@@sarahfullerton6894 yeah, I don't know where these lyrics come from. It's also 'what do your stars conceal in a barrel' per the Ram song book. Awesome song either way.
Magical McCartney such an incredible vocal range no doubt about it! gotta give one of my fave tracs from Ram a mention!!Eat at Home"!!!
Quel titre !!!!!!!! soit disant McCartney au plus bas après les beatles d'après les critiques musicaux de l'époque. Des experts.........
A favorite by Paul right after Beatles broke up.
Well, not right after since this is off his 2nd album "Ram".
I must Spark Up My Pipe for this little "Delight"
Paul was a fan of Screaming Jay Hawkins & Little Richard. I've read one version where the song mocked the Beatles early days when they imitated Little Richard's & Hawkins vocals. thus the different screams and whoops heard in the song. The entire album "RAM" is pure genius! Thx for playing the music!!
If you want to further explore his range check out songs like Temporary Secretary
Does anyone doubt the entire band was thoroughly Baked when they recorded this little.tune.
I'm pretty sure Paul didn't have a band yet at this point; he did all the parts himself.
So I sat in the attic, a piano up my nose
And the wind played a dreadful cantata (cantata, cantata)
Sore was I from a crack of an enemy's hose
And the horrible sound of tomato (tomato, tomato)
Catch up (catch up)
Soup & Puree
Don't get left behind (get left behind)
Catch up (catch up)
Soup & Puree
Don't get left behind (get left behind, get left behind, get left behind)
When a rattle of rats had awoken
The sinews, the nerves and the veins
My piano was boldly outspoken
In attempts to repeat this refrain
So I stood with a knot in my stomach
And I gazed at that terrible sight
Of two youngsters concealed in a barrel
Suckin' monkberry moon delight (om pah om pah pah) ho
Monkberry moon delight (om pah om pah pah)
Monkberry moon delight (om pah om pah pah)
Monkberry moon delight (om pah om pah pah)

Oh
Well, I know my banana is older than the rest
And my hair is a tangled beretta (beretta, beretta)
But I leave my pajamas to billy budapest
And I don't get the gist of your letter (your letter, your letter)

What agreat analysis.
Shout out to Linda on this track (and album too)!
Paul has said the kids in England called milk " monk ". He says Monkberry moon delight is basically a " milkshake "
I told you...........amazing.
That is Linda in the background, but the rest of this is all Paul.
Linda was so good on this song
❤
Remember that strange quirky wild eyed fella that hops around the stage playing his freakish Flute?… sure you do, you know the guy. You rode aboard his Locomotive Breath with Aqualung…. This should be added to their play list…..Jethro Tull - My God (Nothing Is Easy - Live At The Isle Of Wight 1970)

Recorded at home on a couple of 4 track tape recorders
And that’s Linda McCartney on backup vocals. His beloved wife died of breast cancer in the 90’s. 😢
1998
JMBOY? great song selections to react to.
And I don't get the gist of your letterrrrr... such a great line 😊
Paul's kids always called milk, "monk".
Sucking, not smoking.
@@Archipelington Both are used... About smoking with their Pipe.
The album is great, but his Band on the Run album is superior. The Band on the Run album received a Grammy for best album.
If you loved this.. Check song called "1985"
A song to John Lennon during their feud in the early 70's
It’s a milkshake.
Monkberry Delight was a strain of marijuana.
JM, you belong on a MLB Team, with as many HOME RUNS you are hitting.
Screamin jay hawkins did this before Paul McCartney and it’s all good.
If one smokes enough of it they just make make a song like this about the experience. It's not a flavor of Bubble Gum.
Is this before you listened to the Beatles?
это кто такой, что оценивает Маккартни?!!
"who is he" You know why are you posting that click bait? it's not like you.
It’s not click bait at all. I am literally referencing what I talked about in my “analysis”. I said I wouldn’t recognize his voice. Therefore it is a play on that concept.
@@JMBOYTV gotcha i enjoy your channel btw
was a fantasy milkshake try jrs farm
In a recent interview clip on Sirius XM radio's Beatles Channel, Paul said that he decided to channel his inner Screaming Jay Hawkins when singing Monkberry Moon Delight.
Actually Screaming Jay Hawkins did a great cover of Monkberry Moon Delight which is available right here on UA-cam.
