Prince was no dummy. He kept her playing in his band after all those years...because he knew she was super talented and had a name. And stage presence. The baddest chick that ever touched a drum set!
There has never been a hotter drummer than this woman in the history of the instrument. Everytime I see her perform it takes me back to being 10yrs old in 84 and i get chills and stare like a child. Shes amazing.
Sheila E is a CLASS ACT! She recently came to Memphis and performed w/out The Time who cancelled. Her talent and time were appreciated. While in Memphis, she visited kids at St. Jude Children's Hospital and brought gifts to them. What a lady!
Only Sheila E. could pull off wearing an evening gown while murdering drums lol. She's always been such a badass lady and I've always loved her. I've yet to wrap my head around the fact of never seeing her perform with Prince again. His passing has left a huge empty hole in my soul. I always knew I loved him, I just never knew how much until now. Damn. just damn.
Sheila E was giving her hometown fans in Oakland a special treat. It's so sexy to see a beautiful woman like that with "REAL" talent, playing instruments, singing and all. That Prince is a lucky man. He's been with some very beautiful women, including Sheila E.
@@saambaya you know that Sheila E was the only person in this world that could have saved PRINS from his drug abuse, he died in misery all by himself, I STILL can't believe that his staff left him, they all knew what AND was going on SHEILA WOULD HAVE BEEN BY HIS SIDE, TO FIND HELP SHEILA I LOVE YOU!! Im reading her life story "The Beat Of My Own Drum". She went through a lot as a young child. But finally she was later blessed to have some happiness and success. Love her.
Her drum performances are spiritual! She is overcome when she plays. She is amazing and one who has always remained classy over the years. Love it! She just gets better with time. You definitely see the Prince influence even in her mannerisms.
The Bay Area's musical lineage is blessed with the Escovedo blood and when Prince moved to Marin, he was taken in by their family and introduced to a whole world of Latin rhythm and groove. I remember this concert and the amazing victory tour vibe. Every night he brought local music legends like Sheila E. and Carlos Santana out to share the stage with him. He played so long that but for Oakland and Alameda County ordinances, I thought he'd never stop. (He literally broke the law by playing so long into the night) It was incredible and infectious. Thank you for that.
Prince have found talented singers that made an impact on our lives. Shelia E is a perfect example of it. Prince will live on through his music and through the talent of his discovery. thank you for the music Prince. you will be missed!
I am so fortunate I was at this concert!!! I love Sheila E.! She is truly an amazing unique musician & a wonderful & strong woman. And Prince will live on 4ever in our hearts his music will never die. Thank you for your inspiration Sheila, & Prince.
I was there at this concert . I was there with a friend that I now think of with any prince song that I hear. Was the best concert I have ever been to, very talented and very glad I got to go with my friend♡ We have since tried to see him again but every single show sold out! Within seconds, so this show will be the last memory of our concert days♡
Classic!!! People need to understand, the youth today...Sheila E is bad, she ad Prince are artists who actually play REAL INSTRUMENTS. She's bad! Few if any have anything on her. This is class. Feminine strength with no need to be other than a lady. LOVE HER. Prince and Shiela E, excellence!!!

+Eve's Girls Could NOT POSSIBLY agree with you MORE!!!
Neil Peart is a drumming god...and while I might get some backlash from this, I'd like to say that Sheila E is a drumming goddess. May they both forever live on as legends of their craft.
In high school, our band director would not let girls play the drum. He said that girls didn't have enough stamina. I wonder if he later saw Sheila E. in action & felt a rush of guilt.
Very good question and my guess is, if he was that far gone then...he didn't feel a thing, or shut it off, even. He could have fought the school policy (or his own)--he was the adult in the room. My drum teacher (a man) and me (a girl) would only teach me during his lunch period. He'd eat, have long conversations with other adults who came into the room, and taught me next to nothing--seriously. It has taken me until now, age 54, for me to get comfortable with my percussion instruments. With the help of a great cassette tape (ironically, for children) that goes from simple rhythms to more and more complex ones, it's made drumming almost as easy as pie.
I wonder if you later saw the real drummer in the song playing most of the drum parts behind Sheila E. in action & felt a rush of guilt for not realizing who's making all those sounds.
PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW THAT SHE,S BEEN AROUND SINCE THE 70,S BACKING ALOT OF JAZZ AND FUSION MUSICIANS LONG BEFORE SHE MET PRINCE BY , THE WAY TO - PRINCE - R I P- BROTHER YOU MADE ALOT OF PEOPLE HAPPY WITH YOUR MUSIC . AND BEST WISHES TO HIS FAMILY.
For those of us who grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area we know this and more. Close in age to her. Before backing all of those other musicians she would play with her father as a teenager. Saw them play together many times. They even did an album together. Check it out if you can find it.
Not over playing, not over bearing, hitting every note in every space needed. Knowing exactly when and when not to hot the xymbal to let the song sound good, A disciplined drummer.
I love this woman. No broken high heels nor lost earrings! And still looks amazing! Thank you Prince for including her in the women whose careers you kickstarted.

There used to be a club/bar on Lakeshore Ave. in Oakland run by her father Pete Escovedo. I think it was called "E". Sheila E. used to perform there on occasion. The family are natives of the East Bay area.

Jerri Robertson she was a famous percussionist and session musician long before she met Prince though he did help catapult her solo career
Sheila E was a working musician before her connection with Prince; the connection was useful but she didn't need "discovering!"
Was there a romantic connection between them? If so, I wonder if she would have been the one for him. I always thought Mayte was too immature for him.
Prince didn't discover her... She has been around for much longer and her mentor was the King of Percussion the Late Tito Puente 🇵🇷
@@jackielromero They did date. I just made a similar comment recently on another video, that I wish they could have made it as a couple.
