This my friend Gary Mullen from Glasgow, Scotland and his band The Works on his latest sensational tour of the USA. I have known Gary and his family from Carnwadric in Glasgow since he was born. Gary is the greatest Freddie Mercury performer in the world, he brings Freddie back to life and his band The Works are Queen live on stage.
Gary by far. He has the voice, the moves AND the showmanship. Marc really just has the voice (and it's a bit too nicey-nicey to be convincingly 'Freddie').
I've seen both Gary and Marc live and they both are very good, but also bring something different to the table. Marc has the best vocal range for sure and can be basically pitch perfect throughout a whole set but... It's not queen as i know and feel it! It's too stale and polished for me personally. Gary on the other hand may not get all the high notes 100% of the time but when he hits that sweet spot in the set (and he always does) you can literally close your eyes and believe that... Cont
The BEST Mercury’s interpret hands down!The voice,the moves,he has everything...first time I saw him,i was blown away how good he was...I’m so happy that he performs with that band,although original Queen still plays live shows...my secret wish was that he joins with original members but Brian and Roger wanted something different...
I'm only 16 and these guys are playing near me soon but its a 18 plus concert. Pretty dissapointed because this guy sounds just like freddie, would've loved to see them live.

Marc is an excellent singer, but his vibrato is nothing like Freddie's, and Freddie's vibrato is crucial to the music. Gary is sooooooo close. Marc never hits a wrong note, but he sounds like the best singer from your high school concert choir, and he just lacks that "edge."

The thing that helps Gary is he has that British accent! Marc Martel still sounds the most like Freddie, if martel had this guys body and would do the moves Freddie used to do!! You'd literally have Freddie
Don't agree, sorry. Marc's voice is technicality very good (better than Gary's I'd say) but he lacks the emotion and rawness of Freddie's. Gary achieves it through his sheer showmanship. Marc's singing leaves me feeling a bit flat.
I love marc martel as an artist not just because he's got a voice that's very similar to freddie and george michael but his song writing is brilliant and his piano playing etc. But i'll be honest this gary mullen dude is probably a better performer. Not that marc martel isn't a great performer but mullen struts round like freddie did. :)
I think Marc would be fine with that. His goal is to sound like the records, Gary's whole thing is to give you the live concert experience from the 70s and 80s.
Stephen Gent Very true -- I'm sure even Gary would agree. BUT, he's better to see live than no performances at all. We all have the videos and we know what you're saying, but I think someone who is trying to keep the spirit alive in performing the music as true as one can is doing a lot.
Gary sings ALL the high notes all the time. If you watch old Freddie footage, there was a lot of times that he would sing lower notes with Roger Taylor singing the top notes. Elton, Billy... lots of people do this on tour to save their voice for night after night of touring. I only notice Gary going for all the high notes.

Try doing a full set hitting all the notes without backing singers doing the high notes for you - love Freddie but he didn't attempt the high stuff every time - Gary does a brilliant job - creates a great atmosphere and deserves praise

Gary Mullen does a brilliant job while creating a fantastic atmosphere - negotiator007 the video has not been edited or enhanched - Freddie himself accepted the help of backing singers to hit the more demanding notes
Don't be unfair. This guy sings nice af. He does impersonate Freddie's ways of walking the stage and singing. He was rarely out of tune this guy and his range is incredible
