ElsaSTI I have the 2015 launch edition. And I feel the same I'm keeping it till they change the engine hopefully 2020. I'm just worried when then new engine comes out its going to drop the value on our cars.
ElsaSTI lol, you probably not getting a new sti because you want that 2018 Kia Stinger GT with twin turbo RWD, AWD drivetrain. Or the 2018 Hyundai G80 sport Twin turbo, with same drivetrain opitions as the stinger.
Honestly the EJ 257 is the reason I want an STi so badly. I love the rumble and power is so easily achievable through aftermarket parts, and not to mention it is a joy to work on your own car. The killing of the 'subie rumble" with the FA motor will deter many people in my opinion, or make them scramble for aftermarket UEL headers.
+Will Ackerman I love the rumble, but I'd take the lack of mean sound for better performance which comes with equal length. It's just better for the performance of the car. I can live with that.
Aftermarket UEL headers essentially won't be an option without swapping out the turbo to a standard (single scroll) turbine and re-plumbing the exhaust and charge piping as needed, since the twin scroll turbo requires equally spaced exhaust pulses. That will destroy the low end torque characteristic desired by most people who choose a WRX over an STI.
You do realize that the twin scroll gives you much better boost response and low end. Ive owned both and the newer Wrx's have way better low end torque. It hits boost at 2500RPMs. Obviously stock numbers the Sti has more torque but that is measured at peak further into the RPM range and not really indicative of how they "feel" when going 0 to whatever. just sayin..
You're absolutely right when it comes to me. I bought a '17 WRX knowing full well I wouldn't touch it. One of my employees was asking me how soon I'd get an exhaust and I told him "as soon as I buy a subie without the FA motor. It just sounds like piss with any kind of exhaust, my SRT4 sounded better for crying out loud.
Eh man, Some valid points I think pretty much everyone's in the same situation wanting an updated Engine for the STI from the EJ.. mehhhh.. Loving my WRX :D
NinjaxBart if the sti gets the fa20 I will lose all respect for the sti. I'm pretty sure Subaru is going to have a all new engine maybe a fa25. I would like to see a 6 boxer engine tho. I bet it will have 350hp to 375hp. they won't let ford get alway to ez
thats retareded, Subaru will most likely use the fa20 and keep it a 2.0 for the 2020 model.... they might just add a hybrid system for extra low end and slightly bigger turbo for the top end.
The STi was always a 2.0 liter in Japan anyways idk why people think the next STi is going to be 400+hp its going to be north of 50k and no one will buy it.
ElsaSTI - much respect for your quality videos. I was in the market to buy a 2019 STI this year. Watching your videos helped me pull the trigger. I didn’t want to miss out on the hydraulic steering, rumble, and the gray.series color. My local Subie community in FL seems to hate the color, but non Subie owners love it. I was going to wait for the 2021+ STI, but I was scared to lose all the things you love about ElsaSTI. I also gave up on finding my unicorn 2016 S4, after I realized that driving a manual S4 didn’t feel as connected to the road as the STI. Life is short, and I can always buy another car - but you can’t fix regret for not buying what was available.
You are right about the 19 inch wheels, at first i thought it did not suit the car. But after owning my 2018 i can say it will defiantly grow on you now the 2015-17 models look weird to me.
Totally agree, in 2012 I bought a WRX. Last month I traded it in on a 2017 STI. When 36 month lease is up, I'll be ready for the new and improved (power) sti. And I would mind a paddle shift auto if properly done.
I agree. I have had a 2005, a 2010, and now, a 2015 which, I use for my daily driver. It needs an better trans, better brakes, and yes, definitely more power. I also like the rumble ( I have the sport exhaust system), but I will give some of that for another 50 horse power under warranty.
ElsaSTI is one of my favorite channels, I agree with all of your points. I am a used car buyer, a low mile 2016 STI would fit my needs. Not sure if the big loan of MY2020 is worth 25 more BHP with +7MPG.
+CyberrJunky I'm hoping it will be another 45-65 BHP and bump in torque. ☺️ It's time for the STi platform to evolve past the 257, I look forward to that day; but I'll enjoy my EJ257 as long as I have one. Thanks for the love! 💯
My 1995 Sti-RA is still the REAL benchmark. The newer cars are 'nice' but for the essence of what the STI was, you can't go past the rawness and feedback an original lightweight RA gives you.
Definitely some valid points, I agree if you already have an sti from 2015-17 it would be a waste to get another one. Me on the other hand, I don't own a WRX or an sti, I will be getting one in September, I really want an sti, but with my wedding coming up, a 2018 sti is out of the question, but if I can score a deal for a 2017 leftover, without a doubt that is what I will be getting, if not WRX it is.
I think you're wrong here on some of your comments about the platform taking more "power" because you failed to take the time to address the fact that they just switched to a new "Global" platform for their vehicles. The WRX will eventually move to the new platform that is housing the 2018 Impreza. This platform hasn't been tested for 300+ HP That we are aware of.
i like the fact the sti became so popular in the last 2 years. is the new honda si. subarus every where everytime o all streets with extra loud exhaust , tinted taillights, and big stickers : love it!!!
I think you're mistaken about the DCCD being 'fully electronic'. As far as I can tell, it's still sending power front to rear in a default torque split of 41:59 at all times, in other words it still has a planetary gear set full-time engaged in transferring power from the engine to the rear (and not part-time like in the Focus RS / Golf R). The center diff had two limited slip differentials inside of it- a mechanical cam-actuated unit that would engage from the simple transfer of weight from the front to the rear during acceleration, and an electronically controlled multiplate clutch that is controlled (in part) by the DCCD knob. The 2018 just got rid of the mechanical cam-actuated LSD and left only the electronically controlled multiplate clutch behind, presumably with better software or whatever to make it respond faster and smoother. Also, your comment about the chassis being tweaked and tuned - the next gen STI will ride on the SGP (Subaru Global Platform), their new modular platform which is 100% stiffer and has 50% less body roll than the BASE chassis from which the VA is derived.
Respect your point of view. You look smart but you're talking like you have the 2002 sti. It would be very unwise to upgrade from a 16 to an 18 when they're so close to upgrading the whole package. On the 19" wheel remark, guess what? I have the 2018 and the smaller wheels look weird to me. They actually still have about an inch of clearance from the body and the rim design is so awsome. Good luck and keep up the videos. Thanks.
Me 2, I'm not buying a new STi until it gets the new engine, in February I bought a Ford RS and I'm loving it but I will trade back to STi when it has the new motor
If 2018 is he last years for the current motor then that will be my sti I want. I’m not in it for overall power, the motor is part of the experience that makes the sti what it is. It’s always been a dream car of mine and I will own one.
The WRX is like the Test subject they will improve on the FA20DIT before they throw it into the STI. More than likely they'll correct the issues with the rods and slap the STI transmission on the FA since it bolts right up. The weak point of the WRX Fa20dit after it's built Is the transmission so if you slap that sti transmission it will hold a lot more power
1. Better exterior design, not a try-hard sports design. 2. DIT engine with equal length headers 3. 350hp stock 4. Decrease cabin weight to make weight for a larger fuel capacity.
I'm highly considering buying a 2018 base model WRX or a higher trim one with the moonroof delete package, whenever those come out. But you're right, I would personally rather have a 15-17 STi than the new 2018s.
I have a 2015 WRX, and I'm thinking of getting an STi, just to get the rumble before is too late. For people like me, who love the rumble, and miss it on the WRX, this generation could provide that, to be last chance to get a Subaru that sounds special, distinctive.
Rumble aside, in 2030 damn near everything will be running on batteries alone. That extra 50 hp elsa is waiting on is more than likely going to come from an electric motor. Imagine if the Hawkeye was the last STI with a gasoline engine and you passed on an opportunity to own one...Even if it doesn't become a collector's item I've been waiting 10 years to own a new STI and I can finally afford one.. The time is now
Elsa as always great content. Do I like the 19's? They look pretty decent to me, but I am one to swap wheels anyways, so it's somewhat null to me personally. The brakes look awesome, and POP. The seats? I love them, but so similar. I am with you on it all! I think that it's a cool "change" but not a game changer. I think what is going to happen here, is a few more years of what we have now, and then BOOM it is going to be a game changer, bring the hatch back, more power, more engine, and kill the game.
I picked up a 17 STI a few weeks ago for my new daily driver because my EVO IX is just getting to ridiculous to drive daily. I don't sell cars I like to collect them so I'll keep this STI along with my EVO IX. If the new STI doesn't have 360hp/360tq I'm done with Subaru and going with the GTR.
So many people complaining about the old EJ motor. Think of this - if they put a FA motor in the 2020 model year STI, you will still be getting a 7 year old engine. I'm hoping for a new hybrid setup for the new STI.
Hiya bud....been following your channel for a while now....great vids all round 👍👍 I'm in the UK and currently drive a 2015 Fiesta ST with Mountune upgrade (the MP215). Due to your excellent reviews I'm seriously considering a WRX STI now as a more grown up sensible machine with more power....i am 45....so getting on a bit 😂😂 Just got to save up a little more then I'll be in the Scooby club!! Keep up the good work....and best wishes from the UK 👍
@ElsaSTI New ones about £30k over the pond here....high car tax too at £500 every 12 months....but hey that's the way it is!! Lucky I don't do mega mileage or there is no way I'd be able to consider one !!
I hope when they change the car they leave the unequal length headers. All they need to do is leave the displacement the same and switch it to DI. That should be good for at least another 50HP. Plus the 0-60 on the car is already right in there with it's competition. Another 50HP and it should be able to hit 60 in the low 4s. I do like the new wheels and Recaros though. :)
I feel like if you can't afford the tire prices for the new 19" rims, you can't really afford the $40,000 car they're attached to. Not trying to bash the review, but that just stood out to me. Although I would agree that the "price to maintain" on these cars is starting to be ridiculous for what they are.
I hate to say it, but I agree with you 👍 great job Subaru on your facelift model. But, I'll wait for the 2020 400hp+ model thanks. It will need to be 400hp in 2020 to be competitive with the RS, RS3 and AMG A45. Great video 😄
I agree, the WRX and STI need a horsepower boost to keep up with the rest of the high performance cars. My17 WRX has a big problem, the horsepower drops to ridiculously low levels when the temperature is above 85F - 90F degrees, I mean really HUGE decrease in HP. I'm not happy with that aspect of my car at all.
Not this much, I have had a 2001 WRX, a 2005 STi, and a 2010 WRX, none of those were as severe as this 2017 WRX. The 2017 seems to go down to like 75 to 100 horsepower, I mean REALLY slow, no acceleration at all, my 2000 one liter Chevy metro had 50 horsepower, so I can guess the range. There is something wrong with this engine compared to the others, I think the ECU is severely limiting the timing when it gets hot.
Yeah the 6 piston front brembos are cool ,but it may physically be bigger in size so aftermarket wheel options may be further compromised (as it is already with just having a big brake kit). I'm also not sure why the chose lime green as the color....... such a random color. Random question, what's your I drive setting for the most part?
I agree. I want an STI bad. However I will not upgrade my 17WRX until they change the motor. Until then im completely fine. The subtle upgrades in the 18STI are nice though. Hopefully 2020!
The main reason not to get a 2018 is that you already have the same friggin car lol. Why the hell would you waste your money when you just got this one recently? Otherwise the 2018 mostly has meaningful updates to the suspension, brakes, AWD system, and interior, so it's well worth it for someone who doesn't already have a new STI. It doesn't make sense for Subaru to make major powertrain changes for a midcycle refresh.
Yeah, 305 hp since the first STi came to the U.S. back in 2004. 14 years without a power increase for the STi. The new Camaro SS .comes with 455 hp and runs low 12s @ 116 mph (bone stock). It's time for Subaru to step up or get left behind
Yeah......2020 new STi engine with possibly more power means more money on the price probably reaching $50k. In Hawaii the Focus RS is $50k plus as well as the EVO Final Edition was $50k plus. Also the 2020 STi will say bye bye to the rumble STi is known for. BUT..........if the 2020 new engine puts out 400hp, 18in wheels, recaro seats, updated brakes, I might pull the trigger.
I totally agree, ill wait for the FA motor go into the new STI... We want the newest technology... ive thought about a WRX and swap in a STI trans....but I WONT...
I hope we get a motor with more power. In the UK there's a Cosworth (not sure spelled it right) STi that out puts 390 hp. I'd love to have something like that. I'd trade my 08 legacy GT for that.
Honestly I feel once the new FA comes out people gonna realize how good the EJ is and hate the new engine....it might not be as good. I think the FA20 sucks my opinion
of course your car is awesome, but enjoying a 2018 model for 3 years till 2021 is also awesome. anyways it all depends on the wealth of the person. the question is: what is your car will be worth at trade in time in 2021 compared to a 2018 model value at trade in time in 2021?
Hate to be the one to say it but they will not release an STi with more Horsepower under the WRX badge. In Rally for the open class production cup the cars have to be top out at 330hp. 330 even will be the highest they will go and the 257 is the biggest they will go with a motor. Sorry but it will be under a different badge if you want it to have more. You're better off hoping the BRZ STi will have 400hp like they rumored they made in the concept, though that will only be in the JDM and international model they won't release that in NA.
Dodged many bullets on the 15 WRX as far as recalls and was really considering getting an 18 STI, but I'm with you on waiting until at least 1 year of production on the new STI. Until then paying off these student loans and saving for a house so I can finally have a damn drive way to work on shit lol.
I'm getting close to paying off my Subaru and just want to modify the hell out of it when that happens. A STI with a new engine won't make me switch, know I'd miss this Subaru of mine.
Imma wait until they come with a new engine as well. Hopefully rumor is true that it’ll come in 2020. On the plus side, it’ll just be more time for me to save money for a good down payment and mods
Never giving up my ej.... but I would like to put the 6 piston calipers on up front... pretty sure they will fit with an 18” wheel...I haven’t researched this so I could be wrong but I am anxious to see what’s up
Great video man. Thanks! Just wondering your thoughts on the exterior look of this future iteration of the STI. Do you think it's going to maintain the same 15-18 look, or do you think it'll get another facelift? I personally am a fan of the older generation look. Just wanted to hear your opinion!
the second subaru releases the new motor STi, I'll be at the dealer trading my 17' STi in for one. Just hope it doesn't look like shit haha. Moooo powwwwaaaa please!!
My 2015 STI has over 400WHP and the sweet UEL rumble. If you want more horsepower you can get it if you have the guts and the cash to ditch your warranty. The direct injected FA engine runs out of fueling when upgraded significantly, as there are currently no aftermarket options for up-sizing the fuel injectors.
Mike Thompson there are tons of options for bigger injectors on the 2015 plus wrx, I'm at 520 wheel hp, dropped around 6k on aftermarket midsand rule the road for the most part. I modded day 1 so it will cost much more now but sti needs the new motor
I agree not compelling enough changes to trade in a 2016. As this is probably the last gen for rumble that may cause me to keep my 2016 until I die LOL. I daily my car but eventually I see it becoming my summer car (with some performance upgrades when I finally don't have to worry about voiding warranty) and then buy a new STI when they go to new platform (not the first year of it though). In another video I saw the 2018 has some changes related to clutch/gears, something that can change gear shifting dynamics, curious to see what that's all about. They finally made C light as DRL, that should have been a no brainier from the start. I wonder if the high beams are now LED also? So none of the 2018 STI's come with fogs now? That would be a bummer, I love the look of my 2016 with DRL halo fogs (and also C light accomplished via DRL harness). Overall I don't like the new front facaia design of the 2018 but maybe it will grow on me, who knows.
keep up the optimism, us 370z fans are giving up on hopes of a new model. same 3.7 V6 thats been around since '08. but not to worry, we get to look forward to a nismo sentra... yippee. smh
it is a fun car, don't get me wrong. but it's frustrating to see so many other cars breaking new barriers while all Nissan does is throw a badge and put some stripes on sedans and SUVs
I agree that coming from a 2016 STi, there aren't enough reasons to go to a 2018. However, coming from a Honda Civic LX as I did, the 2018 was a wonderful choice ;-) I do agree that the EJ motor is a bit dated and could use some more power from the factory. However, there's so much good aftermarket support for this motor that it doesn't take much to get it up and over stock Focus RS power and much more reliably so than a stock Focus RS motor is xD There's so much more to this car than it's HP rating anyway, and all these keyboard warriors who complain that it's too slow obviously haven't owned or driven one. I actually had a 2015 WRX prior to owning my Civic. It was Stage 2 and making over 300WHP, and I find even my Stock 18' STi is more fun to drive than my Stage 2 15' WRX was. It's not all about power, and even then the STi has decent power from the start and can be easily unleashed for much more.
So, what it is so bad about that engine that's been proven for years to be awesome? Have you experienced major problems with it? What if the new engine comes in with lots of bugs... If so, people are going to start whining for the EJ to come back with a better factory tuning... I don't know, I understand your point of view because you already have a nice Subaru and know its power, but for people like me first time Subaru owners the 2018 STI is just a great car. Mine is the Limited Edition in Pure Red and I love it... I'm not planning to modify it so far, and if so, I think that it'll only be a catback. Nice video men, but don't mislead people to think that the new 2018 is not a good car because it really is... Ohh and the 19" wheels really look badass...
Let's be real. You're not getting the 2018 sti because it is not the best financial and/or practical move for you. If you wanted a 2018, you've gotten it for what it has now upgrades wise.
Naw, just not worth it even with the equity I have in my '16. Wheels, brakes and Recaros are not worth it with the EJ257. Now if they debuted a twin scroll 2.5 DIT powerplant with 340-370 HP, that's another story entirely.
All I can talk about is the current platform. I don't know what they are planning to do with either motor when they finally put it on the global platform but here are my reasons for not wanting the current STI. The STI doesn't hit its peak torque until around 4200 rpm. The WRX gets its peak torque around 2000 rpm which is barely above idle resulting in easier and smoother acceleration. The slight gain in overall power that you get from the STI is not worth it's massive 5 mpg drop in fuel economy. For a car that costs 36 to 41K depending on the trim, The technology in the EJ motor is also severely dated. You will probably disagree, but I would love it if they dropped the turbo 4 and put a high output v6, especially given Subaru's abysmal reputation for head gasket issues due to high compression and the nature of the boxer motor.
+Sam Levin Ik guessing they'll never drop the 4 cylinder because squeezing in a six cylinder would be tricky as all hell for weight distribution and a lower center of gravity; hallmarks of the boxer 4 and what makes the WRX and STi Connor long from a handling standpoint.
Well how else can you add more power to that 2.0 without increasing already excessively high compression from a turbo 2.0? You have to increase the size of the motor.
ElsaSTI yeah Idky it became an option it's not like the cars aren't selling -.- only thing I can think of is brake vents ...and I want to see the electronic diff in action maybe it can distribute more power to the rear and be more like BMW or Porsche awd in that sense and still have the 50/50 option
Why are you doing a video comparing what is essentially the same car? You'd have rocks in your head to not get anything but the next gen. I checked out this video to see opinions/information to upgrade my previous gen MY14, I just had to wait til the Recaros got put back in and probably going to grab one this week (provided the numbers stack up which they should)
They said this new subaru is the new best performer Wrx sti....is it better in term of performance and handling compare to Spec C RA-R......the version 9 limited......sorry for asking.... just to have your opinion on this......
Looks to me like you were searching for reasons but for example you say the break update is not enough? For real? :D I dont agree with you in many points but maybe its a personal decision. When i see how high you pull the handbreak i just cry.
Aaron Melchers I think people like this dude are saying this stuff to justify the mistake they made and excuse they have for not being able to afford it or own one. The breaks alone are worth the price difference.
you dont need a new engine for 350 hp lol... you just need a downpipe and tune. Everyone over estimates how much nicer say a 330 hp motor would be. Give it a break man. Its a small displacement motor, you are never gonna get big power out of it in a production car, and if that is what you are looking for, I think you may be confused.
perhaps, but thats where gear ratios come into play. This car is not meant to be driven sub 3500 rpm and has the ratios to back that up. I would prefer to keep the UEL header sound anyway. You cant have a low end and a top end, pick one. I prefer strong mid range towards the top and that is where this car excels.
im confused, low gears as in ratio or low gears as in like 1st gear. Staying out of boost will use less fuel. Before spool this is just a low compression 4 cylinder.
You're still a little misinformed about the Focus RS. The all wheel drive system does not overheat. There is no rear differential. Anyways, nice car man. Keep up the videos.
+DJ Paranoia RS owners have reported those issues already, stating overheating was an issue after just 5-10 minutes in the track , not the claimed 30 minutes by Ford.
DJ Paranoia The Focus RS does have a rear differential or else how would it not only power, but torque vector across the rear axle. And yes the Ford focus RS does overheat it's drive line.
completely agree with you. i LOVE subaru, i always have but the EJ has been used since the early 90's :( its time for a?... FA25DIT? :) something with direct injection and a twin scroll that makes 350 would change the game for Subaru and i'm sure would take sales away from the new Ford Focus RS
Just put a deposit on 18 STI....now I'm getting my money back...mainly because i don't want to look like this guy...the way he looks at others when accelerating makes me want to kill myself for seeing it
I'm with you, I won't be trading in my STI anytime soon. To add to your points personally I really don't like the new front fascia, it looks very cheap to me and too much plastic. Plus I personally I would love to see a more race inspired seats, I enjoy my seats not but the STI should have something a little more race car.
Yeah, at first I liked it in the promo photos- then I saw more and more photos and it looks terrible. I guarantee the aftermarket will be addressing those real quick!
Don't forget to give the video a "thumbs up" -- It helps me out tremendously! 💯
I just bought a 2017 STi yesterday, I love your videos.
Welcome to the club!
ElsaSTI I have the 2015 launch edition. And I feel the same I'm keeping it till they change the engine hopefully 2020. I'm just worried when then new engine comes out its going to drop the value on our cars.
+ak15 ar47 I think it'll actually increase demand for the rumble.
ElsaSTI lol, you probably not getting a new sti because you want that 2018 Kia Stinger GT with twin turbo RWD, AWD drivetrain. Or the 2018 Hyundai G80 sport Twin turbo, with same drivetrain opitions as the stinger.
Ill tell you why Im not buying a 2018 STI.
Because I cant afford one lol.
start by changing ur stupid avatar.
Im not gonna buy 2018 STI coz i got no money
19' Inch wheels may be because the bigger brake calipers
it is
Honestly the EJ 257 is the reason I want an STi so badly.
ElsaSTI naw I'm not worried about the extra 5hp I want the rumble
It just sounds like piss with any kind of exhaust, my SRT4 sounded better for crying out loud.
i need a car im not waiting till 2020
Eh man, Some valid points I think pretty much everyone's in the same situation wanting an updated Engine for the STI from the EJ.. mehhhh.. Loving my WRX :D
The EJ is legendary, but Subaru has to step it up with all the stiff competition from Ford, VW and others.
Life is short, and I can always buy another car - but you can’t fix regret for not buying what was available.
happy with my 04 sti
The '04 is why I have an STi in the first place.
C Wood one of my fav years
Can't beat the original GC8 1995 Sti-RA. The rawness, lightweight and 'feel' is still the benchmark of what the STI was all about
Fav comment of the day
ElsaSTI we have alot in common bro
I will definitely buy a 2018 STI because I want to se you salivate when it screams on the streets, And NO, I won't subscribe
you wont be screaming...... relax dbag.
I am not buying another STI until the hatch comes back. Full stop.
+Bryan Boru When the hatch comes back it's going to be a hot, hot item.
Bryan Boru why did they stop the hatch?
Bryan Boru the hatch is the most ugly impreza so far IMO Hawkeye looks the best
HIM7597 I have no idea. No good excuse in my views.
Bryan Boru i agree
You are right about the 19 inch wheels, at first i thought it did not suit the car. But after owning my 2018 i can say it will defiantly grow on you now the 2015-17 models look weird to me.
Totally agree, in 2012 I bought a WRX. Last month I traded it in on a 2017 STI. When 36 month lease is up, I'll be ready for the new and improved (power) sti. And I would mind a paddle shift auto if properly done.
just got one ,2018 STI and loving it ,in red
I agree. I have had a 2005, a 2010, and now, a 2015 which, I use for my daily driver. It needs an better trans, better brakes, and yes, definitely more power. I also like the rumble ( I have the sport exhaust system), but I will give some of that for another 50 horse power under warranty.
Agreed ! Waiting for the 2021 release. The next redesign will come with the new power-plant.
This aged well
ElsaSTI is one of my favorite channels, I agree with all of your points.
+Tim Irizarry If you're new to the game the 2018 is a great choice.
I too bought a Rs in february & absolutely love the car. I also own a 05 sti which I'll never get rid of.
Blobsquad! 👍
2. DIT engine with equal length headers
3. 350hp stock
4. Decrease cabin weight to make weight for a larger fuel capacity.
+Yugo M48 8mm Mauser two and three are highly plausible.
+Guillermo Sanchez That is true. The last year of ELH could really be a collector car.
Agreed!
+Adam Beaver Sounds like a great plan, the STi is an it more expensive in the UK, isn't it?
@ElsaSTI New ones about £30k over the pond here....high car tax too at £500 every 12 months....but hey that's the way it is!! Lucky I don't do mega mileage or there is no way I'd be able to consider one !!
I hope when they change the car they leave the unequal length headers. All they need to do is leave the displacement the same and switch it to DI. That should be good for at least another 50HP. Plus the 0-60 on the car is already right in there with it's competition. Another 50HP and it should be able to hit 60 in the low 4s. I do like the new wheels and Recaros though. :)
Even if there is a new engine in sti with 400 bhp, I'm still not trading my 2016 STI, only because I do not want to have a big loan.
I have the same car 2016 sti white pearl limited edition and I totally agree with you. Good review!
Thanks man!
I feel like if you can't afford the tire prices for the new 19" rims, you can't really afford the $40,000 car they're attached to. Not trying to bash the review, but that just stood out to me. Although I would agree that the "price to maintain" on these cars is starting to be ridiculous for what they are.
The plus with the STi and the EJ is you can register it as a "classic car". Lower insurance and lower reg fees. :p
+1
I hate to say it, but I agree with you 👍 great job Subaru on your facelift model. But, I'll wait for the 2020 400hp+ model thanks. It will need to be 400hp in 2020 to be competitive with the RS, RS3 and AMG A45. Great video 😄
19s sucks for ride quality, if you have potholes in your area I'd take 18s but I guess the brembo doesn't fit on smaller rims
+Nixter_is_Nick That's normal; it's heat soak. You could rig up a IC sprayer to help lower temperatures.
+Mrlolibre I = Highway | Sport = city driving | Sport Sharp = KILL MODE!
I agree. I want an STI bad. However I will not upgrade my 17WRX until they change the motor. Until then im completely fine. The subtle upgrades in the 18STI are nice though. Hopefully 2020!
+Brian McClain Exactly, they're nice improvements, but not enough to force me to upgrade.
Though the STi is not designed for drag racing as a Camaro SS is intended.
+Robert Ocampo If the Focus RS can stay under $50k so can the STi, I think. They can't price themselves out of their market.
19" wheels do not equate to spinners. Sometimes 19s test better than 18s. It depends. But cost, yeah.
Just bought a 2018 sti. She will look nice next to my evo 8
I totally agree, ill wait for the FA motor go into the new STI... We want the newest technology... ive thought about a WRX and swap in a STI trans....but I WONT...
@2:11 the look you give a guy driving a mustang
2020 im still waiting for a new subaru motor...lol
I hope we get a motor with more power. In the UK there's a Cosworth (not sure spelled it right) STi that out puts 390 hp. I'd love to have something like that. I'd trade my 08 legacy GT for that.
Yeah, that Cosworth STi is MEAN! Oh pretty please, Subaru. PLEASE?!
Elie Nehme Subaru holds value. A friend just traded in his 2015 sti for 34k. He bought it for 37k.
i also got the 17sti a few months ago.I totally agree what you said.
+steven zhao Enjoy the '17 man! Glad to hear you agree.
Here is hoping they figure it out and give us what we need!
Dodged many bullets on the 15 WRX as far as recalls and was really considering getting an 18 STI, but I'm with you on waiting until at least 1 year of production on the new STI. Until then paying off these student loans and saving for a house so I can finally have a damn drive way to work on shit lol.
Enjoy what you got and wait for Subaru to snap necks with the next model. Stack chips in the mean time.
I'm getting close to paying off my Subaru and just want to modify the hell out of it when that happens. A STI with a new engine won't make me switch, know I'd miss this Subaru of mine.
+Nicolas R Oh man, a 350+ HP STi would make me switch. 😍
ElsaSTI bigger turbo 👍
I got big plans for my Subaru, brakes, suspension, bolt ons, E85, Carbon fiber and all kinds of other goodies.
Imma wait until they come with a new engine as well. Hopefully rumor is true that it’ll come in 2020. On the plus side, it’ll just be more time for me to save money for a good down payment and mods
im jus happy wit my 16 wrx base Man i FREKIN LOVE IT Idk
Never giving up my ej.... but I would like to put the 6 piston calipers on up front... pretty sure they will fit with an 18” wheel...I haven’t researched this so I could be wrong but I am anxious to see what’s up
Just saw the sti in person and I agree the 19s don’t look good at all on the sti stick to the 18
Great video man. Thanks! Just wondering your thoughts on the exterior look of this future iteration of the STI. Do you think it's going to maintain the same 15-18 look, or do you think it'll get another facelift? I personally am a fan of the older generation look. Just wanted to hear your opinion!
+Aaron Hinchman The WRX and STI are due for a redesign in 2020 or 2021. It's typically every 5-6 years.
the second subaru releases the new motor STi, I'll be at the dealer trading my 17' STi in for one.
Cool! That's interesting to know! Could you please post a link to the injectors that are available for the FA20?
Mike Thompson sorry dude, I run either and assume everyone else dies, more the pump vs injectors I'm dumb
e85 spellchecker got me
I agree not compelling enough changes to trade in a 2016.
+ChiSpire All little things, just not compelling enough.
yep agreed
ChiSpire I will not trade my 2016 STi unless it gets a new engine/ more power :)
keep up the optimism, us 370z fans are giving up on hopes of a new model. same 3.7 V6 thats been around since '08. but not to worry, we get to look forward to a nismo sentra... yippee. smh
+jcasti07 Damn bro, don't give it up hope. 😂
Maybe. The Z is still a fun car to drive on the highway. ...STi so much fun to drive in bad weather and crazy back-roads.
it is a fun car, don't get me wrong. but it's frustrating to see so many other cars breaking new barriers while all Nissan does is throw a badge and put some stripes on sedans and SUVs
I agree that coming from a 2016 STi, there aren't enough reasons to go to a 2018. However, coming from a Honda Civic LX as I did, the 2018 was a wonderful choice ;-)
I do agree that the EJ motor is a bit dated and could use some more power from the factory. However, there's so much good aftermarket support for this motor that it doesn't take much to get it up and over stock Focus RS power and much more reliably so than a stock Focus RS motor is xD
There's so much more to this car than it's HP rating anyway, and all these keyboard warriors who complain that it's too slow obviously haven't owned or driven one.
My thought exactly. It's time for Subaru to step it up.
I agree. With the upgrades added my 2016 is too vested to want the newer model. Yet have been considering the XT models for the dad van
I've test driven the Forester XT. Fun and practical.
More power is the only way I'll trade in my 2016 STi. I will miss the subie rumble if they decide to take it away
+HoeLeeFuQQ I'll take better performance over the rumble.
ElsaSTI yeah I think most of us will but it's just an extra :)
Better performance but it still has to sound nasty.
I won't get an STI but when they finally put the WRX on the global platform, I'll be getting that.
+Sam Levin Why not the STi?
I had an 05 sti and I wanted to buy the new ones but yeah they really need to put in a new engine, the perfect one would be the 2.0l
im also waiting until 2020 for the new sti
It'll be worth it!
@@ThatWhiteTesla oof
Only reason I'd go for it is for a brand new engine and recaros but the stupid fog flights 😬
You know the aftermarket is gonna have a replacement fog kit for that REAL quick!
I checked out this video to see opinions/information to upgrade my previous gen MY14, I just had to wait til the Recaros got put back in and probably going to grab one this week (provided the numbers stack up which they should)
the new one is gonna have 400 horsepower since its so easy to produce the energy. the problem is the price...
I will order 2018 STI I love it 👌🏽 beautiful car lock design and specially the wing
+Gladiator Bull What are you coming from?
U mean from where I come ?!
+Gladiator Bull What do you currently drive?
ElsaSTI mustang Shelby and land cruiser v8 . But I'm thinking about 2018 STI
I disagree with your points because I want a 2018 STI with a horsepower of INFINITY!
Matt Coffey :)
19's look horrible way to thin of a tire and to much rim 18's are the perfect size with a meaty tire to go along with it
Agreed! I thought it was just me.
Maybe a Nuclear-powered STI or a 2018 STI with Fuel-Cell power.
+Richard Joash Tan STi powered by l SpaceX. 😂😂😂😂
Love my 2015, won't upgrade until motor change. Even then, I am not sure.
+EastGateShut I hope Subaru comes through in the clutch with a great new motor to build off of! COME ON SUBARU!!!
Is it me...or are people forgetting about the S207???
I haven't forgotten about the S207.
Moreso the comments that the FA hasnt been tested for STI specs. Lol
Wait for 2022 model
They said this new subaru is the new best performer Wrx sti....is it better in term of performance and handling compare to Spec C RA-R......the version 9 limited......sorry for asking.... just to have your opinion on this......
Doesn't that screen impair your vision? Seems tough to drive aggresive like that.
Or just buy 18 inch wheels?
Looks to me like you were searching for reasons but for example you say the break update is not enough? For real? :D
I dont agree with you in many points but maybe its a personal decision.
Getting a twin-scroll turbo setup on the STi would be worth it alone.
perhaps, but thats where gear ratios come into play. This car is not meant to be driven sub 3500 rpm and has the ratios to back that up. I would prefer to keep the UEL header sound anyway. You cant have a low end and a top end, pick one. I prefer strong mid range towards the top and that is where this car excels.
Interesting. I noticed my gas mileage improved once I started driving my STi at rpms in the low 3000s, even in the lower gears.
im confused, low gears as in ratio or low gears as in like 1st gear.
And yes the Ford focus RS does overheat it's drive line.
i feel like the 2020 new engine is still goingnto be the ej257 just a few part like no more timining belt, now timining chain and ect ect....
+msk nuked I can't see that. They need a new engine given the competition their getting from Luther manufacturers.
ElsaSTI they do need a new platform I igree with you and everybody who a fan of STI abd evo. I was just to high and those were my thought for the EJ.
So you're waiting till 2021/2022?
2023
Happy with my my99gc8 135 thou on the clock savn 4 a billet block 1000hp
completely agree with you. i LOVE subaru, i always have but the EJ has been used since the early 90's :( its time for a?... FA25DIT? :) something with direct injection and a twin scroll that makes 350 would change the game for Subaru and i'm sure would take sales away from the new Ford Focus RS
Aka wait until the 2021 year model because the 2020 is more than likely the engine change year
Yeah, that's about right.
It sounds like it makes less internal noise
Yes, more sound deadening has been added and improved seals around the doors.
I guarantee the aftermarket will be addressing those real quick!
almost 100% agree
Elsa, when are you gettin your RS?
