Triggering the secret phase on the stage 5 boss is a great trick. I had come across it inadvertently, but it seemed too touchy to set up and I didn't see the practical value in it. But watching this video prompted me to go back and try, and I got the hang of it pretty quickly. It completely skips the brutal phase with the rotating guns -- I used to 'milk' the guns, destroying one at a time back and forth, slowly damaging the boss, just so I wouldn't have to waste a bomb when failing to dodge both guns firing at once. But triggering the secret phase is safer (and more fun).

Not quite. The best with the normal ships is a 11,834,181 score that I might try beating in the future, but I would probably have to switch to Bomb. It's the second best western score though!

This is my favorite gen 1 cave game. It's so fast paced.

Apparently there's a secret character when you input a code in the start screen after inserting a coin. Had no idea it existed either until now.
