I have been trying different Joycon alternatives to improve performance and comfort when playing my Nintendo Switch in handheld mode. In this video I will be looking at the few options that I have tried, and give you my overall opinions on what I prefer as my go-to controller for handheld play.
Joycon Controllers by Mayfan: www.amazon.com...
OVIO Switch Handheld Grip Controller (Dobe TNS-19252):
www.amazon.com...
Hori Split Pad Pro: www.amazon.com...
Don’t get the first alternative, I had them and I thought they were great but they developed drift really quickly .
Your gonna be big soon trust💯
Amazing review by the way, showing all the different joycons and explaining your personal experience, and not just customer reviews. Keep it up
Yeah he is
The vivefox joy con replacement controllers are pretty good. $48.99 on amazon. Same size as originals so they're compatable with nintendo accessories.
Great review...Mayfan seems better all around for retro and modern games.
Great breakdown exactly what I was looking for thanks man you rock.
thank you for the review, sir.
Really nice video dude I really enjoyed it and you got ur self a sub
Thank you for the comparation :)
I have a joycon like those and so far so good. I have been enjoying them in handheld but certain games they arent as good the split pad pro. I just like them more because its slightly smaller and feels like a handheld not a sega game gear.
My choice would be a dobe. When I play docked, I have an 8 bit do SN 30 pro+ (my favorite controller ever made - I can't see how it can be perfected outside of haptic feedback...).
But when I play handheld, I want something comfortable but not overly wide (the hori looks a bit ridiculous to me) and I want rumble and gyro.
I am most likely going to get the Hori Split Pad Pro. I tried the other controllers and the dead zone is terrible. Honestly the joycons aren't bad at all (I never had drift issues though). The dead zone is barely there on the sticks and it has buttons for the triggers which is far better than real triggers. The only issue is the thumb sticks have no travel.
Don't get the split pad pro. Has a zeroing issue where you get opposing directional inputs when your release the joystick. I'm returning mine simply because of this issue.
@@FGCTekken what would you recommend in place of the split pad pro?
@@anfbiagentwhosaheroforfun6018 I honestly wish I could answer that question. There is literally no alternative after I have returned mine. Everything else has bad reviews and the split pad was my last hope for a good controller.
I don't really upload videos but I will upload what I mean with the split pad so you can see for yourself and make a decision.
@@FGCTekken maybe you got a defective unit... Try using another uniy
@@heindiez I went to the store and got new ones and the problem still occurs. I got the refund for the product and just ordered a joycon repair kit with some new joysticks.
Nice review thank you so much
Amazing video appreciate it!
Have you tested the charging system on the dobe Tns 19252?
I was able to use the charging port without issue
@@TheDarKris thanks for the quick reply I don’t really like the look of the Hori joy cons but if you seriously think it feels better and I like playing shooter games so if you think those are better then I’ll get that instead
Thank u bro
how are the buttons on the Dobe compared to the Hori and joycons?
what kontrol freak thumbgrips are those? have you tried them on the 3rd party controllers? thanks!
Any drift on the DOBE gamepad?
I don't know why but I'm so tempted to subscribe you know I think you deserve it I'll sub
How's the drift on the Dobe one Kris?
I haven’t experienced drift with these
@@TheDarKris sorry I meant to ask about deadzone and not drift lol, is it noticeable?
Compared to the original Joycons there is more dead zone. I notice it in games that require me to aim with the sticks.

I’ve had the original Dobe grip controller for months now and I love it.
Does this second version work with the Skull & Co Bluetooth or no? Because the original doesn’t.
Side note with Astral Chain and Bayonetta 2 have had zero issues with control and aiming.
First place?????
You gotta blink sometimes man
Definitely one of the best reviews. Straight to the point and presented at a good pace.
Nice video man. When I got my switch I took the joy cons apart and put the internals in different cases, and the left case included a real dpad. The controllers you show seem like a much nicer alternative than the method I did.
Thanks man! Appreciate the support!
Super solid review. I hope anyone considering 1 of these 3 (like me!) watches this first. I'm going with the Dobe for the middleground it offers and I like the idea of the screen being cradled. Thanks for helping me decide!
So each has there pros and cons. Most features= least comfortable, done is in between and Hori is most comfortable but least features and most $$$. If only the Hori split pad pro had as much features as the red and blue one. That would had been a must buy for everyone.
your forgetting functionality.
hori split pad pro is literaly the only alternative that has ps4, xbox quality smooth precise moving thumbsticks.
Between Dobe and hori, which controller would you buy?
Hori is what I’m using now long term. The thumbsticks are just way more precise than any other 3rd party Joycon that I tried
Awesome video!!! I do have a question, with the second one, TNS-19252, is there any brick issue with the usb port that plugs in the system?
Thank you! I have not heard of the USB port bricking the system from my experience.
I have the original Dobe grip controller on the latest firmware. Still no problems after several months of use, and charging is the same as well.
11.0 still no problems
This is the perfect review for (the best) joycon alternatives. Im really torn between the split pad and the Dobe.
I really like the split pad but the lack of gyro and rumble is killing me (Im into immersion). I also like the Dobe, however Id love to have the assign buttons but it's not a deal breaker. What's your experience with the D pad and the sticks on the Dobe?
The sticks and D-Pad on the Dobe work just fine. I got one initially that had D-Pad issues but the one that I have now works well. The sticks aren’t perfect but they work well for most games.
Im on the same situation bro.... Let me know which on you end up buying... Im leaning towards the dobe because it has an option wo have its own carry casd
@@heindiez .... I ended up buying both 🤦🏿🤦🏿🤦🏿. I used the split pad up until the dobe controller came in. The only drawback with the dobe is that it's noticeably heavier. Buttons on the dobe like the dpad and + - capture home L3 and R3 are clicky as hell (Not annoying but kinda stiff on l3 and r3)
Oh and one more thing, I got big hands, which is why I was looking for a bigger joycon. I don't like the travel space between the left stick and the dpad. It's a bit tight but not anything too bad.
Im gonna resell the splitpads. If the dobe had the rear buttons I would've never even looked at the split pad.
Oh and the vibration kinda strong.
@@dripz167 Thanks.. I also think dobe controller looks way more cooler on the switch than the hori split pad pro... I just dont like the idea of it connected as a wired controller... By the way, have you seen the dobe TNS-19210?
@@heindiez Yesssss that's what I really want. It's perfect but I cant seem to find it
Ughhhh. I can't find the vivefox controller locally!! 😭 My second option is the dobe one but it's wired! It's so frustrating!
i dig your input you just need a better camera set up the mic is decent but that could use an update too as it would increase the breadth of your voice
The only thing I don't like about the Dobe controller is the detachable analog I wish they would have just made it just like the non-detachable one
I have the dobe one but I think that I want to get the hori split pad pro
I really appreciate the side-by-side comparison and honest review. I really felt like there was no need to even entertain the split pad because the dobe seem to compromise everything. But I would still leaning towards the split pad, I just needed a pushover on it. Thanks so much for the helpful review
I'd also love to see a comparison between the satisfye grip and hori split pad. And even cases they may fit in
thanks for the review man
brother how are the Dobe cons in splatoon
Watched a few switch joy con videos in a row and yours was the final to help me decide! Really appreciated holding them up clearly, one by one and side by side to give a good idea of each product.
Thanks for the information, all the best.
Which one did you buy and do you like them?
@@masse64 the OVIO one, it works really well. Currently playing Super Mario Galaxy and the grip is comfy and motion controls work great
@@ShaneMakesMovies Thanks for the answer! 😃
@@masse64 no problem bud, enjoy
How heavy is it as compared to like the horisplit pad or the Satisfye grip, is it comfatable for extended use(4hrs)
Which ones? The Dobe is probably slightly heavier but the other Joycons are lighter. For extended use I prefer the Dobe and the Hori controllers. I have not used the Satisfye grip
Is the dobe more similar in terms of the grip to the skull and co or the horisplit pad
Thanks for the review, Chris! I subscribed, look forward to more videos.
Thanks! And it's Kris :)
bro love your review. i have a CHONKER hand. xD
im ur 666 sub, swag
The video is great, you kinda look like someone is pointing a gun at you, though
To me the skull corp case is also a very good which you did not have
I wasn’t looking at cases in this video. I was looking at replacement joycons. That case sounds like it would be good if you intend on sticking with the standard joycons.
I stumbled across your vid while researching issues with he Hori split pad pro. Unfortunately my wife's left Hori pad quit working after 11 months of light use. It's not recognized at all by the switch. All she played was BOTW and animal crossing...
Maaaan why doesn’t the split pad pro have gyros?? How did it get Nintendo stamp of approval? I would get the dobe but those dead zones would annoy me to much
Thanks Bro
Hi, I do not speak English . I thank you if you answer me in the comment.
Which controller of those you have is the best and which is the worst? thanks
Really love the video man, you seem very honest and genuine. Keep up the good work!
Great content man, cant wait to see your channel grow! Keep up the good work!👍
man, you look like KD! great review btw.
Thank you so much for this review :) !
