Kelly Tarlton's Sea Life Aquarium (formerly Kelly Tarlton's Underwater World) is a public aquarium in Auckland, New Zealand, that was opened in 1985. Located at 23 Tamaki Drive, it was the brainchild of New Zealand marine archaeologist and diver Kelly Tarlton (1937-1985)
Kelly Tarlton was an extraordinary Kiwi
adventurer, diver and treasure hunter. He wanted to share his love of the ocean by giving the public the opportunity to delve beneath waves and view the wonders of the ocean from a diver’s perspective. His use of transparent acrylic tunnels to provide a truly immersive underwater experience was a world first and the perfect example of Kelly Tarlton as a passionate inventor, bursting kiwi ingenuity. Today, Sea Life Kelly Tarlton’s is home to 13 themed zones and over 2000 amazing marine creatures including sharks, penguins, sea turtles, stingrays, octopuses and more.
