This song’s always been low-key hard af. Its real hidden gem and has so much importance to Em’s career and shows his growth as a person to let go of the situation with his dad at the end, even though he had to get some savagery off his chest first.

Just for some background info: Skylar Grey produced this. Her first production on an Em album, though they have many collabs.
I think that's why Em said hearing the news was like a 47 yr old scab being ripped off. Em's dad walked out when he was a baby. His mom kept in touch with his dad's mom, and she and Em would visit her fairly often. His dad would call while Em was there but not want to talk to him. Em sent him letters when he was a teen and they all were returned unopened. Then when Em blew up his dad tried to get in touch but Em wanted nothing to do with him. So then his dad wrote an open letter in a newspaper saying he loved him deeply, and everyone had been lying to him, blah blah. If you know anything about Em, you know this only pissed him off more, cuz it added to his father's lack of character (he hated ppl deciding he was important just cuz he's famous, cuz obviously they don't care about Marshall, just Eminem).0
That must have enraged em even more. Em hates fake ppl that's why he is so controversial because he says shit how it is. He keeps it real.

His dad just passed recently before this album/song dropped ... Soo it was still fresh You can feel the pain in his voice when he does that last verse about his dad. "/ He's hurt that his dad was never around. Obviously. If he didn't care he wouldnt have said anything about that. And I'm sure it hurts him inside knowing he's gone. And they will never build a relationship, not that I think he wanted one at this point. And he also can never call him out for everything. Or like you said... Ask questions about other family. A half brother and sister who never seen me. Or even bothered to call me until they saw me on TV. I've met my dad a handful of times. He left before I was born. He got involved when I was really young. Then disappeared. Then my sister on.his side said all she wanted for he 13th birthday was to see me again. So we got in touch and I saw her. He told my mom he was going to sit across the road and watch me if that was ok. Told him just to come. W.e. And again. He disappears after that. Now I could give 2 shits. For a while I held a grudge. Didn't wanna see it talk to him. Now.. I could give two shits. Gotta thank my mom for being my mom and my dad

7:31 Em's had a really difficult childhood and his mom was... She was a single parent and had mental issues, and suffered from Munchausen. She used to drug Em's food, something he didnt know about until he was a lot older.
Em had to go through all those issues without any male role model to look up to, without a dad to protect him. He used to write letters tonhis dad that were labelled "return to sender" and his dad never spoke to him on calls. So yeah, it was a sore spot.
And then once Em is famous, his dad starts reaching out. Has an open letter in a newspaper about how much he dearly loves him, puts his baby pics on social media. Jeez, can't imagine what that must feel like.
Then you and Em got something in common.....anyone who Dad wasn't there.....can relate to this I feel

Aside from this bar heavy song which would makes this post too long hete is my interpretation of the song - eminem is leaving heaven, his "heaven" is the peace he made with his past. Now remember he explains at the start of the song " we are all going to hell now." He's telling you he is taking you with him to explore his past which is his personal hell, he first addresses all the haters and other rappers who have attacked him in the past. Than he addresses how he felt being alienated by both black and white people alike and had failure parents. Then the final verse he addresses his dad trying to get in touch with him only after Marshall had become famous and made millions, there are pictures of his dad looking all gitty and proud holding old baby pictures of him with Marshall as if he didn't just up and leave his son so many years ago. So he basically invited us all into his head and took us on a biblical journey of him facing his inner demons and him addressing each of them and him some how having the strength ability and wherewithal to pull through all of it and still making something decent out of his life crazy how he sticks to a theme in his songs and takes you on a journey and this isn't even a bar dissect lmao..

Never knew my.dad had a step dad my whole life since I was four now I am 43 he is still in my life and I love the man even today but I look at him different as a grown man and a dad myself, grew up in south philly and my dad was a hustler and at 15 see him getting money and he was making some money so at 16 I was out there now hustling for him selling pills to my friends to other ppl in the city and at 22 the cops were on him raiding our house all types of shit after that i got caught with some shit they hit me with a conspiracy to sell narcotics charge and i did 3.5 years on that but when i got caught all they kept asking bout was my pops two hrs in a room and maybe 7 questions bout me and I gave them nothing did my time came home but my that I am a father myself and my son 17 now, I would never give my son some work to hustle for me to his friends and shit, so now I,see him threw different eyes but when I was 15 he was the man in my eyes at 15 he had connections to ppl like joey m all I am going to say this was in 90s some ppl will know who that is some ain't but I got in places I shouldn't of been in like clubs at 17 when 21 and,older... Shit crazy thou see ppl one way one day and other day you,see threw different eyes
