Wow! Wang is no fluke for being a 3 times WTTC Single Champion. Wang's victory in 2010 over Zhang Jike is a testimony of his TT skills and mental toughness against a future champion. The year after this, Zhang won the WTTC Single. That really put Wang's victory into the perspective of how great a TT champion he is. I guess not until Ma Long came along, Wang was the GOAT of the 40mm ball era.
Watch Qatar open, ML was world 1# at that time and Wang still beat him and then beat zhang jk afterwards.
"powerful forehand + control" won "powerful backhand + forehand" in this match, however, powerful backhand has dominated the TT world in the recent years.

Forehand is still the dominant stroke. Backhand added more flavor to win extra points. I think a peak Wang Liqin is about the only one who is able to defeat a prime Ma Long in the 40mm ball era.
Spectacular play by both of them, it's a sign that they practise together.

Zhang Jike legend
For me, jhike was more impressive despite he lost coz being an underdog at that time playing against the experienced wall like Wang and totally surprised wang with quick attacks. even Wang was outplayed by jhike, only wang's experience brought him back to the game and won
What's so impressive?Wang Liqin was very vulnerable to players with good bh.He could almost never beat Wang Hao.
It just shows Wang Hao's mid distance heavy bh was more effective in his match up against fh dominant shakehand players like Wang Liqin and Ma Long.

He was a great player but had match up problems against players with good backhands.

Wang liqin often made serve mistakes. I wonder if he ever practiced or if it came naturally. Coincidentally a year later, wang made service errors in his match against Zhang Jike!!
