Acoustic piano: Nord first, Korg second, Yamaha third. Rhodes EP: Nord first, Korg second, Yamaha third. Organ: Nord first, Yamaha second, Korg third. Strings. Nord first, Korg second, Yamaha third. Brass, Nord first, Yamaha second, Korg third. This is all just personal preference I guess, but even though the Yamaha comes last in most of the categories, in my opinion, it still sounds pretty good, until you compare it to the Nord! I think the new Studiologic Numa Compact X SE piano could give them all a run for their money at well below half the price of the Nord!
I'm a Yamaha fan but Nord somehow makes their instruments sound "full" because of which others sound a bit thin in comparison. But if you heard each of these on their own, you wouldn't complain.
As a gigging keyboard player, I have a Modx8+ and Nautilus. I wouldn't buy an overpriced nord anything in all honesty. The korg and Yamaha have their own strengths and nobody hears exactly the same thing, in the same way. Personally the modx piano cuts through better live, but the korg organs seem better and strings are similar. Korg has the analogue edge and yamaha the more refined digital edge, as you'd expect.
The piano was Korg > Nord > Yamaha I'd say. The Nord sounded "nice", but the Korg sounded even more real. Maybe it was more about the reverb and EQ they have on that preset, the Korg had more "presence" and sounded less processed. I guess less is more sometimes. The Yamaha was the opposite of that. For EP, it was Nord > Korg > Yamaha (especially liked the tremolo of the Nord) For B3, Korg > Nord > Yamaha Strings Korg hands down > Yamaha > Nord
@@lumpichu interesting take. I had the same opinion for the most part. Especially the piano. I was pleasantly surprised by korg. What I didn’t include was korg’s initialized EP engine. It’s a very nice interface. I like it way more than the nord’s. If only it was bigger on the screen
I think that the best sound came from the Korg

@@andrewwelsh4968 ya. The price to feature ratio is very low. I too don’t understand the hype.
