- We'd like to ask for your help in an exciting new marketing campaign that we're launching, called "#ShareTheLex." It's a campaign that attracts more visitors to Lexington AND supports local businesses and the local community- all good things, right?
Why would we launch a tourism marketing campaign targeting people that already live here, you ask? Well, we've found that the #1 reason people travel is to visit family. The #3 reason people travel is to visit friends. So in activating our community to #ShareTheLex with their friends and family, we can be a major catalyst for Lexington tourism.
Lexington's biggest cheerleader should be its people, the ones who live and play here. No one knows our city like we do. So that's why we would love for you to become involved.
Here's what we're asking our community to do:
• Share Lexington on social media using the hashtag #ShareTheLex.
• Leave reviews for their favorite businesses on Yelp, Google, Urbanspoon, Facebook, TripAdvisor...anywhere they can. It helps our local businesses while also making it easier for our visitors find all of the best spots (including your business).
• We'll feature their/your content in promotional ads, social media and more (like on our social hub www.visitlex.com/guide/). Plus, we'll be giving away weekly prizes for the best posts, photos, and videos capturing the best of our city.

#1 Visiting relatives...true story, when I visit relatives in Lexington ( God bless them ), my wife and I usually have to go have a drink at a bar a day or so into the trip....we have met many others from out of town at bars, who are visiting relatives, too...you meet the nicest people from all over,in a bar in Lexington..that should be a promo spot

And by the way, I grew up there, love Lexington, but hate to see the sell out. It is becoming more and more non descript,because of development,traffic,strip malls, so if the goal of this video is to promote tourism and visiting, you better stick with the one that brought you to the dance.
Daniel Boone would shudder and go back to North Carolina if he saw the proposed greedy development of Centre Pointe ( or however DW spells it ) and the monstrosity of a mess just approved for Man 'O War and Nicholasville Road I propose #wrecklex as a more appropriate hashtag if city clowncil and developers don't slow down and act to preserve.
We could have had "we've got canopy tours" on that list?? But hipsters and doughnuts are crucial too. You know that same research showed the #1 activity for those friends and family report doing when they come to your great city is DRIVING AROUND in a car. It's a shame that those visitors are forbidden from seeing real life history and places like that creek your standing in. The video and concept are great sorry I'm a bit bitter.
