I know old school when I see it,well done, just starting my carrier on caulking and your video show me some tricks that will help me to impress my coworkers.
You wouldn’t be impressing Anyone in the real world of caulking with Anything that any of these sales reps is demonstrating. They need to just stick to selling the guns and accessories and stay far away from actual caulking Yikes
Just caulked your weep holes shut!.. Looks like an old curtain wall though. Could be a non weeping system. Well if it wasn't it is now!.. Nice caulk joint though.
The weep tubes were purposely covered. All the gaskets in the window system were cut back to install a silicone bead creating “rain screen” system known as “wet sealing.”
Caulking proper is extremely difficult to learn especially with all the confusion and complete lack of standards in the USA now Anyone who says it’s easy most likely is clueless to the reality of how fussy and critical caulkers and some inspectors are and probably actually really sucks at caulking but thinks they’re great like this guy in the videos His caulking is absolutely Brutal and completely unacceptable according to any real caulking company that I ever worked on
It does stick, but it is the angle and movement of the tooling that prevents excessive material from sticking to the tool and thus remaining in the joint where it belongs.
anyone have any tips on controlling the caulk when starting a new bead on an existing one like he does here .. a lot of the time i put down to much at first .. i guess its just a skill / control thing ?
@@chyeaOGKush well honestly thats kinda hard, even if i get a nice even bead, instead of just flat tooling i always even if it doesnt need it backtool it, then if it allows use a scraper blade to get the excess off the edge of the bead. If u cant use the scraper blade like on brick ur gonna have to tape the sides
You really have to work with an actual caulker and hope that maybe he teaches you. You cannot learn caulking by watching videos and especially not these disasters
You are very poetic, but it is true, in many cases silicone is a much better choice. The reason for this is that silicon is inorganic. Being such, the covalent bonds of silicone are stronger than UV, thus giving it a longer service life with warranties up to 20 years. On the other hand, polyurethane is organic, and susceptible to aging weathering, and of course, ultraviolet from the sun. This is why polyurethane in some parts of the country can fail in less than five years. So, consideration should be given as to whether a silicone can be used in place of a polyurethane.
Caulking correctly and with knives is the most difficult of all the specialty skills and takes way longer to learn than anything masonry and many other things. You just snip the end of the sausage with small wire cutter pliers!! That smacking the sausage over and over the top of your boots? Really? Alway tool the opposite way you ran your bead first . I have been a professional PCC for over 25 years . A bead that size with Dow is overkill . And where are the weeps in that curtain wall? @unitedprofessionalcaulking9038

Great quick video showing the basics. 👍🏻
it cleaned up a lot better than i thought it would. but why such a big bead with such a small joint??
Nice video, thanks for making it was very informative.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I will say your videos are very informative
He can’t run the gun load the gun or tool the joints by real caulkers standards

Why doesn't the caulk stick to your tooling tool?
It does stick, but it is the angle and movement of the tooling that prevents excessive material from sticking to the tool and thus remaining in the joint where it belongs.
Those wavy lines would've been on the punch list and you would've ended up wasting more time and money cutting it out just to reapply a skim coat.
I said the same thing. Not a straight line and what's with electric guns... Slow as hell.
Completely shitty caulking on multiple levels

If the material is as runny as the first one you can loud the gun without taking the tip off just suck it up with the cone on it like a water gun

Why not tape it ?
Taping is for highly visible and aesthetic areas were tooling is not sufficient.
