Jackie Chan is the greatest action star in cinema history...no other action star has come as close to death and defied it that many times for our entertainment....he's insane...literally...lol
Jackie Chan probably one if the best, risking himself in his own stunts, I'd say he deserves to be the best actor of all time. Just sad he is old now he's not in his prime no more....
The 80s was the best decade for HK action movies. The stuntmen were absolutely insane, and a lot of the great fighters from the "classic kung fu" era were still in great shape.
This is before all the cg and camera tricks. Every shot was dangerous as fuck and needed to done right in one shot. Ultra respect to Jackie and his stunt crew. They literally put their lives on the line for their art.
Chili Sauce This was before Jackie got his stunt crew. Or rather, this is the reason why he gets his stunt crew. Each of the stunts are real, and dangerous. Falling between escalator handrails, ONTO escalator steps, glass breaking... Even WITH padding and fake glass, those.hurt.like.hell. AND lets not forget about the NG shots during the filming. (The only stunt that is a one-time shot was Jackie's electrified pole slide, and he ended up with skinless palms [2nd degree burns], fractured bones, and other problems due to electric shocks) The hazardous levels of these stunts can be described using the phrase "buying one's life off" ( 收买人命) And the stunt team at that time was contracted, and even THEY think this is going too far. So rumor has it, that after this film, they are NOT working with Jackie again. And thus Jackie started his own stunt team out of necessity, and to experiment and establish stunt routines that can be done relatively more safely.
Jonathan K, they're not just a stunt crew, alot are REAL martial artists and know how to fall properly without being injured the girls not even a stunt double
There was a different stunt where he pulled it off fine one take, decided for a second and it failed hard. He fell and cracked his skull. Almost killed him right there with shards of bone in his brain. Armor of God is the movievif I'm not mistaken.
The film is widely known in China as the "glass story", a masterpiece in the history of action movies. I am glad that western audience finally get to see Jackie's early works which to be frank are much better than his Hollywood stuff.
@@cesarporras9255 Tom Cruise has always done different genres (ex: Rain Man, Jerry Maguire, Rock of Ages, etc...). Jackie only did action for several decades.
What makes this one of the very best action scenes ever is the emotional dimension to it, which you guys unfortunately did not quite get. It is not just amazing and fun stuntwork, but the whole build up througout the movie to this climax was perfectly set up. In the final seconds of the film Jackie is a broken hero who just doesn't care about his girlfriend, that suitcase or anything else anymore, he just wants to destroy. An unusual ending for this film, elevating it far beyond the status of a mere action scene.
This is what I love about Jackie Chan movies, his characters are obvious martial arts experts but other then that they are people who can't dodge everything and get hurt in fights with a bunch of dudes. It makes his characters way more relocatable and believable since they're not super heroes they're just heroes that you feel you could actually aspire to be.
I had a headache and i starting watching your videos and they made me feel better. I love these movies and their fight scenes and i never have someone to watch them with so i love watching your reactions, keep it up! Youve changed the world in some ways
You all people that just reacted to the police story video need to remember 1 thing, Police Story was made in an incredibly small budget, yes almost all the characters did their own stunt work with Jackie it's amazing how he took a small thing and made it big and memorable.
Little Fact: The end shot which was shown thrice is Jackie's most dangerous stunt ever(He has agreed it himself). He burnt all his fingers, broke few, nails got ripped, got electrocuted, got his pelvis dislocated and i think we fractured many bones as well. JACKIE is the GOD of action movies n I love him!
Police Story is just the quintessence of JC's work. Not just the mall scene, the slums stunts, the bus chase. I am almost mad that you guys are laughing and having fun watching this, because this scene is the climax of a perfect action movie with a somehow tragic plot of a man fighting for his integrity.
of all the stunts, Jackie has done in his life. He's gone on record saying that that jump which you see through the light bulbs and stuff was probably the most frightening for him. Apparently, his hands were all burnt and full of cuts and I think he may have broken his tailbone when he hits the ground.. but well, Jackie just gets up and runs... Damn the man is a legend.
This film earned the nickname 'Glass Story' (in China I think) due to the amount of glass broken in this scene and in that final slide down the pole, Jackie burned the skin off the palms off his hands. Man has serious balls!

There's a lot of crazy shit about that final stunt. It was shot at night when the mall was closed, so he was doing another movie Heart of Dragon in the afternoon. There were so many cameras rolling the entire mall could hear it. They didn't have a battery and used the mall's power supply, which he feared could have killed him. He suffered second degree burns to his hands, and when he landed, was so full of adrenaline that he kept punching his co-star, then screamed like he'd scored a buzzer beater, x10. The ladies cried and hugged and kissed him, the men cried and hugged and kissed him. They went out to party late into the night and he couldn't move a finger the next day. His lifestyle back then was so batshit crazy it's like he was on cocaine all the time without the cocaine. If you guys ever go to Hong Kong, Wing On Plaza at Tsim Sha Tsui is still around and in good condition, though it's a pretty old mall with little business. It's surreal to be at the spot where he leaped.
I did actually go to the Wing-On Plaza when I had a holiday in Hong Kong in October 2015. I agree with you about how surreal it felt being there (not just when I was standing at the point where Jackie jumped from either; the whole experience of being in that Plaza gave me that feeling).
I felt totally awkward because the mall was pretty much empty, and me and my friend slowly went up to the top floor. I could feel people in the stores looking at us and going "Ah, these foreigner Jackie Chan fans again." XD
Well, *if* they think that, they think that. The way of looking at it is that you may not get the chance to go back to Hong Kong and on that basis you may regret it if you *don’t* go up there.
If I can recommend a Jackie fight scene or more, I recommend Jackie vs Benny the Jet in Meals on Wheels, him vs two guys in the Who Am I? film finale and his Drunken Master 2 final fight. Oh and his ladder fight scene in First Strike.
For western audiences it might not matter if you watch it the dubbed mandarin version BUT Cantonese is what Hong Kong is and since old school Hong Kong cinema is where jacky and of course Bruce begun it is definitely to be watched in the original Cantonese version.
it's nice to know there's others who appreciate old movies like this one...I'm a big Jackie chan fan since I was little....growing up I've seen almost all his movies...back then he didn't need stunt doubles b/c he did his own....but now the older he's gotten he's needed to use stunt doubles
Jackie has had an Awesome & Huge relationship with Mitsubishi they let him use a prototype futuristic sports style car in Armour of God & the car had like a pod vehicle inside. In Who Am I they gave him an Evo to use in the film & also rig it up for stunts etc. That’s why there’s a lot of Mitsubishi vehicles in his movies especially the 80s & 90s. I mean you can’t get better endorsement/advertisement for your product than have someone of Jackie Chan’s caliber & popularity

The only reason Jackie Chan's stunt scenes are repeated twice or thrice is because he literally injured himself doing that that stunt and was taken to the hospital. You will find scenes like these in most of his movies.
This fight scene was shot in the night while it was open during the day. The fake glass was sugar, the normal thickness wasn’t believable and Jackie ordered double of triple thickness so it looked real. The electrical pole was real, lighting it with lower power didn’t look impressive and Jackie went with full power..Hong Kong is +200v, not sure if it was lit to 110 or 220. The plot, from what I read, was made into Tango and Cash in America.
I remember seeing this when it came out (although not at the movies but on vhs). If you get a chance, see the outtakes and bloopers from this film - they're at the end of the movie 😀 - some of these stunts didn't, shall we say, go quite accordingly to plan and were pretty hazardous to the participants health!🤕
