  • This is a 1/11 scale model of the Czech Tatra 813 Kolos 8x8 truck (although the manufacturer of the model declares a scale of 1/12). The model was built from the Cross RC DC8 kit, which I bought in the Belgian MCM Racing shop:www.mcmracing.com/en/3-mcm-ra...
Including all the breaks, and there were a lot of them, it took me about 8 months to assemble the model.
The inspiration for such painting of the model was a photo of a real truck from the article: www.nztrucking.co.nz/wheels-o...
Tara trucks have a characteristic structure - a central load carrying backbone tube, independent swinging half-axles. They had been produced since 1967 to 1982. The Tatra 813 can tow trailers with a total weight of up to 100 tons. A noticeable characteristic of Tatra trucks is also the fact that the wheels of the unladen vehicle are arranged in the shape of the letter "V".
I also put on the model elements that are not available in the kit from the Cross RC manufacturer: winch, reversing light, front marker lights, three additional headlights in the front (one on the roof, two under the front windows), two warning lights on the roof, I added the rear direction indicators in half of the rear lamps.
Of course, I also modified the electrics, among other things, I separated the main headlights of the model into separately activated low beam and high beam. My wiring diagram is available at the link: drive.google.com/file/d/14YkL...
The original front suspension seemed too firm to me, so I replaced the springs of the auxiliary telescopic shock absorbers.

Congratulations on an amazing build project. The result is fantastic with a good choice of components, colours, accessories and realistic weathering. The wiring in particular looked especially complicated. Did everything go to plan so far?

Thank you, I'm glad to read such a comment.
I admit that at the very beginning I had a big problem - I primed the model with a primer, then painted it with two-component paint from an airbrush. When I thought the paint was dry after a day and lifted parts of the cargo box, the paint peeled off and sank under my fingers - it was hard only on the top. At the beginning I started to wash off the paint on the sides of the cargo box, I used a solvent, small wooden planks to remove the paint. At first everything was fine, but after a while the solvent turned out to be too strong and melted the plastic parts. There were deep scratches... I had to wait a long time for it all to dry. Later, I dry-wiped the paint with sandpaper, I had to fill the scratches. The plastic hooks of the tarpaulin lines melted completely (fortunately, there were more of them in the set than needed for the model). I had a lot of work to get the sides back to their original state.
Everything else was easy, the electrics look complicated, but for me it was easy ... although I will admit that in my haste I burned one receiver and the sound module by connecting the wires incorrectly. As a curiosity, I will add that I even made a 5-pin connector at the back of the truck, so that in the future it would be possible to connect a trailer with all working lights.
The most important thing, however, is that the model is already finished, now I think I will take a few months break in building more rc models 😁

@@kolekcjoner205-models Did I see you using the rust/red colour primer? Is this to show weathering if the body is scratched? Also, I see you were using Tamiya ABS cement. Is this a good product to use to bond the plastic parts together strongly? I didn't select an adhesive to use yet on the ABS parts for my PG4A kit.
Would you like a trailer like the one in the photo that you used for inspiration for your truck? I suppose most trailer kits of that style are 1:14 scale.

@@BlackSeaRC In fact, at that time, I only had a primer in this color, which probably does not affect the final result ... unless I scratch the model someday and the paint falls off somewhere. However, I doubt it, because it is painted with agricultural varnish and typical clear car varnish, so they are much stronger than spray paints or modeling paints.
I think that this Tamiya glue for ABS is very strong, I glued the whole model with it, it holds much better than those Tamiya glues with a green cap. You just have to be careful not to get it on the top part.
Maybe I'll build this trailer, it's a P50, it's available for 3D printing in 1/10 scale, so with a 1/11 scale model, it may eventually be.: cults3d.com/en/3d-model/various/trailer-p50-stl-model-1-10

@@kolekcjoner205-models Thanks for the information about paint and glue. Typically, I use Tamiya paints and other products whenever possible as they usually give good results for me.
This trailer is certainly authentic for use with the 813 but, as I'm sure you already appreciate, it will struggle on anything much more severe than dirt tracks. I have been involved with quite a few high-mobility vehicles in real life and it was always difficult to specify a trailer that did not significantly reduce the performance of the prime mover in off-road conditions.

Respekt, ein schönes Modell, mit vielen Detail und Kleinigkeiten, die es einfach wert sind. Dann schon wieder fast zu schade für den Dreck. Steht bei mir auch noch auf der to do Liste.

    Hi! Great video! Thanks!
I've just bought a DC8 kit and see you've replaced the motor? It looks like the Quicrun Pro which only comes as 2300kv is this correct? Your description states it's 1800kv? Is the control good with this setup?
Also AliExpress suggests the DS3235SG servos are upto 7.4v, are they ok on 8.4v?
    Many thanks!
    Dave

Hello! Thanks for nice comment 🙂
This is the 1800kV version as described, the 1200kV QuicRun would be even better, because such high revs are not needed in this model , but it was not available when I bought my engine.
The brush one from the set was too weak for slow driving, especially in second gear there was a lack of power , so I replaced it and everything seems to be OK. In first gear, the model drives most realistically, it never lacks power, but I do not use the automatic power regulation available in this engine, because then the model did not always drive smoothly. This is probably due to some play in the drive system, because it consists of many drive shafts.
The specific servos that I have in the model in the description on AliExpress were written that they could operate at a voltage of 8.4 V and with this voltage they reach a value of 35 kg. They are sufficient for regular driving, but if you want to drive (or ride - I don't know what the correct form is in this case) , for example, on rocks, it is better to install even stronger 45 kg servos, because it is a heavy model. This is a link to the servos I bought, I just don't know if the same offer will be displayed in your country: a.aliexpress.com/_EzGBQM5
      Regards!
